The Great Roster Breakdown is returning.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this, take a time machine back to 2008 and read all about how hilariously wrong I was about the great majority of the Falcons' linebackers, Curtis Lofton excluded. Essentially, I go through, break down the position, give a grade to players and then grade the overall strength of the position. Then, we go back and revisit those rankings following the draft and the early days of training camp.

There's just one catch this year. I want you to contribute. Exciting, right?

So here's how we're going to do this. Some combination of myself, tlozwarlock and a reader will review a position, go through players on the roster, give our collective opinions on said players and then average out a rough grade for the unit. I want everyone to volunteer for a position they'd like to write something up for, on a first-come, first-serve basis, though if we don't get enough willing suckers wonderful people we may be able to double up. This is your chance to make your voice heard on a position you feel very strongly about, and all you'll have to do is write up a few paragraphs twice over the next six months.

So join me, as we start up this new/old feature, and let's break the Atlanta Falcons down. Oh, and if you're especially gunshy about the comments (what've you got to hide?), e-mail me at davethefalconer@yahoo.com.

I'll express myself on our QBs, RBs, WRs, and/or DL.

Can’t really consistently see any other positions on TV except the OL, and they all run together because they’re fat (I give them a B-).

Also, hee hee hee hee:

Brooking will always be remembered as one of the classiest Falcons ever to take the field.

You know I'm in

My first thought is that I’d like to do Defensive Backs, because of some of the coverage charting I’ve done… but really, it doesn’t matter – if somebody else wants DB’s I can do whatever unit is unloved (I suspect that would probably be O-Line).

Dave!

TEs for me … that OK?

Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?

Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.

I love seeing a plan come together.

I'll do whatever is free.

II am not all that good at college analysis but whatever position needs evaluating I’ll be more than happy to accept.

You're good

Tloz and I will be, at the very least, alternating on each and every position, so there’s more than one perspective on each one. You’re welcome to OL!

Wait, wait wait wait wait wait!

Biermann was a linebacker? My brain just esploded, the gibbly bits melted, and came running from my ears.

I'm waiting for the play where Biermann lines up in the shotgun...

and completes a 40-yard pass to himself for a TD.

Biermann snaps… Biermann holds… Biermann kicks and… IT’S GOOD!

anyone think

Anyone think we need a nw offensive coordinator?

by DEMBIRDZCUZ! on Jan 20, 2010 9:19 PM EST via mobile reply actions

YES but

Only if someone better shows up. Dont want to take any gambles on anyone

by LORD91 on Jan 20, 2010 10:50 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I think there's a good argument to be made for that

And really, we’re due for an in-depth discussion about that. Stay tuned for next week!

Hey Dave

I’m not sure if this constitutes as a position, but I’ve always been fascinated with Kick Returners. Do you think it would be possible if I could do KR/PR? I don’t mind clumping that together with K/P to form “special teams” if that’s what it would take.

If you wouldn't mind taking the whole special teams unit, that would be fantastic

If not, KR/PR sounds good!

I don't mind at all :)

I’ll tackle the whole special teams unit, including coverage, blocking, and whatever else I can scrounge up.

Linebackers

I sent an email based upon my opinion of the linebacker positon starters.

"I'm used to catching six or seven balls a game, so this is definitely new to me. It's not like I'm complaining. I know I have to play my way onto the field, and then everything will fall in place." Roddy White

One a week, is what I'm thinking

Ten weeks should take us into the first week of April, and we’ll probably kick the second round into high gear in June. We’ll go down the list starting with QB, so I’ve asked brickcheney to get started on QBs.
