Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

"Tony is one of the best tight ends in NFL history and will be a great addition to our team," said Head Coach Mike Smith. "He will be a leader both on and off the field for our organization."

Coach Mike Smith

Think they couldn't get comment from Mike Mularkey because he's too busy doing backflips?

vs. the Bucs' trade for Kellen Winslow

I know TG is older, but I think we came out on top not only in skills and proven production but, more importantly, in character and leadership.

Although

Winslow has him beat in the all important d-bag/blowhard skills you need from your TE. Unfortunately, even their backup TE has Tony G beat – Jerramy Stevens. They’re collecting the whole set…

most important thing "3 to 4 years"

“It’s somewhat bittersweet,” Gonzalez told FOXSports.com exclusively. "I love Kansas City. I grew up in Kansas City. The city means a lot to me. I got there when I turned 21. It will be sad to leave a city I love. But I’m looking forward to making a Super Bowl run in Atlanta every year for the next three or four years.
“With Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, Roddy White and now myself, we have the chance to be in the top 5 in the league in offense every year. How could I not be excited to join that team?

I think this is another key point here, he hasn’t been on a contender in so long he will be extra hungry to get this team to the top and give everything he has. The dude already gives ridiculous effort to make all those catches in triple coverage but now there is a real chance of some playoff glory. I am pumped.

Ok, now I'm dancing around the room

If we can get 3-4 years of him, even if he drops off so far to be half the player (statistically) he is now, the Falcons still just made a hell of a trade.

I got chills when I read that ...

Dear Vishnu:

If there is any way for TD to pull of a miracle draft and revive our D, I’d be VERY appreciate.

Best Regards,
Franky Wren

Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?

Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.

That's just awesome

You’re going to become a good luck charm on Sundays, that’s for sure.

"...every year for the next three or four years."

Ok, if I wasn’t sold before, I AM SOLD NOW.

Don Banks has updated his mock, and now has us taking Peria Jerry – and Pettigrew slipping to the second round.

Looking for veteran leadership, Smitty?

Perhaps the leadership factor added value to Gonzalez. With so many vets gone in the last couple of years, it’s certainly understandable that the Falcons (may have) paid a little extra for that particular intangible.

Let’s shore up the O-line and the defense this weekend, and maybe we’ll win a game or ten next year. Cheers!

If so...

I can’t imagine any other player better fitting the role of veteran mentor than TG for our still young offense both on the field and in the locker room.

As a Chiefs fan ...

I’ll just say that you can expect all of that and more from Tony.

Last year, when we were on our fourth quarterback, he took time to take the kid (Tyler Thigpen) into the tape room beyond after practices and go over things with him, and was a big part of Thigpen being as successful as he was (despite the 2-14 record, our offense wasn’t an issue — it was the defense that fell apart on us every game).

Win a Super Bowl ring for him so that the trade wasn’t a total waste for us, alright?
