Off-Topic Thursday Thread

That's right, this it just a random discussion thread. As of 2 a.m. the Falcons hadn't gone out and signed Steve Bartkowski to a new contract or anything, so I decided to give all y'all a chance to talk....well, whatever you want. Within reason. If I come back and find this thread on fire, I'm going to be pissed.

So take it away. I understand there's some kind of football game this weekend? You might want to talk about that. Or, if you're like me, you're pretty excited about the new Gorillaz album dropping in about a month. The world is your oyster.

Go!

Them Crooked Vultures

They’re pretty good. Kind of an uber-band with Dave Grohl, I believe.

Dave Grohl as well as Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age and John Paul Jones from Led freaking Zepplelin. Yes, you should be excited about it.

Mostly rap and r&b, but I'll kick it old school (a little mo town and such) from time to time ...

Hip hop, alternative rock, instrumental stuff

Right now, I’ve been listening to the old Gorillaz albums to get caught up before Plastic Beach comes out, Grizzly Bear and Metric, and Aphex Twin when I’m writing. Instrumental stuff helps me relax.

My random thoughts/rhetorical questions

Has anyone seen Avatar? Is it all hype like the typical James Cameron movie or is it worth seeing? The word I hear is the big screen is the only way to see it. I’m too cheap for that…it really has to be extraordinary for me justify that.

Any other Losties out there? I have the season premiere DVR’d so I can watch it when I have time this weekend. I have a crush on Juliette so I hope she isn’t really dead.

What in holy Hades is the NCAA thinking with expanding the tourney to 96 teams? I for one hope they come to there senses and leave well enough alone.

SB prediction – not withstanding the Freeney situation, I still say Colts win pretty easily. 41 – 24

by zooker on Feb 4, 2010 11:17 AM EST reply actions

Avatar is a theatre must see because of its 3D effects

The movie is Pochantas + Dances with Wolves + Aliens. Not the best thing ever, but the technical feats they’ve reached with digital/CG stuff is pretty cool.

If you don’t give a damn about sweet graphics and cool 3D effects, don’t bother.

by Erihury on Feb 4, 2010 1:15 PM EST up reply actions

I saw it. non 3-D.

Still very cool visually. the movie itself I would say is just okay. It has a few chick flicky moents in it though.

It is good, but ...

don’t chomp down on popcorn/candy, it made me and my gf nausous (she yakked). Just a heads up, it’s probably better on an empty stomach. Not sure why, but just trust me on this one.

Disturbed

….is my favorite band. Their music is awesome.

I listen to just about everything. It depends on what I’m doing/how I’m feeling. I drive to techno sometimes, I even spend a little time with Mozart when I’m doing homework.

I love music. It’s a truly amazing art.
