Actually..
….Goodell said he would have a decision made BY week six as far as his standing. He could very well be allowed to play opening week if Goodell decides.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.
I haven't really questioned him (Roger) before ...
but I don’t agree with this decision. He’s done his time. Not sure if this is what is going on, but this smells like a deliberate effort to deter teams from signing him.
Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?
Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.
I think it's fair
it keeps him on a probational status with the league and gives him more time to prove that he can make good decisions… I’m pretty sure he’ll be throwing the football to someone well before week 6 (after the preseason, I mean).

I guess ...
but what’s the practical effect? I mean, if Goodell had just reinstated him completely today, and he did some messed up shaz in week 2, for example, wouldn’t he still be gone like Donkey Kong?
I honestly thought someone would at least give us a 6th or 7th rd pick for him, and that didn’t happen. So I’m not entirely sure that this whole “six week window” won’t hurt his chances of being signed, at least prior to the start of the season. In any case, he can always hold down the UFL w/ Losman (sp?) … someone will sign him eventually, once the injury bug manifests itself.

I'm sure he'll be on the field week one
but I do see what you are saying about how the whole “6 week window” might detour teams. I am sure this is more of a ploy by Goodell to cover his own ass than to inhibit Vick from getting signed.
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
So he'll be decided six weeks from now or the 6th week of the season?
Seems confusing. He should just say that he’s reinstated and can play, but if he does the slightest thing he’ll be suspended indefinitely or banned from the league.
I, for one, am really happy about this
Go ahead, start the uproar, but here’s my opinion
I love watching MV play football. I love the idea of seeing him have a team by the end of this week. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very glad he is no longer a Falcon, we are much better without him, but I truly believe he will have a lot less drama surrounding him then ol’ Favre as he makes his return to this league, and I do believe he is going to electrify the highlight reels in the first game he gets an opportunity to have the ball in his hands.
That being said, what he did was incredibly wrong, his actions can never be forgotten or overlooked, but the man has served his debt to society, and this is America. It is the one country in the world where you have the freedom to recreate your name after you make a shit load of mistakes like this guy has. I do doubt he has reformed very much, but I’m sure he’ll be thinking twice before he does anything stupid again… at least for a while anyways.
So, congrats to Michael Vick. Please just stay out of the NFC South, and I do look forward to seeing if he can jump back on the NFL bicycle and ride.

So ...
are you saying that what he did warrants the punishment?

with the exception of Jamie Duke's "$250,000,000" lost theory
the time he lost fit the crime… extending it beyond week one after he has been out of the sport for 2 years is a bit ridiculous (I’m agreeing with TO here, even though I’m sure his opinion doesn’t hold much credibility with the league).
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
I've gone on record multiple times
Saying that I think that now, with his prison sentence over, it’s time to let the guy back into the league and let him play, period. I think you can impose conditions and still let him suit up for Week 1, if the team that signs him thinks he’s ready.

He's the hot topic here in J-Ville
On the way home from work yesterday, it was all over the radio with tons of fans calling in talking about how the Jags community would embrace him and welcome him here. I think it would be a good fit and if it happens I’ll probably buy season tickets just so I can go watch him play.
+1
just saw J-ville stadium for my first time riding passenger on the way back from J-ville on Sunday.
probably wouldn’t buy season tickets, ‘cause that would mean I’d be missing Falcons games, but I’d make a point to go see a few games.

it was a friend's birthday
took her skydiving in st. mary’s on saturday (her first tandem) and then she wanted nothing but the beach and sushi on sunday. I’ll be living down there come december and will definitely plan a trip to watch a game with you sometime during the season, whether it be at a sports bar or after splitting the pay-per-view price.

You see...
If my name was Josh, I’d be very offended at the notion that everybody named Josh is a malicious, cruel person who makes fun of everyone.
I’m not named Josh, so whatever. Just joshin’ ya.
Jacksonville might as well.
Their WRs aren’t very good and they can run the ball. Couldn’t hurt…
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.
Elayne Boosler
Hmmmm
whoever he ends up with. I feel for them. Unless the guy has totally changed who he is. he isnt going to last long. As far as the rest goes, yeah he served his time and yeah he deserves another shot. I personally wont believe he has changed until he proves it. Just hearing that when he went to the meeting with RG that he showed up with a “large” entourage of people is discouraging to me. Probably the same people he hung with before all of this happened. I wish him and his new team luck though.

Just for the heck of it..
…we should start a pool as to where he will land. It wouldn’t surprise me if any of the following teams took a shot on him:
Rams: Bulger has barely survived the last couple of seasons & they need to get fans excited
49ers: Singletary seems to me the type of guy that would want to serve as a mentor and give him a chance
Jags: They have no depth, it’s a smaller market & Vick wouldn’t have to move very far. I don’t know that Maurice Jones Drew is ready to shoulder the load now that Fred Taylor is gone.
Patriots: I think Bellicheck is still pissed that the Dolphins made them look like idiots when they first busted out the Wildcat and wouldn’t put it past him to sign Vick for a year just shove his version of the Wildcat in the Dolphins face. He seems really egotistical to me that way.
Raiders: Al Davis LOVES speed and let’s face it, he has gone totally insane.
Bills: Ralph Wilson might be starting to realize that he is older than dirt and might want to do whatever he can to improve the team this year (hence the TO signing).
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.
Jags are the best fit for Vick
because of where he likes to play… but I don’t think he’ll have much say in the matter, he’ll go wherever they’ll accept him.
If he goes to the Patriots… I think he will shine the best and excel… I’d love to see that for the sake of damn good football, but would hate to see that because the Pats are damn good enough.
I could see him and TO single handedly destroying the Bills organization. That would be fun to watch.
Raiders seem so likely it isn’t even funny…
I think he’d be a good fit in Dallas… as much as I hate the cowboys. Having Witten as a solid TE for Vick’s short passes and taking the load off of the pre-Madona they have for a QB as is.
He’d look really good as a seahawk too, with hasselback needing the assistance in the backfield, but I don’t see that one happening either.

How bout the Vikes?
AP, Harvin, and Vick. That would be one offense I wouldn’t want to try defending.
Vikes
I think they have their hands full with the Favre situation although it would be a pretty ideal place for Vick to be if they don’t land Favre. That running game PLUS Vick? Damn.

Yeah but
if you are the Vikes, this gives you a much more solid option than Favre. You could just completely cut ties with that situation, lean on Sage for a few weeks while Vick gets up to speed in the system, then slowly implement Vick into the offense and watch all the missed tackles as you score 40+ on everybody. All hypothetical of course, haha, but still, all that speed at all three skill positions is pretty hard to contain.
screw favre, the vikes need vick
as long as his skills haven’t deteriorated too much

Romo
I bet Jerry Jones was salivating at the thought of bringing Vick in to help sell tickets in that huge new stadium but I don’t think it will ever happen. He got rid of TO because he wanted Romo to really step up and be a leader. Having the Vick show in town would mess with his head too much.
Seahawks? Aside from the obvious connections (Mora & Knapp) I don’t know that Jim Jr. is going to want to go down that road this early in his coaching tenure. Or maybe he would. New start on a new team why not bring in players you know, he obviously didn’t mind bringing in coaches he is familiar with.

what about...
ya’ll might think i’m crazy but the Texans. schaub has been anything but reliable and they’ve traded away Sage. andre j has proven that he can put up numbers no matter who is throwing the ball to him, and don’t forget owen daniels we all know how much vick likes to throw to TEs, add in slaton i think that would be an exciting team to watch.
Good call
I think the Texans aren’t out of the realm of possibilities. It’s pretty much do or die with the Texans this year. They have always been one of those teams that didn’t completely suck, but always seemed to miss the playoffs by a bit lately. I think the luster of “we are an expansion team” has worn off with fans as well.
I think with or without him they will surprise some people this year.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.
there are rumors
that Vick was in Washington last night according to yahoo! sports news
that would be a ridiculous fit… but not a surprising one…
know what you believe in and why you believe in it
Washington
Would be my guess, too.
Daniel Snyder tried to trade for Cutler. He tried to trade up to get Sanchez. He’s obviously not happy with Jason Campbell (even though he’s gotten better every year so far), and Todd Collins turns 38 this year. Snyder always tries to make a big splash in Free Agency (Albert Haynesworth is just the latest example), plus he seems to like players that are more sizzle than skill anyways…
Ironic
It’d be hilarious to see Michael Vick backing up Matt Schaub after Schaub did exactly that for Michael Vick three or four seasons.
Favre just announced that he is staying retired
It’s about time too. He has always been one of my favorite players to watch but over the past few years I have started to hate him. Vick is approaching that same level of hate. I’m not mad at him for what he did, I don’t think it was that big of a deal (I love dogs and I would never fight/kill them, just don’t think an animal should cost a man his career) I’m just sick of hearing about it. I wish him the best of luck getting his life back together, just wish ESPN would lay off of “story lines” like Favre and Vick and focus on people who are actually on a team and what the team is doing. I’m sure not everyone feels this way but when I turn on ESPN I want to hear about what happened in the days games not that a retired QB threw to highschool kids or that Vick got his ankle bracelet removed

Wow
This throws an interesting wrinkle in things. I would say that the Vikings are def. going to be on the Vick list. I don’t see why not. You have to believe that it’s not just a question of who will allow Vick to play for them, but we have to take into account where he actually wants to go. I say the Vikes are now at the top of Vicks’s list.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.
Yeah
I know I am joining the discussion late but meh I dont care. Vikes would be a nice fit. He could even teach TJ a few things, boost his confidence etc. Plus the Vikes sound very desperate, from the sounds of it the did anything and everything to get Farve to sign with them but he didn’t. Sounds like a possibility for disaster: Enter Michael Vick.
New Orleans Hornets: The most inconsistent team in the NBA.
The problem
With the Vikes is that Childress has that true short-passing West Coast Offense. kciV had abysmally bad numbers when trying to run the WCO. But if Childress was willing to change a little bit, they have the right pieces: good offensive line, very good running game, great deep threat in Bernard Berrian, an exciting all-purpose threat in Harvin, plus Sidney Rice was starting to come along last year…
FREE MIKE VICK!!!
I know he is free from the Feds. But he doesn’t seem to be free from the haters and the ill-informed individuals calling themselves human beings/fans. During this whole Vick ordeal, there have been more bashing of this player than any other player. Vick received more media coverage then Madoff! Madoff stole billions! BILLIONS! Destroyed lives and livelihoods! The federal prosecutor stated that he recommended a sentence of 6-9 mths MAX. But the judge choose 2 yrs. George W. Bush hated dog fighting so much that he decided NOT to make dogfighting, in and of itself, a federal crime a year before the Vick issue. That’s why the Feds pushed to change him with committing a criminal act across state lines. That was the only way they could slap Vick with a federal crime. Google everything I’ve written. It is true.
With that said, Vick should have been FULLY reinstated. Goodell has shown that he doesn’t have the New Sheriff In Town backbone he was once believed to have. Just as the person above said: Goodell is trying to cover his own behind. He’s trying to appease people/fans who don’t know anything about football and who are PERFECT in every way themselves. PERFECT people would never be able to understand nor forgive him. So I ask this question: Was what Vick did worse than cheating on your spouse and destroying your family? Neglecting/abusing your children? Clergy raping/taking advantage of kids? Or maybe killing or causing injury to a human? Should I go on?
I’m, in NO WAY, justifying his actions. If I was the #1 pick of the NFL (I say again the THE NFL) and received a $130 mil contract, I would not be fighting dogs! It’s just that I’m from down South (born and raised in Atlanta, GA) and dogfighting runs wild down here. I know individuals who many of you would call upstanding, role models who GAMBLE on dog fights. “Professional” people! The initial report that came out when this whole thing blew up stated that there were prominent business people who attended the dogfights that Vick alledgedly actively participated in (even though for 9 mths out of the year, football took all of his time). Who were these prominent people and why aren’t they being protested by PETA? Why is Vick the only person being crucified? Not Taylor who actually killed more dogs than Vick and got less time because he made a deal. Taylor ran the dog operation, not Vick. Vick was scoring TDs when most of these dogs were being killed! Come on PERFECT people! Give us non-PERFECT people a break over here. We are doing the best that we can! Honestly!
Many may not have known this, but there were a number of times that dog fighting was talked about OPENLY in the Falcons locker room (so the higher-ups KNEW about it). If you are a halfway decent businessman, than you know what is going on in your multi-billion dollar investment. I’m a former athlete myself so over the years, I’ve been able to meet people who are former players and those close to current players. One of our current D lineman had a run in with the law concerning dog fighting.
Leave Vick alone and let him get a job in his field, which pays pretty good and has nothing to do with dogfighting! And for the PERFECT people who have PERFECT lives pull the rap sheet for some of the politicans in OUR House of Representatives and tell me what you think! I’m all ears. As a matter of fact, why don’t all of the PERFECT, NON-MISTAKE MAKING people create their own country and that way they don’t have to deal with us NON-PERFECT people who seems to corrupt their PERFECT world! I’m sorry for not being PERFECT like some of the people who have commented negatively about Vick over the past couple of years. I truly am!!!
MIKE VICK-SUPER BOWL MVP!!!
BUT SORRY VICK, YOU’LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL OUR BIRDS WIN ONE FIRST! YES I SAID OUR BIRDS! VICK YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A DIRTY BIRD! YOU GAVE US HOPE AND YOU BEAT FAVRE IN LAMBEAU!
