Julius Peppers... a potential Falcon?
I'm hearing a lot of sports writers talk about Peppers and his interest to leave Carolian. Us being a team that lacks a solid pass rush, many sports writers are quickly adding Atlanta to Peppers' "Wanted Cities". Along with New York and Cleveland, Chris Mortensen suggested that Peppers goes to ATL.
What do you guys think? Would you be in favor of this pass rusher or are you not impressed with his work ethic (which many Panthers fans are calling him out on).
Personally, I wouldn't mind it at all. In the past two years Dimitroff has been here, he's made two big offensive signings in Michael Turner and then Tony Gonzalez (via trade). Peppers wouldn't be a bad "flashy" acquisition on our defense. With Abraham and Peppers, that should be a very good pass rushing core. That would allow us to bring along Lawrence Sidbury at the pace we want him to. We would still have a pass rushing rotation of Abraham, Peppers, Anderson, Biermann, and Sidbury.

For this to work, given our limited cap space
We’d have to start cutting or trading some dead weight immediately. We could free up a little space by getting rid of Chauncey Davis, Tye Hill, Erik Coleman and Jerious Norwood, but it’s hard to see how the team could afford to take Peppers on this off-season.

I think Peppers is a great player
but what if his production falls off or he gets hurt? Then you’re tied to a huge contract for a guy who’s not what he used to be. Its a big gamble…too big for me. I don’t like the idea.
I am okay with this
as long as the contract is structured in a way that makes sense. Pay him big up front and stagger off in subsequent years. To be honest, I don’t know if he fits in with the culture of the organization (takes plays off, lazy reputation). That just doesn’t sounds like a TD or Smitty player. However, ITIT (In Thomas I Trust).
Check my band out on iTunes. The band name is Legend Has It and the album is titled "Driven." Let me know what you think.
That kind of deal would make sense, if Peppers would agree to it
I do think Peppers is a great player and I’d be thrilled to have him. It’s just cost and fit concerns that make me hesitate a lot.

Just load his contract with incentives.
Get 10 sacks, you get this.
However, put some ludicrous number out there, like 30 sacks, and some RIDICULOUS amount of money and see how motivated we can get him.
I do agree he’s a great player, but the taking plays off concerns me.

i thought i read that the cap was off this year
all except for the top 8 teams….not us. But i may have miss remembered what i read.
unless they reach a deal by march
but your right about the uncapped for all the teams except the top 8, i also heard he wanted to go to a 3-4 defense or at least that’s what he said last year.
we had this debate last off season
I’d rather build young than build with proven inconsistency
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
He is tied for 4th
in amount of sacks in the last 5 yrs. Besides who would want to work for the Panthers. I say sell the farm and buy the horse.
"at least your roof only leaks when it rains."
Somehow I agree with both of you
2007 was his only “bad” year (2.5 sacks), so I wouldn’t be too worried about his production if he was somehow signed. What I would worry about is the fact that he would command a huge contract, and he is already 30 – meaning that he’d already be declining by the end of the contract (I’m sure he’d want at least 3-4 years). If we are able to get a DE in the 1st round this year, I think I’d prefer that option.

YES PLEASE!!!
I would love a tag team of abe and julius, but i would really prefer a combo of osi yumenyora and abe!!
sure why not?
he might take our contrcat offers, because it’s now obious that the kitty cats aren’t gonna offer him one and he’ll want payback for that
meh!
I wont believe it until I see it. Until then it is fantasy and speculation.

I'm sure they do
But you really don’t want to watch the ones with a bear market.

They could get
Peppers here if they wanted to without hendering the team.I’m not saying to pay him Haynesworth money but I think around 60 million for 4-5 years is worth a better chance at a championship. That will probably be beans in 2 years. To everyone who thinks this guy is on a decline better think again. When you can rush 4 a still get pressure/sacks, it’s a whole-nother ball game (i.e. Vikings) Everything else can get picked up in the draft.
Build through the draft. Guys like Peppers that command that kind of money are going to sap your resources for adding quality depth...
