Falcon encounters
I just had an idea and thought I would throw it out there. I thought it would be kind of fun for people to post any encounters that they have had with Falcon players past or present. Were they cool to you, were they rude, etc... and how the encounter came about to begin with.
I have a couple I could share. Complete opposite ends of the spectrum. I will just share the good one to keep this a positive post for now.
I met Jeff Van Note at the Falcons draft day event a few years ago. The year Duckett was picked (argh!). I had a football with me. I approached Mr. Van Note and asked him to sign my ball. He looked at the ball and then started talking about the ball. I was confused at first and thought he was trying to tell me that he couldnt sign it if if was not an official NFL ball. What he was really doing was telling me how to determine if it were an official NFL football or not. We then talked about his time with the Falcons and how he thought they would do that year. We talked for a good 10 or 15 mins. Then someone came over and told him he had 5 mins before air time (he was doing the draft day thing for radio that day). He signed my ball and handed it back to me and apologized for having to walk away. Needless to say this left me with a very high opinion of Mr. Van Note.

I don’t have any encounters with Falcons to share, but I’d love to see what everyone has.

at a game once
had some real good seats and was with this girl who was gifted in the chest area, Demorrio Williams got a glimpse of those warlocks and called her down started spitting that game, i didn’t care he was a Falcon and i would gladly share with a dirty bird plus he’s a good sized human being. but yeah he got the digits she says she gave him the wrong number. this was the same girl i took to camp with me a couple of years ago and she was GREAT for getting autographs so i just sent her up there and to say the least they came to her. he’s not a falcon but i did try and pick a fight with david greene from UGA at a bar one night in athens to try and get him suspended or something(im a vols fan)
lmao
so your the guy I pulled off of him? wow. small world…

it was very stupid
i had been in athens all weekend and for any of you that have been there know that is no good. so later on that night im at a bar and in walks greene, what i failed to notice before i made my move was that the offensive line was with him(goes to show how drunk i was when you don’t notice 5 6’whatever and 300whatever guys walk in) lets just say it wasn’t cool getting your butt thrown out of a bar by a guy wearing a tuxedo(i have no clue why) but i ended waking up in somebodies bathtub the next morning, GOD BLESS ATHENS, GA!!!!!
Repeat story, but...
I met Jessie Tuggle many times growing up while I played rec ball. He was every kids hero back then and was extremely nice each and every time. He signed football cards, Falcons jerseys, hats, pictures, posters, whatever we had.
Bob Whitfield
He was/is good friends with a pal that I used to work with. Ultra cool and funny guy. He would stop by our work from time to time. He even invited me to a party over at his mom’s place right before the start of his last season. Like half the team was there along with some former Falcons.
He owns Patchwerk recording studio here in ATL that is a super popular in the r&b and hip hop scene. Lots of huge hits recorded there.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.
Mike Kenn
met him at a party once. He was an Atlanta City councilman at the time. He didn’t say much to me personally but did extend his big, meaty hand and shake (fortunately not too hard) while he worked the room like a pro. Most of the conversation was real estate, zoning and such. Not a word about football. Got the sense that he could not only crush every bone in body with his pinky, he was probably also the smartest guy in the room.
I also met Billy White Shoes a while back, but I dropped that info here
Kudos on the topic
Way back in the late 70s and early 80s when I played Pop Warner football for one of the local organizations, we would have a player come out for opening day ceremonies. We had Jeff Van Note one year, Mike Kenn and Jeff Yates another. All of them were really nice guys and were happy to sign autographs and take pictures with all the kids. I also remember Fulton Kuykendall coming down and last but not least – June Jones. As a backup QB no less (must have been a tough year for our organization if that is who they were able to get!). I think I got JJ to sign a football card – but I remember he was dressed like a total goof – yellow converse t-shirt and white bucket hat.
I also met White Shoes at a Hawks game once….he was one cool cat.
Finally, back when Van Note was doing a radio show with Chris Dimino, I was the x# caller to win 2 tickets to the Falcons game. The Falcons were bad so they said they wanted to meet the fan who was actually going to pick up the tickets and go to the game. I waited outside the booth for about 15 minutes until the next break, then went in and met them both. Very funny – they were both placing all kinds of bets on every game that day….
...
I went to a GA Force game, and shook Mike Smiths hand.
Finn goes to my grandmothers church, and one of the ministers there are some how associated to the falcons, I saw Michael Jenkins, which is weird cause I though he was one of the guys who only stays in GA for the season.
Jessie Tuggle - Twice!
1.) Tuggle graduated from my university (Valdosta State University, in Valdosta GA), the old weight room was named after him, and he just donated for a brand-new one. Anyways, in 2004 (my freshman year) we were playing in the Division-II semifinals, and I met him at Fazoli’s before the game. I only was there because my mom was eating and called to ask who #58 from the FaIcons was. When I asked her why, she said “a red Lamborghini with a Falcons plate with #58 on it just pulled into Fazoli’s”. I drove across town in 5 minutes to get the chance to shake his hand (after the meal, of course). Really nice (and physically imposing) guy, but he was in a rush because he was the Honorary Captain for the team and he was late, and didn’t want to miss the coin toss.
2.) Valdosta, GA competed (and won) last year’s Titletown contest on ESPN. When ESPN came to videotape our segment, Randall Godfrey (who played HS ball here) was our representative, but Jessie Tuggle drove down for the award ceremony and I got to shake his hand (again), although I didn’t get to chat or anything with him.
Sadly, I just realized I was too excited to get a picture or an autograph either time. :-(. I do have a picture of me and Wes Durham at a GT game, however.
