2010 Falcons Gaining Respect?
Colin Cowherd was recently discussing the latest odds on the next Superbowl champion, and he made a couple of points. First, he said that the chances of the Saints repeating are not that likely due to their long list of free agents and the fact that everything was "in line" for them this season (i.e. in many regards, they were lucky). Second, he said that two teams to look out for were the Ravens and the Falcons. According to Cowherd, the Ravens are two or three offensive pieces away from being a really dangerous team, and the Falcons are two or three defensive pieces away from being really dangerous.
I'm not a HUGE Cowherd fan, but he's entertaining, and he's a prominent voice in the national media. I took it as a good sign that the Falcons are finally getting some national recognition after years and years of being ignored (often times for good reason).
Do you think that the Falcons will start to garner more attention from the national media?

I certainly hope not ...

Winning will do that
We have a lot of recognizable players, we’ve had two winning seasons in a row and we’re raising our profile. Hype kills, I agree, but a little more recognition never hurt nobody.

Agree with you both that hype kills (sometimes)...
but I’d love to see more stories about our team in the national media (i.e. MMQB). If we back it up, it’s huge bragging rights :)

there is a chance our team gets that spotlight:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/02/09/mmqb.te/index.html
And Peter King thinks there’s a chance we end up getting the first prime time game of the season. It’s a slim chance but still we’re in the discussion and that means something. However, I think it would not be the best thing to start the season @NO playing the defending champs no matter how good we get in the offseason.

The good side of a turd, maybe.
Well one potential upside to the other team winning the Superbowl and the fact that we are developing into a solid contender is that our divisional rivalry should gain some national spotlight and when we beat the champs this year, and we will win, we will get some freaking respect.

I hope this is the start of LOTS of positive press!
Tony Gonzalez did not come here because of the wee-documented suckage. He came here because there was documented progress. Great players will take less money to play for the Steelers.
I like being “under the radar,” but I’d rather see the Falcons be a great team that STOMPS teams in spite of people of their being prepared.
Sorry. Incensed.
