Falcoholics, I need your Input
Im from Gang Green Nation, and were doing a first round mock draft. I have a pretty good idea of what the Falcons are looking for, but I wanted to know what the favorites among the fanbase is.
I think defense should be a priority, at just about any position to be honest. Signing Robinson did fill a hole, but there are still holes in the back end.
Heres some of my favorites for the Falcons:
Corners - Kyle Wilson, Patrick Robinson, Devin McCourty come to mind. Earl Thomas might slip, but I doubt it.
Linebackers - McClain will be a longshot. But Witherspoon and Jerry Hughes have to be worth a look.
Defensive line - My former Jet, John Abarham, remains effective, but hes getting up in age. I would consider any of the large depth of defensive lineman available.
I also think you gotta seriously consider Mike Iupati, the guard, if hes on the board.
Lemme know what you think. No hard feelings from that Tony Gonzalez TD back in week 15 lol.

Personally, I'm a Witherspoon guy

Jerry Glanville
Spoon or Graham would be my preference

Witherspoon would be a good choice
The De from Michigan also looks like a possibility. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the went OL if a guy falls to us Dmitroff really likes
Weatherspoon!!
The spoonman is what we need at LB.

hughes?
Im here in dallas, tx close to TCU and the concensus is that jerry hughes is much more of an OLB in a 3-4 scheme, just like sergio kendle out of UT
ya you're right
According to most scout reports, they’ve been labeled as guys with more speed and better pass-rushing ability, and would probably be better fits in teams that run a 3-4.

Spoon.

For me, it comes down to who’s still there. I’m only a Weatherspoon guy b/c I don’t think the people I’d like to fall to us will…
Bryan Bulaga would be my first option, he is not top 10 pick in my book but for all the reasons I like him… well those are the reasons he’s rising. And yes, selfishly I want him to slide. Or, Bruce Campbell but I"m a dreamer and pre-combine it might of been possible.
Sean Weatherspoon if he’s there.
Mike Iupati if the other two aren’t available.
If those guys are gone, Jared Odrick and Everson Griffin
I’m not sold on Joe Haden, who is going to slide. I’m not sold on Pierre-Paul or Morgan at DE, there’s no proof they can handle elite tackles. Absolutely no saftey, period!
McClain could slide b/c of free agency, but I don’t know if a player of that caliber is enough of an upgrade for the Falcons to pull the trigger. Some say yes with out a doubt and others are more focused on our current needs (like me).
Either way our spot is both a blessing and a curse. If my top choices aren’t there, it would be awesome to slide back to late 1st and early 2nd. If we have to pick, we take the best player available at a position of need.
See, I like McClain a lot too
Even though he did play middle linebacker in college, he certainly could be converted into an OLB. But I don’t think he falls that far- the Giants will probably take him.
The thing about Weatherspoon is we could probably trade down in the 1st round and he could still be there if we picked at say 26 or 27. I don’t know who would want to move up, though…

Personally Graham.
But this couldnt be a better draft to be deep on defense.Ill be with Weatherspoon too.
Mike Iupati
I maintain we are goon on defense and i fear even the lose of one gaurd or tackle on offense. since Mike Iupati can play either position he is the best of all options if he is available. I wont be crushed if we get Graham or even Witherspoon
but I seem to be alone in my evaluation of how important our offensive line is.
I am with you. I think in order to give Matt Ryan the best chance of success, he needs to be surrounded by talent
ultimately defense wins championships, but for this draft , I think we need to continue to build around Matt Ryan and get a RT. Sam Baker likely will be our LT for the next 10 yrs, but wont ever make a pro-bowl, so to have a premier RT on the other side will protect our QB and allow him to take advantage of our talent at RB,WR, and TE.
If we draft Weatherspoon
I will personally make a giant paper mache (i think that’s spelled right) lightning cloud and a giant paper mache spoon and make sure I get on national TV with it.
Or some material. I’ll make a lightning cloud and a spoon out of something. And you guys better hold me to it if we draft him.
Someone email Comrade and tell him about the awesome he’ll be missing out on if we don’t draft Spoon.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I do not see us taking a 1st round OLB..
There is chance we’ll have a shot at Jason Pierre-Paul, a little bit better chance at Derrick Morgan, and pretty sure Dunlap is still there at 19. I can’t imagine us passing on a DE…
