Trade R.White...
let me start off by saying that i love the guy and the way he plays but no is ever above the team and im starting already to see hints of T.O. from a guy who kinda just now came on in the NFL. And to sit out of camp and act childish about a contract dispute when you know your gonna get paid is just the wrong move, but it does open the door H.Douglas which i like though.
i wonder who we could get for him and what kinda draft picks if i was the GM id let him leave or find something just as good or better players like this will turn M.Ryan into T.Romo and we dont need that crap here!
7 games over 100yds last yr
10 games under 100yds if you count the playoffs and now he wants more than G.Jennings, lol hell id trade him for G.Jennings hell JORDY NELSON,LOL!
Mark my words his ego is gonna get him out of here quick.

I still think they'll sign him to an extension
I think that at the very least, they’ve got to bridge the gap between HD learning on the job for a couple years and his ascension into a starting role, and White as our best receiver makes far and away the most sense for that. The only way I’d be open to trading Roddy is if we got a real haul in return.
This could be a real big year for us, and White’s a weapon we need.

i understand that..
but alot goes into being a professional at all times and this team is young and always growing so to assume the chemistry and timing is the same is a mistake and why pay a guy top dollar when he could be the 3rd weapon on offense-TURNER,GONZO, and then WHITE.
I definitely see your point
And it hurts to have him out of camp, no doubt. If they can get this done in a week or so, though, and he gets back on the field and performs, I’m willing to let it slide. If he skips most of training camp, let’s see him earn that starting job back from Douglas, who’s going to be practicing in it as long as he’s gone.

He would be
The 2nd option on Offense (behind Turner), and the 1st option in the Passing Game – Tony G is not going to change that. And I can present some numbers to argue that Roddy is the #1 “Weapon” on offense:
Turner – 376 Carries – 1,710 Yards – 4.5 Yards per Carry – 48% “Success Rate” (a Football Outsiders stat)
White – 148 Targets – 1,383 Yards – 9.3 Yards per Target (not per Reception) – 59% Catch Rate

yea i
agree with you man white was considered a bust his first 2.5yrs into the league now he wants top dollar
There be crazy-talk in this here thread.
I think Atlanta and its fans have gotten too big for their britches.
We’ve had breakout seasons before, and yet no back-to-back winning seasons. And now people want to trade away a significant portion of that success because he avails himself of the only means of securing a contract comensurate with his value??
I’m more angry with the Franchise for not getting this deal done to get White into camp than I am at White for holding out.
Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish — a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow — to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested...Res ipsa loquitur. very much agreed....
the fanbase has been steadily changing since our recent success…
They should have been working out negotiations for this deal long before training camp. They didn’t have to give him the deal until they signed Jerry, but they could have at least had it worked out.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
I disagree
He HAS a deal. He is under contract – he owes it to the Falcons to be on the field practicing. When he wasn’t very good his first two seasons, you didn’t see him holding out trying to renegotiate the terms downward because he was overpaid…..
Yes,
But the team could’ve cut him and not been obligated to pay him any more than the Signing Bonus and any other “guaranteed” money…
Yes they could have....
but they didn’t. They stuck by him and helped develop him into the WR he is today. I would just prefer he say “Thanks…..I’m going to be even better this year and then sign a fat contract.”
Unless
He gets injured, and then won’t get a contract worth wiping with.
To top it off he could just as easily be traded or cut and I can’t imagine a Falcons fan alive screaming “But he had a contract, you’re supposed to stick with him, make sure he gets paid.”. I want you all to think about this “He’s obligated because of his contract” and then think about Ed Hartwell, and ponder the injustice of not fulfilling the agreement.
Pay Roddy his money. I hold the Falcons responsible, as a franchise, for not getting Roddy to camp. They had all season to work this out; this isn’t first we’ve known about needing a new deal for Roddy.

So is this what everyone should do?!?!?
Regardless of being under contract, anyone who has a great year should hold out the next for more money?!?! I see Michael Turner in camp. Isn’t he “worth more than he is making” given his performance last season?
I am also sick of hearing the injury argument. There are insurance policies that protect pro athletes against injuries just like there are policies that protect the employer teams.
No.
Great for one year? no. Great for 2 years while still on your rookie contract, maybe…
By the way, Turner made $16,003,840.00 last year (most total salary for a RB by ~$3.5M, including a $15M Signing Bonus), so it’s pretty hard to argue he was worth more than he made…
ok then
So if Turner has another great year, should he hold out next season for more money? I think players should honor their contracts. They want multi-year deals until they play well and then want to renegotiate. I realize it’s different from other sports because the $$ isn’t guaranteed, but they end up hurting the team, and often themselves. How many holdouts have you seen the end up injured?
Hey
that would make my singed Roddy White jersey worthless… No way this can happen. LOL! Kidding aside I hope they sign work a good deal for him because I dont want to put the ultra green HD in the starting lineup.

NOT CRAZY TALK
JUST SEEING THE T.O. SIGNS ALREADY.
I TRADE WHITE FOR BOLDIN AND BREASTON AND EXTEND BOTH OF THOSE GUYS CUZ AT LEAST THEY HANDLE THIER B.I. WITH CLASS.
last time I checked
Boldin was holding out for a trade in Arizona…
care to explain to me the difference?
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
are you sudgesting
OTAs are any less important than camp?
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
Cry babies!
Too many cry babies crying bout 9mil over 8mil. If they have 1 decent year they think that they can hold out for rediculous cash. 1 or 2 good years out of 4or 5 don’t cut it. If they won’t Moss,T.O.,Fitzgerald money then put up those touchdown numbers. Become the play maker that warrants that cash. Until then shut up get ur mils and most important PLAY BALL!!!
Southern Dirt.
I understand your sentiment but “cry babies” is awfully strong for someone who’s trying to secure their financial future. I mean, if I come to work every day and a great job every day for two years and then ask for a raise, does that make me a cry baby?
If they won’t Moss,T.O.,Fitzgerald money then put up those touchdown numbers.
It’s not about the numbers, it’s about talent. If Moss had been playing in Atlanta rather than New England the last few years his numbers wouldn’t be as impressive; by the same token if White had been in New England his numbers would probably look better.
honestly
all im saying is the team needs him he agreed to his current contract and now H.D. has went down i think hes really gonna try to up his dollars now he’s at the top of 2nd class wideouts the bottom of first class wideouts among the league honestly. matt ryan makes him look good, he was awful with vick even though both are to blame a top tier wideout gets his numbers no matter what, and im not talking about the numers in a check either.
a true team player would come through in a horrible situation that could threaten the TEAMS success not take advantage of it.
the moment H.D. went down he should have been in camp. now what are the rookies and younger players on the squad going to do now follow his footsteps?
if p.jerry gets 33tackles and 10 sacks does he holdout next year too?
if p.jerry gets 33tackles and 10 sacks does he holdout next year too?
That’s not really apples to apples given the remaining length of time on each player’s contract.
true its not
but i didnt hear roddy begging for a pay cut his 1st couple of years either.
Ok
I obviously still disagree with the notion of trading Roddy, but I’m beginning to get a little fed up. Especially after I read this that mentions Shawne Merriman and DeMarcus Ware are in the same situation (final year of their rookie contract), but not holding out. With Merriman I can understand the team wanting to make sure he’s fully healed before giving him a big extension. But Ware quite possibly could be the best defensive player (not just Linebacker) in the whole NFL. Yes, the team is working on his contract, but he’s only set to make $1.005 Million this year, and he’s not holding out… sign the friggin contract, Roddy!!
trade
send his @$$ to Cleveland for Braylon Edwards or Detroit for a first round pick in next year’s draft and sign Marvin Harrison. That’ll haunt him for the rest of his life. Play out your contract and the organization will work with u, you don’t have to have the new contract today, honor the one u already are bound to and quit dropping balls!!!
You say
“quit dropping balls” and want to trade him for Braylon Edwards?? Braylon quite possibly has the worst hands of any #1 WR in the NFL…
by orang3b on Aug 8, 2009 12:13 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
Maybe Detroit would like a seasoned #1...
I’d swap Johnson for White, maybe throw in a 5th rounder….
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.
Elayne Boosler
send his @$$ to Cleveland for Braylon Edwards or Detroit for a first round pick in next year’s draft and sign Marvin Harrison.
Why? There’s no chance any trade the Falcons make could make their team better this season and it’d be silly to hurt to team on principle. Plus Detroit’s going to hold that pick. Plus Marvin Harrison isn’t really that good anymore. Plus he’s got some serious legal issues.
yeah
Harrison may be on the way to prison for Murder 1. I dont think signing him would be very wise at this point. Do you?
