Potential Draft Day Trade For Dorsey
http://www.eastcoastsportsnews.com/als09scoop.html
Im not going to pretend this is an amazing source but he did predict the Peters to Phillie trade over a month ago and he must have some credibility....
What you guys think?
*A potential draft-day trade between the Chiefs and Falcons could become a reality, since the Falcons need a DT to replace Grady Jackson, and the Chiefs are looking to move DT Glenn Dorsey, and acquire more picks...*

I wonder what it'll take ...
It’d be nice if we could make this happen and still manage to keep the picks we’d need to compete this year.
In my mind, something along these lines would be OK:
(1) Falcons 1st round pick (2009)
(2) Falcons 2nd round pick (2009)
(3) Falcons 6th or 7th round pick (2010)
FOR
(1) Dorsey
(2) Chiefs second round pick (2009)
(3) Chiefs 5th or 6th round pick (2010)
I don’t mean to insult anyone … but does anyone else think that the Chiefs are a VERY poorly run franchise? I mean, they’re trying hard to hold onto T Gonzalez, when he clearly doesn’t want to be there. On top of that, they’re ready to ship off Dorsey a year after he’s drafted. Maybe Pioli will change things, but it seems like their priorities are out-of-whack in KC.
Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?
Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.
They were in the past but
This Pioli guy from the New England system has come in and all chief fans have a boner for him. Too bad he’s got a plateful of dog shit to deal with in the Chiefs roster.

Easy now..........
Chief’s fan here! There has been some talk in Arrowhead Pride about DORSEY being traded, because he’s not big enough to play NT, which we think we will be using some sort of 4-3/3-4 hybrid D-fense! I’m one of the few who doesn’t want to get rid of Dorsey because i think he’s going to be a good player, but for the right pick’s, i guess i would have to deal with it like the T.G trade! Here’s to hoping T.G get’s a ring, good luck this yr guy’s, wish you the best!

I've heard rumors
Of them wanting to move Dorsey, but I think it’s more like speculation – since they supposedly are moving to a 3-4 (Is that even official? I thought Pendergast ran more of a 4-3/3-4 hybrid in Arizona last year, anyway).
Franky, I think your proposed trade would be way short for the Chiefs (plus I don’t think they have an ‘09 2nd rounder – Cassel). #24 and we move up in the draft this year and next year for the #5 pick last year? I don’t think they would be that desperate, even if they were seriously considering moving him…
Yeah, I figured it was a little "short" ...
but my proposal was more along the lines of what I’d be comfortable giving up (w/ an eye towards filling the rest of our remaining needs).
In my mind, something along these lines would be OK
I didn’t mean to assert that they’d go for it, only guessing at what wouldn’t cripple us going into the draft.
Totally blanked on the Cassel trade, so my bad in that regard.
You seem to be the “guru” when it comes to the value of draft picks, what would you suggest? Keep in mind, assuming they’d be willing to trade him in the first place, it isn’t exactly fair to assume they think he’s still worth the no. 5 overall pick they spent on him last spring.
Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?
Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.
Gotcha
Hmmm… I’m the draft value guru now? Well, I know Dorsey didn’t have a great year last year, but I think they would have to get a huge deal to consider moving him (if for no other reason than not looking like total idiots).
I’d guess the Shaun Rogers & Kris Jenkins trades last off-season would be a good place to start: Rogers moved to CLE for a 3rd rounder and CB Leigh Bodden (was originally agreed w/CIN for a 3rd and a 5th). Jenkins went to NYJ for a 3rd and a 5th. They are both 29-30, and were regarded as solid DT’s with some flaws.
Dorsey (even though his rookie season was somewhat disappointing) is still regarded as a top talent, and I just think they’d be fools to completely give up on him this soon (for whatever reason). I would think they would want at least our #24 plus a 5th rounder – that’s my guess. Actually, it might be more than that. And anything more than that would be too much, in my opinion.
Oh,
And keep in mind that the #5 pick (1700) is worth almost 2.5x the #24 pick (740) – if you’re going strictly by the chart…
Yeah ...
I completely agree that they’d be motivated by “trying not look like total idiots.” I still think Dorsey isn’t worth the no. 5 overall pick (or the value associated w/ that pick). But, of course, I’m saying that in hindsight.
Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?
Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.
The price would certainly be steep...
I wouldn’t be surprised if they asked for this year’s first rounder, this year’s second rounder, and NEXT YEAR’s first rounder.
Very unlikely
While I really think the world of Glenn Dorsey and would love to get him, I don’t think this trade is going to happen. The Falcons would have to hemorrhage picks to do this, and while acquiring a player of Dorsey’s caliber would fill a major need, we would be hard-pressed to fill critical needs at linebacker and in the secondary. Add in the McClure drama, and I can’t see them rolling the dice on this.
Tony Gonzales
Considering the Chiefs turned down the offer of a 2nd round pick for Tony Gonzales, I just don’t see this happening. I can only imagine what they are thinking they;re going to get for picks for a TE going into his 13th season. Nevermind a highly rated DT heading into his 2nd …

No way in hell...
Just don’t see this as even a possibilty. We would have to give up way too much. Not to mention the salary that Dorsey has as well. We would probably have to move somebody as well as some picks for it to work financially.
maybe
it would be nice if we could trade J Anderson and a 3rd rounder for Dorsey. id say that would be a great trade as anderson seem to fir the 3-4 end better that the 4-3 end imo.

honestly
in this scenario, I’d be willing to trade Anderson with our first… but it isn’t going to happen, Anderson hasn’t proved himself to the NFL and nobody will put any value in him. Hopefully… hopefully he finally starts to shine for us in this coming season. Then all at least one of our worries will be a mute point.
Screw it ...
Trade Anderson for 5 footballs, a pair of shoulder pads, and a box of Twinkies.

YES!
But it needs to be a family sized box of Twinkies.

Here's the latest rumor
I don’t know where he got this, but my brother just said he read this is the proposal
Falcons get Dorsey and Gonzalez
Chiefs get Falcons 1st, 2nd, and 5th rounders
So the way I figure it, we would get Dorsey for #24 and a fifth rounder and Gonzalez for the second rounder that was allegedly proposed last week. I thought that was overpaying for Gonzalez, and as much as I loved Dorsey last year, I don’t know if I feel good enough about his performance last season. On the other hand, I really, really, really wanted Dorsey and don’t think the team could get someone with as much potential at what I think is their position of greatest need.
So what do y’all think?
Man
I really don’t have an answer for that. Honestly. On one hand, that’s addressing two major needs. On the other hand, we’re giving up three draft picks in a relatively deep defensive draft. I don’t know what I’d do.
Make the 2nd rounder in next year's draft...
Gold, Jerry.
Really, the more I think about it, we should do this in a heartbeat...
I don’t think you can necessarily look at it as “Dorsey = 1st, 5th” and “Gonzalez = 2nd.” If you really have to pair them up like that, it would be a lot closer to “Dorsey = 1st, 2nd” and “Gonzalez = 5th.”
Dorsey would be worth a late 1st and a late 2nd straight up, and Gonzalez would CERTAINLY be worth a 5th (I too scoffed at a 2nd for him).
There’s no way this deal get done, though – it reeks too much of Internet fantasyland. (Though I hope to be proved wrong).
Yeah, but
I dont see this happening at all. If it was a possibility I would do it . I cant see that KC would give up both players unless they are giving up on the season before it even begins….

That cant be real?
If that rumor is real I’d do it in a heartbeat! The Falcons were eying Dorsey last year with the 3rd pick, they were also looking in trade possibilities with Gonzales. Now this is where I think its a no brainer…
The Falcons give up a 1, 2 & 5th round pick..
The 2nd round pick is a wash which is what the offer for Gonzales originally was..
Their 1st round pick would essentially be what they’re actually giving up for Dorsey..
The 5th round pick their throwing in is rather irrelevant and besides, they still have another 5th round pick.
If they gain Dorsey, last years elite DT who was selected 4th in the draft.. they would be giving a 24th overall selection for him..
Now that’s a bargain!
"Just want the Falcons to win a bowl before I'm gone!"
that would be interesting
I don’t know how well I’d be able to swallow that though… the 2nd for Gonzales was hard to swallow, but I reached a point of acceptance when I thought it might actually happen.
Our first for Dorsey is worth it too me… I bet that he’d pick up at least 2-3 sacks in the Falcons defense because who would get double teamed, Abraham or Dorsey? If they both got stacked against, maybe Anderson would finally do something.
Only thing about this is it would be a huge gamble. What happens when one of our LBs goes down? We still don’t have a superstar at CB. Abraham never has been a golden bill of health.
I dunno – TE is too much of a want vs need. I’d rather give them Peele than our 5th round pick. It’s a good thing Dimitroff is making these decisions instead of me. I know I’m gonna be able to accept whatever he decides to do.
One more question… would we even be able to afford a trade like this (referring to cap space)?
by MentallyMIA on Apr 20, 2009 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions
yes.
we have plenty of cap space. especially after all the departures in FA. 24 million under is projected.
by TheFranchiseis#2 on Apr 21, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions
wait...
that figure is before the departures…. so we have a lot lot lot.

Dorsey Trade
This is what I heard today -
Jammal Anderson and our 1st for Dorsey and Gonzales. Which I think makes sense for both teams – essentially trading Anderson for Dorsey (two high first round pick disappointments based on their pro careers, realizing it is early for both) and the Chiefs get their first round pick for Gonzales, it also frees cap room for the Chiefs for the new GM to rebuild the team. We fill two critical needs with one first round pick. Not a bad deal for either side, especially with the Chiefs moving to a 3/4.

I could really get on board with that.
Give J Anderson a fresh start. His skill set would be great for a 3-4 SDE. Getting Dorsey in return would be sweet. I’m not sure if I agree with the 1st rounder to get it done. I’d be happier with 2nd and 5th+ Anderson for Dorsey/Gonzales. That still allows us to snare an elite prospect at SOLB…

Abraham, Babs, Dorsey, Davis….I can live with that…. =)

Not as glamorus, but all 4 DL should be able to get pressure, this wouldn’t be so bad…

I like the sound of that
I say with the front 4, keep JAnderson for rotations (unless he gets traded), maybe he’ll surprise us after seeing that his position is in jeopordy if he doesn’t perform.
I think Coleman is coming along too. I think he’ll be quite the player if not this next year, than the year after. I think when he realizes that he’ll be replaced if he doesn’t perform this coming season then he’ll step up a notch (I mean, he’s already decent)
Coleman
was 3rd leading tackler at FS last year and had 3 picks.
