Falcons Rivalry Discussion: The Carolina Panthers
Call it morbid curiosity, but I'm wondering how you all feel about the Panthers.
Sure, you don't like them. I'm on board with that. But do you really hate them? Is that even possible given the length of time they've been around? I leave those answers to you, dear readers, as we'll be looking to discuss the Panthers, specific moments against them and everything that draws your invective before the big game on Sunday.
Go to it!

Here we go:
I meh at the Panthers. I respectfully but vehemently disagree with the Saints. I pass wind in the general direction of the Bucs.
You have opinions. Share them.

They've been around the NFL longer than I have...
… so I guess I’ve had as much time to work up a hatred of them as of any other team. And the first Falcons defeat I ever watched was when we lost to them at the start of last season, so I did hate them for a while. But really, I agree with tlozwarlock, they’re nowhere near as loathsome as the Bucs.
Also, if Delhomme wants to chuck the ball to our defense a few times this week and help us move to 2 and 0, I’m prepared to like the Panthers quite a lot.

I guess im a little weird
I pull for division opponents as long as we aren’t playing them. My perfect nfl season would have the Falcons at 19-0 superbowl champs with the saint bucs and panthers going 12-4. With us coming out on top of the best division in football

Meh
Hate is too strong a word to describe my feelings for any of our division opponents, at least these days. I mean, I don’t like them and I hope they all fall flat on their faces this year, but I just can’t work up a good lather over any of em anymore. Its not like I cant get violently angry at the thought of an opposing football team (take a look at me when UGA plays Auburn or Florida, for example), but the Saints, Bucs, and Panthers don’t qualify on that level. Back when the Bucs had Gruden and Sapp, yeah, I hated them, but only because those two were so damn hateable. Really, the NFL teams I hate are ones that have nothing to do with the Falcons. They each have their own special reason.
Patriots-They cheat. Therefore, I hate them.
Cowboys-People still talk about them like they are some unstoppable juggernaut when they haven’t won a playoff game since Atlanta hosted the Olympics. Therefore, I hate them.
Vikings-They employ Brett Favre. Therefore, I hate them.
I guess I take my NFL hatred on a case by case basis. It is a certainty that, eventually, I will fly into a blind rage at the sight of the logo of another NFC South team. But for now, I just want the Falcons to beat them for the sake of winning.

I've been a Falcons fan since 1976
…and I only have moderate dislike for our division rivals when we play them and pull for them when we don’t. However, I still have a general dislike for the 49ers after all these years but I can hate one team only – Dallas.

I dont hate them
I kind of have a minor irritation with them. Kind of like a bug bite or something. There is this girl who sits in my section though, she must hate them, She gave this one carloina fan a major arse whooping in the stands a couple seasons ago. This is a small chick, thin but obviously packs a good punch. The Carolina guy was smaller than me but not by much. It took 3 of us to pull her off of him. He left the game bruised and bloodied, by a chick… talk about havin a bad game day experience. Oh yeah we won the game too.

I hate the Saints the most of any NFC South team by far
Their fans are so annoying, thinking their team is so awesome, and with their “GEAUX SAINTS!”… ugh.
Charlotte is an awesome city and I like the people. I hate Tampa, but they suck so who cares?

one more thing RE: 3-4 defenses
watching the replay of the game against MIA, I noticed that we couldn’t run at all, yet when Ryan dropped back to pass he generally had all the time in the world.
Just an idea: throw all day against 3-4.

obviously i don't like the Panthers, but...
I hate the Bucs way more for some reason. I’m not sure why. But it’s tough to hate them too much this year because they are likely going to have an off year. I’ve generally found that the degree to which i hate one of our division opponents is directly related to how good they are. So if the Saints are our toughest opponent this year, i’ll probably hate them the most.
But if you combine my hatred for all our opponents, it still doesn’t rival how much I hate the Patriots. The cheating, the personalities on that team, the way they ran up the score on everyone a couple of years ago, and just something about their style of play… it goes on and on. I wouldn’t usually wish injury on anyone, but i make an exception for Tom Brady. I know, that’s terrible and wrong, but i literally find myself hoping he stays on the ground everytime he gets sacked. Randy Moss is just a repugnant human being, and i’m not sure there is a bigger jerk on the planet than Bill Belichek. Sorry, i could vent about how much I hate the Patriots for several pages. Watching them lose the Superbowl and waste their perfect season is still one of the highlights of my career as an NFL fan.

Please, please, please....
Jon Fox, please start Jake Delhomme.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.

Yep
9 Interceptions and 2 Fumbles in the last 22 possessions? No problem.

If Delhomme gets off to a bad start...
just how badly would he have to do, for Fox to put Feeley in at QB?
I’ve seen Feeley play a few fine individual games over the years. I kind of hope they leave Delhomme in, you never know what will happen when you put the new guy in off the bench (though he did just sign). Sometimes you get an offensive spark there.
Remember the Falcons playoff game when they were dominating Dallas, (literally) knocked out Staubach, and White came in and rallied the Cowboys for the win?

I tend to agree
I think two or three picks would be enough to force the issue.

It's definitely a mixed bag of disdain
Generally speaking, my ‘hatred’ of our division rivals usually only erupts when it involves the Falcons directly or indirectly like when we need them to lose a game or two so we can be division champs and get a first round bye or something similar. I’ve been following the Falcons since the 80’s so when I think about which teams I hate more it usually comes down to the 49’ers and the Cowboys, and more recently the Eagles.
But, when it does resort to divisional hatred, the chain of command typically goes Bucs, Panthers, then Saints. I’ve always thought those Bucs teams of the early 00’s played dirty, taking multiple cheap shots like we saw last year. The Panther hate stems more from the simple fact that I think we have always had a better team than they did and they benefited more from our internal issues than from actually beating us. The Saints simply haven’t been good enough for long enough for me to really hate on them.
All that said, on Sunday, I don’t care what your colors are, or what your lame logo is, you are dead to me. You all become ignorant fans who couldn’t tell the difference between a FG and a Safety. Your team is full of crap players who beat little babies, start fires in retirement communities, and your front office consists of a bunch of draters who use the game ‘Life’ to make business decisions. I hate you and want you to disappear, and if you wouldn’t mind, take your snotty kids with you and your loud mouthed wife. Your team might as well not even show up because from the moment the coin gets flipped, they will only be embarrassed.
After the final whistle, we’re cool. Unless we lost to you, then the above continues until about Tuesday, at which point the next scrub on the list gets my attention, then we’re cool.

well I hate em
Carolina fans just like NC State fans. They’re obnoxious whether they’re any good or down right terrible. Delusional really. Now, when they are good, they’re completely unbearble. If Delomme somehow comes around they’re going to be hard to take with those receivers, OL and defense
Tampa to me is sort of like that cousin you see from time to time that you have something in common in with (in my case FSU) but will make any excuse you can to get away from them. Excuse me, is that a gay pirate ship in your back yard? I need another drink.
The Saints are my second favorite NFL team – I always pull for them as long as they don’t look too good and their offense is scary. The Falcons and Saints shared the misery all the way from the beginning up until we joined the NFC South. Plus their fans are crazy.

Out of all our division rivals
I’m least inclined to hate the Panthers. I hate the Bucs with a passion bordering on insanity and I strongly dislike the Saints, as I always have. Not sure why, but I don’t get fired up about the Panthers unless we’re actually playing them.

I have to play nice
With the Saints – I married a Louisiana girl, and I have to stay in good standing with the in-laws. I’ve never really disliked them, though. They seemed more like the lovable losers. Never enough of a threat to cause “hate”.
I wouldn’t say I hate the Panthers, but I am generally aggrivated that they had so much success so soon after coming into the NFL. Playoffs in the second year? Super Bowl appearance in their 9th season? Their fans certainly haven’t had to pay their “dues”. I think Fox is a pretty good coach, so I’m hoping Delhomme sinks that ship, and they hire a guy that sets them back a few years…
Tampa Bay is weird. I really don’t think of them much at all. If I set my mind to think about them – yeah, I’d say I hate them the most (in the division). But usually I pretty much forget about them…
Really, my strongest feelings are for other teams: 49ers and Cowboys; and to a lesser degree, Redskins, Raiders, and Bengals.

Hate Em
Primarily because of my friends and family in the Carolinas who used to be Falcons fans and jumped on the Panthers bandwagon when they got their own team.
A totally valid decision on their parts, but hate em all the same.
Saints too. Especially hate Monday Night games in the SuperDome. Arrrrrrghhhh.

But...
Steve smith is due for a game because he was shut down and he usually handles our CB’s (sans D.Hall). Its cool though because as long as he’s contained, i have no fear we can keep the running game in check and our CB’s can finally start getting some interceptions, as long as Delhomme brings his A game HAHAHA!
