James Laurinaitis

Here is my case for Laurinaitis

Star-divide

Yesterday on the way to work I was listening to Sirius NFL radio and they were interviewing Laurinaitis. They mentioned that our Falcons extensively interviewed him. Laurinaitis mentioned that the only owner that spoke with him was Blank, and it went great. What I liked about that is that Blank really got in depth with Laurinaitis about his character and what he would bring to the community as well as leadership to the defense. The kid sounds smart, like a hard worker, and an all around good guy. This could be our guy! He sounds like a young Keith Brooking. If Laurinaitis came out last year he would have been a top 10 pick, yet he decided to stay so he could finish up his education and get his degree. If this kid falls to 24 I really believe he will be ours. I know we have glaring needs all over the Defense, but I believe if we stick this kid next to Lofton we can really start to build something special...I'm a big fan.

Acomplishments-

2006- Nagurski Award - Nations best Defensive Player

2007-2008 - Butkis award - Nations best Linebacker

08 - Big 10 Defensive Player of the year

Lott trophy- Nations impact player or the year

08 - Lowes seinor CLASS award winner

3 Time All American

This kid is one of college footballs most decorated players of all time. So let the naysayers keep talking him down, so we can get him at 24 and get out D Captain for the next 11 years!

my concerns about this kid

are that he spent nearly all of college on the inside. I dont fancy disrupting Lofton in the middle so how good is JL pass coverage? we all know he can get after a guy but can he play out cover 2 OLB spot?

such a hard call

with so many holes on defense, just one guy will never be our answer. He’s a great kid, but I don’t think he is the answer to our greatest needs… not with Lofton shining so bright anyways.

im still looking at...

DT or SS first round or Trade Down.

Theres no out and out OLB or DE in the first round this year. They are all 3-4 hybrid OLB or DE

JL teammate Freeman has come up as a geniune OLB that will hunt the ball down. but he is seen as a 2nd rounder.

I prefer Sintim

I would like to see Sintim paired beside Lofton. The Falcons could use a pass rushing linebacker and he’d be perfect. They major holes on D, so the debate of DT, LB, CB, S will continue.

They can address the secondary with 2nd and 3rd picks and DT with their 4th, or pick another LB. They have 2 5th round picks which could be used on either of those along with a TE.

i dont see CB as a high need right now.

we managed without Foxworth for half the season.

I’d rather take Cushing, since he actually plays OLB. I heard somewhere that Laurinaitis didn’t want to move from ILB, which would take him off our list I would think. That may have been just a rumor though

long gone

I don’t think Cushing will be available with out Pick. I do like him though, he’d help out the defense quite a bit. Sintim will be available when we pick at 24 though, and he’s more of what the Falcons are looking for.

If ...

1. TD can’t and/or doesn’t want to trade up or down
2. Moore (Missouri) is off the board
3. Delmas (Western Michigan) is off the board

Then we could do worse than Laurinitis (assuming he’s there). The great thing about Laurinitis is his football intelligence. He’s not the kind of guy that blows you away physically, and he isn’t the strongest or fastest guy on the field, but he has a ridiculous nose for the ball.

BUT … the more I read about Maybin, the more I like.

His coverage skills are above average.

yes but

ryans intangibles and knowledge of the game was off the charts. maybe laurinitis could be another jackpot pick.
