Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

An Atlanta Falcon Opponent Discussion

Everyone has a team they love to hate. For some of you, though, that becomes a little more difficult when you remove division rivals from the equation. If there's one thing you know about me, it's that I enjoy making things more difficult. You can see where this is going.

For me, the team that is unlucky enough to be on the pointy end of my hatred is none other than the New England Patriots, and they have nobody to blame but their fans for that one. I've never liked them, but the spate of Super Bowl runs and the way they continue to win with perhaps one or two real receivers, no running backs and a complete lack of a secondary infuriates the hell out of me. I probably need thereapy.

With such a dearth of news in Falcon central, looking out a little broader is a fun exercise. Tell me who you hate outside of the NFC South and tell me why. Tell me for how long. Let me soak in that anger!

philly

i can’t root for any team from philly and the philly fans are the reason… i can’t remember if i disliked them before the braves played them in the playoffs a few years back or if that was the start… i heard stories of the fans throwing batteries and change and the relief pitchers and more tales over overall assholery ha… being a fan is one thing but to me they take it to a new level that i just cant stomach…

Speaking of smarmy fans...

Chicago Bears. You’d think a place with such a reputation for toughness would have tougher fans.

Alas, after a combination of bad coaching, weak defense, and a cool-as-a-cucumber QB stripped “their” win away with six seconds left, my illusions were destroyed. I’ve seen less crying in maternity wards. Bears fans said two things: some suggested that there was a conspiracy with the clock, others felt that ATL didn’t win the game, merely that CHI lost it. I feel like those are both insulting and disrespectful, and would make Mike Ditka choke on his own spittle while swearing at any player who told him the same thing.

Allow me to extend a hearty middle finger to the Chicago Bears fans. See you next Fall, I’ll be the drunk guy taking a dump in your cereal. God I hope Ryan eats that secondary alive.

So yeah, don’t like the Bears.

Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish — a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow — to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested...Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll.

Oh Dave.

I 100 percent agree with you on the Patriots. I hate them. The combination of Tom Brady and the fact that they just keep on winning pisses me off a great deal. But what tips me off the most is the fans. Now here in Australia there is a plethora of Pats fans who go for them just because of their success, not knowing anything but that they have a good QB and a team that constantly makes the playoffs.

It’s their success with our failures that pisses me off the most.

I hate the Cowboys, the Raiders, the Eagles, the Jaguars (sorry, Smitty)

(comma) the Bengals, the Chargers, the Patriots, the Giants, and the Bears.

Teams I mildly follow:
Titans, Texans, Jets

Teams I Love:
You know the answer to that one.

You have opinions. Share them.

I very much dislike the 49ers

AND I always will….

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.

I really hate

-the patriots: seeing them lose to the giants was the greatest thing
-the cardinals: I was treated like crap walking out of their stadium after the playoff game, and I can’t wait until Kurt Warner’s age catches up with him and their entire offense falls apart under their Matt Leinart

Its true. I'm a Falcoholic! I just can't live without Falcohol!

I don't care for the Giants...

J. Shockey was a big reason for that, and now look where he plays.

I actually like the Pats – I wanted them to beat the Giants in that SB.

I’d like to see the Lions and the Chiefs have some success.

by TomQ on Jul 13, 2009 10:00 AM EDT reply actions

I agree with you TomQ, I was pulling for the Pats in the SB. Greatest catch I’ve ever seen.

I like the Chiefs and Megatron in Detroit and think the Texans would go the the playoffs if they were in the NFC West.

I'm surprised there isn't more Cowboys distaste

I HATE the Cowboys (this probably originated shortly after joining the Army about 3 years ago). The drama. The fans. Jerry Jones who only hired Wade Phillips so he could micro-manage the team. Wade Phillips for being such a pansy ass coach.

Not to mention, half the Army are freaking Cowboy fans. That whole, “everything is bigger in Texas” mentality. How the fanbase expects their team to win to the extent that they don’t cheer when the team scores, but groans and cries when the team fails.

I often find myself remembering the slaughterfest that was week 17 last season – 44 to 6. The Eagles bumped themselves up a position in my book that game.

I can’t wait for week 7.

Cowboys and Broncos

Cowboys :I hate them with a passion for all the reasons MIA gives. Didn’t Jerry Jones help orchestrate Petrino’s midnight exit to Pigsooheyville?
Broncos : Never liked Elway. Thats one smug SOB. Throw in the 98 SB and they tie with the Cowboys

by zooker on Jul 13, 2009 10:40 AM EDT reply actions

agree

i would happily spend some time in jail if i got a chance to catch petrino alone in his backyard then for his wife to walk outside and see her man taking a beating, and if he has a son i’d headbutt him into submission, punt his dog into the neighbors yard, that would be sweet
am i out of line here?

I absolutely hate the eagles...

…never really liked them at any time but I think I truly started to HATE them after the 2004 NFC Championship. Still feel like if we were healthy we would have beat them…and then there was last year with that BS muffed punt call.

I don’t like the Cowboys or Pats but I can’t hate them beacause I have a bad habit of pulling for my buddies teams to do well unless they are playing against ATL.

I really like the Jags and wish them well, that comes from the fact that I live about an hour and a half away from Jacksonville and I go to quite a few of there games. Speaking of going to games I just found out that I’m going to the ATL MIA game, anybody else gonna be there?

Oh i forgot

in my experience Broncos fans are idiots.

by TO falcon on Jul 13, 2009 11:05 AM EDT reply actions

I will always hate

Cowboys (for ruining our 1 legit SB championship shot)
49ers (becuase they used to whip our azz regularly in the NFC west)
Spittsburgh (because they have the most vile fans I have ever come across)

Life is a garden. Dig it!

Add the 49ers for me

I almost forgot about them, they suck so bad now

by zooker on Jul 13, 2009 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions

haha

Spittsburgh I like that. New girlfriend is a steelers fan so I’ll have to use that one come football season. Can’t say I hate them though when they played in Jacksonville last year they had more fans in the stadium than the Jags. Gotta respect a team when their fans travel like that. There were a lot of Falcons in Jville for the preseason game last year too.

by FLA_Falcon on Jul 13, 2009 12:10 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Doubt they traveled

Freakville is a huge transplant city and more than likely the fans are like myself and simply live here. It was the same for just about every home game on the schedule, especially Indy/Pitt/ATL. But your point still stands, a team with fans everywhere has got to be doing something right and it is hard to ignore the Steelers success lately.

I know there are a ton of Falcons fans here in hiding, glad to finally see another J-ville Falcoholic on the boards though.

Yes

I’m a fan and I have no clue about the other.

sounds good

Its always fun getting together with some football fans, especially falcons fans lol. Just let me know what’s up

by FLA_Falcon on Jul 14, 2009 1:13 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I hate

49ers – always have and probably always will
Redskins – Daniel Snyder
plus Dallas, New England, Pittsburgh – so many bandwagoners… you’re just asking to be hated if you’re calling yourself “America’s Team”. It’s hard to hate Pittsburgh because of how great an organization they run, though…

Teams I’m sorta following:
Detroit – haven’t they suffered enough?
Denver – one of my good buddies is a Broncos fan. Plus, it’s like watching a car crash with McDaniels there…
the entire AFC South (been very competitive lately):
Tennessee – I think Fisher is a great coach
Indy – loved Dungy, love watching Peyton and that passing attack
Jax – tough, gritty team
Houston – lots of young exciting stars

by orang3b on Jul 13, 2009 11:56 AM EDT reply actions

anything new england

and not because of what the team does but because of sportcenter. tom brady farts and there’s a 20 minute report from sportcenter, the red soxs get a hit and they make a commercial about it. anything philly for reason already posted(the fans). not to get off topic but i really hate manny now because of sportscenter.

how 'bout dem cowgirls?

Always Dallas, always. I live in Texas and the fans here are still the most obnoxious (I wore my custom leather Falc’s jacket to a party last winter and some 13 year old kid started saying “we got five rings, how many you got?” and I had to promptly remind him that he was only barely breathing the last time his team won and it was a wild card game at that).

Followed by Denver, at least it looks like Elway cursed them.

Welcome to the site!

My hatred of the Cowboys turns on and off. I’m wonderfully shielded from any annoying fans up in this neck of the woods and they actually have some players I like, so right now is a downswing.

cowboys

you call yourself a boy and americas team can you trly put those to things together in the same franchise i dislikethere ways with a passion

by mistab50 on Jul 13, 2009 4:29 PM EDT reply actions

For me, it will always be...

…the 49ers and Broncos.

Too many Monday Night debacles and regular season games in which Montana, Young and Rice ran up the score on our hapless late 80’s-90’s defenses, plus the fawning of the TV talking heads. A plague on ’em, and it does my heart good to see that misbegotten franchise struggling now.

The Broncos were OK till they got that smug bastard Elway, and the even smugger and repellent Shanahan eventually. Plus, yeah, they beat our asses in the Super Bowl. Fuggem. I hope they go -1 and 16 this year.

Can’t work up too much hatred for anyone else- used to despise the Rams, both LA and St. Louis versions- but the statute of limitations of hatred has expired on those guys because we’ve had their number for some time now. I pity Minnesota because they’re cursed, but try as I might I can’t hate ‘em. Never cared for the Dolphins; I know too damn many people who root for that team because of how good they were in the 70’s and 80’s, even though they have no other compelling reason to do so. Lotta fair-weather Titans fans around here where I live (KY), too. Screw those guys, too, although I’ve developed some grudging respect for them, especially Fischer. I couldn’t stand their pokey, boring offenses with McNair (RIP) and Eddie George.

Teams a lot of people hate, I kinda like, depending on how many of their players I have in Fantasy- Cowboys, Raiders (Jeff Hostetler got me through several seasons while he was a Raider).

I could run down each team, but I’ll have mercy and stop now…
