Did anyone catch this? Apparently the old GM plant in Doraville (map) could be the site of a $1 billion dollar new stadium for our Birds. McKay and Blank are in "talks" and could be using the new stadium as early as 2015 despite the Falcons' lease on the Dome lasting until 2020. The site is about fourteen to sixteen miles northeast of the Dome and would be more accessible to the denser suburban crowd.

Yep

I have been hearing about this for over a year now. Looks legit. I just know that if they do this that they will start chanrging a license fee for seats. If/when they do that I am out. I do not want to drive to Doraville on Sundays anyway. I prefer that they keep the satdium dowtown myself. but hye, at least it not Gwinnet… LOL!

Interesting

This is honestly the first time I’ve heard it mentioned as a seriously possibility. Not sure how I feel about it.

Somewhat on the fence

I agree with Hardcore that they keep it downtown. I live out-of-state so currently it does not affect me either way. If they wanted to keep it downtown, could they use the space from the old Ford factory in Hapeville by the airport?

I also agree w/ Hardcore

Obviously, the area surrounding the dome is less-than-desirable in some aspects. But come on … DORAVILLE?!

Blank has been openly talking about wanting to move for a few years now...

I’m not opposed to the Falcons moving, mostly because I think southern football should be played outdoors. But, yeah, Doraville?

At least they won’t have a problem finding cheap labor.

Hey Now

I live in Dunwoody and would love them to build a stadium there. That plant has been an eyesore. They have updated alot of the area surrounding the plant and this project would further the changes taking place. And if they take tailgaiting into account it could be great. Traveling downtown is a hassle even with Marta. Tailgaiting has always been an after thought. If its done right it could be great.

Not really

As stated in other posts I have been a season ticket holder for years. Tailgating is major now and there are lots of places to do it. Marta doesnt have a stop anywhere close to this old Doraville plant (it would take a shuttle bus of some sort to get there). done right or not, the location actually sucks for a stadium in my opinion. If it is only good becase it is conventient to where you are located, then hell there is plenty of room in douglasville for a stadium…

I find this weird

Considering Blank put up a lot of the money to renovate the Dome during the past offseason.

It's sort of fascinating to me

Because I’m from a galaxy far, far away. It’s very difficult for me to weigh in on this.

I like the new stadium idea, but I’m not so sure about Doraville. As everyone else has already said
