Interesting read.
I don’t think we’ll make a big splash in the DB market.
Interesting that Cox brings up Plax. I never thought Plax’s situation was that bad (albeit I thought it was very dumb) because if he didn’t lie about what happened, you couldn’t recreate the situation again even if you tried.
At his age, he probably doesn’t have much left in the tank. However, we did give Joe Horn a shot. It’d be a slight risk, but his probable low cost would make it a pretty high return if we got anything out of him.
The potential of Finneran retiring means we’re going to need a 4th receiver. Weems is too small to really constitute that possession type #4 and he’d be used in more of a slot/speed role anyway.
I could go on and on about all the other positions, but that’s all for now. :p

I don't think he'd be a good fit
This is a team that doggedly goes young whenever it can, and Plaxico is older and has both legal and injury issues. I’ll take Hixon, thank you kindly.

Even if they go after an older FA
they’d go after someone like Tony Gonzalez – with proven track record in building positive atmosphere in the locker room…

agree
he was actually the only offensive player on our team last season who’d been 100% consistent. whenever he started he made an impact. I felt sorry for him for not getting a 1000th catch during that Bucs game – he was actually supposed to reach 1000 with a TD catch but they fouled on him for a PI…

I'm just mad that you guys won't believe me now
That I already had Dominek Hixon on my possible “wishlist” of FA’s. 25 yrs old, 6’2", decent return man, etc. Only problem is I’m pretty sure he’s a RFA, not unrestricted, and the Giants probably won’t let him go for nothing…
I have no interest in Plax (or TO, or Bryant).

good read
Plaxico is a good move. Low price and at worst could play backup or be a situational receiver. He could potentially be our #2 guy he’ll be playing with a hellova chip on his shoulder. But the defense is the most important area and its a scary situation. One wrong move and were f’d! peppers is the same age as abe was coming into this season when his numbers decreased. And he wants allota $$$. Then we need a solid corner. Drafting a corner has proved not to be that effective (tye hill). If we get one in free agency then wat will we do with our line? I’m still in denial about abe I hope he has 2 gud years left. But we definatly gotta make some moves. Osi???

I would love to see us get Aaron Kampman.
But I don’t really know what the Packers would want for him, and what we would be willing to pay. It certainly seems like he would be a much better fit here than in Green Bay, but I can’t say I’ve really watched him much. Has anyone else?
Kampman
He’s an unrestricted FA, so we wouldn’t have to give GB anything, just outbid other teams. And that’s one of the problems to me:
1) Money – he’s probably the #2 4-3 DE available behind Peppers (and maybe Vanden Bosch?), so he’ll probably get a huge contract from somebody, even though he’s coming off the ACL tear.
2) ACL – is he 100%?
3) Age – for all the talk of Abe slowing down, Kampman is only 1.5 years younger (and coming off the injury). There’s almost no chance he’s going to be worth the money in the 3rd or 4th year of his next contract.
He has been near the leaders the past 2-3 years not just in sacks, but QB Hits, Hurries/Pressures, and % of team plays for a DE; but I’m really starting to cool on the idea of signing him.
