Excited
Only 3.5 hours to go! I’m definitely excited that football is back. I’m really looking forward to watching the rookies get some game time.

C'MON ITS BACK...almost
could have picked a better picture than the ‘V’ word…Turner torched them last year!
go hard or go home
Well..
I got over-the-dugout seats at the Braves this afternoon, ofcourse, same time the Falcons play.
Thank God for DVR.
I'll be in Mableton, getting pictures done...
At, of course, 4pm. Ugh, photographers have no semblance of good timing.

I am actually not going to complain
if the Lions do really well. I mean… I would like to see our first stringers dominate so I can get a very positive and dangerously over-optomistic evaluation of them, but the better the lions do, the better their chances of them upsetting the Saints in week 1 – and I kinda have a fettish for rookie QBs, so… go Stafford (even though he’ll be their second team QB this game… unless of course Owens or Middleton want to pick him off 3 times, that would be fine and dandy too)!
Either way this game goes… I’m excited. I’m just glad to see our guys on the field again.
I’m also predicting Grimes to be an elite punt returner… I think more than anything, I’m excited to see what he can do in that department.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
That's really nice of you
Did you see the Saints 1st Team D (without Porter or Greer at CB) last night? Vilma was a monster :)
The Easter Bunny is a savage...
haha, that wasn't meant for fragile ears
lol, I keed, I keed.
I have to root against my rival teams… I’m sure you can understand :-P
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
i agree
I’m a Matt Ryan fan all times unless he’s in the Saints’ way
I’m sure you will understand :]

I was hoping they would have given up on the reverse after last season
apparently Murlarkey still has faith in it… even if the rest of us don’t see why
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
yeah
defense read that and stacked the line

go grimes!
I’m rooting for you… unless you are a monster punt returner, then you should save your energy

way too many penalties

he handled it well
followed his blockers… probably could have cut left at the end there

nevermind on the cut left
replay showed he did all he could – good return

nice

Stafford looks like he's breathing pretty heavy
can’t stand still… I love rookie QBs
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
that pass was perfect...
sucks for stafford his receiver couldn’t catch
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
AGAIN on COLBERT!
Stafford is looking pretty solid… handled the pressure well, hit his receiver in the hands… that sucks for him and is definitely going to hurt his confidence throwing to a receiver that is going to be open a lot.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
yeah
stafford looked good. the receiver had room to run too..

apparently Stafford hasn't lost his confidence in the open receiver
he should be able to unseat Culpepper before the end of the season… if not before the start of it
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
oooor...
Colston is the only receiver that Stafford can see…

true
that is giving owens a work out. looks like he tightened up the coverage after that 29 yarder.

yeah, major props to Gilbert
gives me faith in the depth that we are supposed to be lacking in our LB corps

bah
not much owens could do about that TD pass. good throw by stafford

No wide receivers distinguishing themselves thus far

well
the line letting pressure dominate Redman and Redman’s inability to respond to that pressure isn’t really helping.

Yeah
Our line hasn’t looked like a group of geniuses right now.

major props to Stafford
he got smashed and nailed that throw… I can’t even hold Owens accountable for that, that was textbook.

Stafford looks better than decent thus far

better than culpepper ever did last year
I bet he starts day 1

Chandler Williams and Eric Weems
Couple of nice returns today. Return job probably should come down to one of them.

there is a lot more preseason to be played
and I still want to see what grimes can do in that position.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
I have much more faith
in our backup defense than our second team offense… I think we have much more consistant depth on defense. We don’t have very many capable replacements for offensive players.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
yep
he kept his eye on it all the way down

that was an ugly missed tackle
by James. Let’s leave his play for special teams.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
moore is injured
probably won’t see him during preseason unless he makes it back for the last game.
Jerry is drawing some attention, thanks to him Johnson (listed 3rd string DT) got penetration twice including a goal line stop.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
another backup LB with an interception
good job Winborn.
again, who said we have no depth at LB?
too bad the pick got called back.

Jerry is showing his rookie stripes against the run

Shockley looks eh
But I like what I’m seeing from the D.

and sidburry
the guy is lightning fast… he lacks technique for shedding blockers though. When he gets between guys, he’s flying, when they get their hands on him, he can’t get around them. Pretty much exactly what I expected. At least he isn’t disappointing. He should develop well over the next year.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
Weems is making quite the case for himself in this game
and he has game experience from last season… I bet he makes the roster.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
yep
he has shown some potential

takeaways from this game...
i know it’s just a meaningless preseason game, but a few thoughts…
1 – Matt Ryan is not going to have a sophomore slump. he looked sharp and the offensive starters showed you what you wanted to see. got a feeling Turner has another massive year
2 – some of the rookies looked great. Dimitroff seems to have had another good draft, at least based on what we know so far
3 – based on what happened in the 4th quarter (specifically that last Detroit drive), our defense gets TERRIBLE once you get past the second string. i know it was guys who were 3rd or 4th on the depth chart, but it would have been encouraging to stop the Detroit Lions scrubs. i’m thinking some of the early cuts may be based on the horrendous defense on the last drive. that was a joke.

random thoughts during the game....
The falcons seem to have a lot of decent defensive tackles….unlike last year
Trey Lewis looks really out of shape
Mike Peterson seems to be everywhere, which might be like having two middle linebackers on the field.
Eric Weems seems to have better field vision as a kick returner than Thomas Brown, but will there be room on the roster for him?
Thomas Brown’s playing time much higher than Snelling’s. Does this mean Snelling is being held out and is being considered over Brown for the #3 back? Or could it be that they are just evaluating Brown? I like both, but I don’t see either of them as a viable backup to michael turner. I also doubt whether Jerious Norwood could ever be considered a viable every down back. The contrast of blazing speed/size presents the same challenge as the Saints have with Reggie Bush.
DJ Shockley…I really wish DJ would break out, but he still seems to make a lot of the same mistakes as in college(inaccurate, risky throws). Is this because he’s working with the third team normally and has little protection, or is there no hope of him making it any further than #3.(or will he even make the cut this year?)
Is Kroy Biermann like 30-40 pounds bigger than last year?
Matt Stafford has an incredible arm. But does he suffer from the “uncatchable ball” syndrome that has plagued so many strong armed QB’s(Mike Vick for example)? The commentators blamed the receiver for missing three balls in a row, and that could be, but could it be that Stafford has no touch on the ball and the receivers don’t have time to respond? Could be a long season. Keep in mind Roddy White was blamed for dropping balls, until another QB started passing to him.
Snelling will keep a spot as the b/u FB over Hayes, he that Justin Griffith/Jacob Hestor/Ernest Graham combo back...
Might as well have a guy that can do both. Also, his special teams play is solid. However, if the season started today, I think Brown is the 3rd string RB…
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.
Elayne Boosler
And...
White still drops a high amount of balls.
"This is America, if we can’t self-righteously look down on others and blame them for our faults, the commies win."-----Cormican on Bleeding Green Nation w/r/t fans overreacting to the Eagles signing of Michael Vick
Oh yeah...one more thing
Chris Owens is a Raven-esque defensive machine. He is the next big thing.
OK, I’m done.
I wanna see him in coverage agaist some better WRs, but in run support, he's strong...

Elayne Boosler
his instincts seemed solid
very smart for a CB, he knew when it was safe to bite on a run play but wasn’t fooled by play action. When in doubt, he kept tight with his WR until he knew for sure it was time to attack the RB. He was also very fast… fast enough to make up for delaying on pursuing the RB.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
Listened / Watched the game in between errands.
Here’s my summation:
1st string Offense = pure gold. Keep them healthy!
1st string Defense = still seems suspect against the run but covered the pass a tiny bit better.
2nd string Offense = decent. Redman was ok. Receivers were fairly dependable.
2nd string Defense = Peria was monster against the run, it’s just a shame the rest of the second defensive squad wasn’t. But man, our rookies seem to be ball hawkers! Love to see that.
3rd string Offense = Shockey….needs to play better than that. Way better. Mistakes, too-high/overthrown balls. Not good. Thomas Brown, when he has an adequate hole, can get the job done. But he won’t find those kinda holes against 1st team defenses.
3rd string Defense = what third string defense? How does a third string QB run for forty yards? Explain that. TD, get those roster shears ready!
4th string QB = surprisingly better than I anticipated after Roam the Dome. JPW actually made some good passes. He seemed poised enough. Still some decision making issues though.
