Simple...

How does the fanbase over there feel about how this game will end up? Confident? Worried? I realize you always need to be somewhat confident week in and week out, but you understand what I’m asking.

by CubFan90 on Dec 20, 2010 3:55 PM EST reply actions

I think most of us know this is gonna be a close game decided by a few plays, and will give up tons of rushing yards to Turner.

But we always think we are gonna beat the Falcons.

What's the perception of the Falcons in those quarters?

Do you think we’re the luckiest bunch of motherluckers ever to luck things up on the national stage, or have you grudgingly come to respect us like Biff Tannen did for George McFly?

I'll say this

2010 Falcons remind me of the 2006 Saints, without the post Katrina backstory obviously. A team that is being rebuilt, the right way. Has a weak defense but makes up for it with a leading offense. Will lose NFC Championship Game.

by CoachOfEarl on Dec 20, 2010 6:40 PM EST up reply actions

We only lose the NFC champ if we're playing the eagles

And hopefully if this int our year it doesnt take another four as it did for yalls rebuilding prices. And our defense is odd, we shut teams down where they’re good, but let the perform well where they are not…and sometimes it just all comes together. We are second in ints and in turnover differential.

How does the fanbase over there feel about how this game will end up?Worried?

If the Saints defense doesn’t tighten up and allows over 200 yds rushing again. Sure, there’s an area of concern

This game apitomizes the best of the NFC South

On Prime Time TV, under the lights and will exceed all expectations. So now that you have HFA, will you lay down to save players and allow us the win to make it an interesting playoff race? Or, will you give us your best shot?

Why would we ever let the Saints win?

Very little would make us (at least me as a fan) happier than to watch the Falcons play 3 playoff games in the best indoor sports facility in the world (by that I mean the Georgia Dome) while the Saints (players and fans) are relegated to starting their offseason in 2 weeks.

First step to that is beating the Saints in a week.

I guess that settles it..................

It’s ON now cause I’m sure our team and fans feel like I do………Beat Atlanta at all cost and avenge “Chip Shot” as the man who lost the HFA by not beating you the first time around.

really?

The game in New Orleans wouldn’t even have gone to overtime if the ball had not bounced magically off the foot of a falcon who was going out of bounds. Or if the kicker hadn’t made a 40ish yard field goal to force overtime.

While the Saints have had a good year, they’re not truly a complete team. Shut down Brees (something the Falcons have had relative success doing since he signed with the Saints), the suddenly “explosive” saints offense becomes just another pedestrian offense. Is there a single player on the Falcons you can say that about? Turner’s stymied by the defense? Roddy and Ryan will make up for it. Defense keys up on Roddy? Ryan and Turner make up for it. Ryan having an off game? the entire team makes up for it. Admit it, the Saints lost not because of a fluke missed field goal but because of their one-dimensional offense and “not quite good enough” defense.

yeah, I think that's ok

I’m resigned to us getting what we get, and being ok with that. We had a chance to be in your position, but you guys beat us in September, so that’s done.

What I’d like to see is a strong finish for us, no matter how we end up in the standings. We beat 5 lesser opponents in a row to get to 10-3, and then close against 3 playoff-level teams (2 on the road). We dropped the Ravens game already, so winning the last 2 will help me feel better going into the playoffs, no matter if we’re NFC South champs or the 5 seed.

It's gonna be a great year.

This Sunday

How will the Saints lose??

A) Poor offensive showing, highlighted by a couple of Brent Grimes INT’s
B) Poor defense, Turner having at least 200 yds on the ground
C) Poor special teams, highlighted by an Eric Weems return TD and 3 missed field goals courtesy of Garret Hartley
D) All of the above

I kid, but really I’m curious- who are the Saints most worried about on the Falcons?

When I lived in Hilton Head, SC in 2005

I did some work on his house in Sea Pines. We replaced all the glass in the windows and built a $5000 mahogany stool that was designed like the little black and white cosco stools. He got it so his kid(maybe grandkid?) could look at the aquarium. The house is awesome. I never got to meet the man myself but my boss did. I also made some doors and windows for a guest ranch he had built in Montana.

How important is the running game to New Orleans' success this week?

We all know about Drew Brees and his ability to throw the ball. However I think Sean Payton might want to do what we did the first game, and that is keep our offense on the sidelines as spectators. Does that notion sound too far-fetched?

"Drive home safely, Atlanta wins!" - Wes Durham

by Craig Green on Dec 20, 2010 11:36 PM EST reply actions

According to Sean Payton, the only running back we have is Reggie and we can only throw screens to him.

Seriously speaking, pretty much every game of the past 2 years where we had a decent running game we won. So if Ivory comes back, I would love to see Pierre and Ivory in the backfield, it would be epic.

Just can't put your finger on it

the trouble with playing against Atlanta is that there isn’t just one thing tput under your thumb. Even when the offense has struggled the underrated defense has stood up. When the whole team needed a lift the previously laughable special teams pulls off a miracle. Atlanta has the biggest bunch of ‘low talent’ players in the league. An intercepting machine that isn’t even 5’10" taking balls away from players that are literally 8" taller than him. How? By JUMPING higher? WTF!
A running back that lost 25lbs in the off season and became MORE powerful.
A bunch of linemen who just about all weigh under 300lbs who can handle the whole game and out move their opponent.
A quarterback that everyone laughed at when drafted. Wide receivers who never had seasons like this year. An aging super-legend Tight End that apparently found a fountain of youth (maybe those Krispy Kremes on Ponce: ATL reference) and has just out catched the greatest wide receiver ever. 16 years and getting better? Impossible.

Name our offensive wr, qb and rb (White, Ryan, Turner) and think about the New Orleans Saints starters in the same position. Would anyone in NO wanted to trade them? Heck no. Here it is week 16 and STILL people are waiting for Atlanta to be what it was under Rankin Smith (previous life long owner) and not what it is under Blank.

by Paul Brian Richardson on Dec 21, 2010 3:15 PM EST reply actions

Its the "New England" philosophy I suppose

Dimitroff, in an interview, said he doesn’t look for talent, but the “right talent” that fits the system
I see parallels everywhere
Pats have guys like Woodhead and Welker and Deion Branch
We have guys like Weems, Grimes, Snelling, Finneran’s made some catches this year…

"My parents do a lot of things behind the scenes that go unnoticed"- Cam Newton, Heisman acceptance speech. No, this is not a joke.

by TurnerTheBurner on Dec 21, 2010 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

I just dont see us handling all those guys..........

We ought to just concede and save the plane ticket for Disney world. I will admit that Turner is on a rip and your Falcons are playing well. If you make the Super Bowl, next year your Falcons will see the same thing we are going thru. this season We have a better team than last year but just have not gotten it together yet this year. A lot has to do with injuries throughout the season and it will take a little time to get back on track but we should be getting close. It is very difficult to get to the Super Bowl so we had to have done something right last year. I will tell you that if we get out of the Georgia Dome with a win and the momentum, we could make a run on a repeat with out a doubt. Might be interesting to meet y’all again in the NFCCG. Talk about a Barn Burner. That would be one for the ages. Good luck and hope to talk to you soon with some real smack talk.

I don't see this as the final showdown

There is a very good chance we meet again in the playoffs. If our Saints get the 5th seed, and beat the NFC West Champs (again), and 3rd seed beats 6th seed, it’ll be #1 vs #5 and #2 vs #3.

I’m feeling confident that the Saints can get back to playing Saints football. We’re back in a dome (more of an oblate spheroid, but I digress), not obsessing about how tough the defense is. The Saints know they need a win. We’re playing an opponent we know well, and one that is very much like us, except one that has been lucky both staying healthy and winning turnover battles.

We were one chip shot from beating you guys, and we were the last team to beat you in your house, so there’s no reason that we can’t do it again on Monday.

"I hear the question, and I'm not going to answer it," Gregg Williams

by CoachOfEarl on Dec 22, 2010 12:56 PM EST reply actions

None of us will argue that you can beat us because you can

But PLEASE stop with the missed chip shot and the luck stuff. A great team makes its own luck. The turnovers stem from being in the right place at the right time and great coaching and preparation. If you want to go apples for apples about the chip shot, then you shouldn’t have gotten the ball on a punt that hit our player in the foot as he was running away, bounces into a Saints player’s hands, AND he toe taps the sideline. Game shouldn’t have gone to overtime. Yes, Heartley should have hit the FG, but the Saints could have stopped us or our kicker could have missed, but guess what? He didn’t. Please, lets keep the whole woulda, coulda, shoulda out of this or that luck crap. You guys were “lucky” with breaks last year if thats what you want to talk about. But we all think it will be a tough game on Monday night and I for one can’t wait

Checking out the Injury Report

does Ellis get the first practice off every week or is he legitimately injured? I know White, Abraham and Lofton get the Wednesday (or Thursday this week) practice off just to rest, is Ellis the same or is he actually at risk of not playing?

When I was at the Seahawks game I was being loud and energetic until the Falcons really started pounding them. Once it was 24-10, I calmed down and was respectful of everyone.

But before that, I was booing everything positive the seahawks did (and being shut out by the loudness of qwest field fans) and going nuts every time the Falcons did something positive.

Come on, Falcons- after the game in seattle, why not just live in a domed environment for the rest of the season? Gotta win 1st place in the NFC. Let's go Falcons!
