The Falcoholic Mock Draft Spectacular: The Fifth Round
Let's get the important part out of the way first. The Falcons have two picks in this round, so the top two vote getters here will become part of the vaunted Atlanta organization. Lucky them!
I'm also going to post the list of who we've drafted so far in an effort to inject some sanity into the proceedings. I'm hopeful that we'll be able to address remaining needs in the secondary and along the offensive line, but it's up to you guys. I'm entrusting you with great responsibility, which comes with great power. Or something.
Vote away, my gentle readers!
Round 1: USC LB Brian Cushing
Round 2: SC TE Jared Cook
Round 3: Auburn DT Sen'Derrick Marks
Round 4: SC LB Jasper Brinkley

Apparently getting bigger up front

My issue is depth
we were relatively healthy last year and that trend HOPEFULLY continues, but odds are against it. If our ol gets thin and weak then we are in trouble. Being a power running team only works if you can do just that.

No offense to anyone intended
But when a running back is outpacing every single offensive line candidate, I’m perplexed.
A suggestion
Only allow nominations for OL’s in the 6th round. If you don’t get the results you want, just rig it!
No offense to anyone intended either BUUUUTTTT

WHY?
James is a unique talent. Why pass him up? Yes, we have depth at that spot, but new players are cheaper….maybe snelling can be traded for another 4th rounder…

It's not that I don't like the kid
I just can’t see the team going through an entire draft—and we almost will have, at this point—without getting any help along the offensive line. I’d be okay with a Joel Bell and James Davis set of picks here, but it’s kind of moot because neither is anywhere near the top at the moment.

Who is going to give us a 4th rounder for Snelling?
No offense, but he was a 7th rounder, and it isn’t like he’s done much of anything to warrant 4th round value. Moreover, it isn’t like either of Brown/Snelling are raking in the big bucks.
There’s no denying that James has talent, but we’re already looking at a solid competition for the third running back slot.
Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?
Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.
As I recall...
We got a lot of value for Schaub, and I might be mistaken, but he was all potential. I think Snelling could be a nice fit in AZ or DN….

I was all tangled up there, trying to work and post at the same time...
lol

That does not seem analogous IMO ...
UNPROVEN third string RBs aren’t valued like PROMISING back up QBs. But you’re certainly entitled to your opinion.
No offense, but I really don’t understand the man crush some posters have on Snelling.
Face it people! He’ll either be on the practice squad or in a different uni come September.

Yup … I was referring to you (among others).

Might finally make the cut
Overview – Despite opposing quarterbacks focusing on his side of the field rather than attack Michael Jenkins, Washington struggled to make game-changing plays throughout his career, intercepting only two passes. Washington is expected to get a late boost with his workouts, but scouts view him as a better athlete than football player and strictly a draft gamble based on his upside.
Negatives – Gives receivers a big cushion and seems content with making the tackle rather than going for the interception. … Too often allows passes into his chest and lacks natural hands for the interception. … Plays with bit of a cover corner mentality and doesn’t get very involved in run support. … Finished the 2008 season with only five assisted tackles. … Suspended for the first two games of the 2008 season due to a violation of team rules.
I guess I can’t complain too much about a gamble on a 5th rounder w/ high upside, though. No big loss if he wasn’t any good. If we drafted him in the 3rd – that’s another story…
mocks have him going anywhere from 2nd to 6th
he dominated the combine! pure athlete
