Nnamdi Asomugha

If for whatever reason the Raiders don't resign him and/or put a franchise tag on him I definatley say go for him.  We need alot of help in the secondary, he will be 28 at the start of the season, and he is one of the elite corners in football.  The guys 6 foot 3 which is great because he will be able to keep up with Steve Smith and he will be tall enough to play with Colsten.  This would also help out Houston alot because he is just not a #1 corner but he would be fine at number 2.  Odds are he will be resigned anyways but if he is not this is just something to think about.

If I thought there was a chance

Even a slight one, I’d pretty much pee my pants at the prospect of getting Asomugha. The guy is probably the best coverage corner in the game, but I think there’s no way the Raiders let him out of Oakland.

Ya I would do a backflip if we even mentioned getting Nnamdi Asomugha.

I'm w/ Dave

It doesn’t look like he’ll be wearing the red and black come this fall.

But I do think we’d benefit from bringing in another corner. I understand that Jackson and Houston need their reps, and I also fully appreciate what Foxworth brings to the table … BUT I wholeheartedly reject the notion that bringing in another corner would be excessive and/or detrimental to the development of any of our current players.

Rather a better line...

I don’t know who we’d get or where, but I’d like to see our DL upgrade a couple of notches before we start tweaking the secondary. Sure we don’t have guys in coverage that are going to sell jerseys, but there’s a lot of effort out there, and some above-average talent, especially considering all the depth.

Foxworth/Houston/Hutchins/Grimes/Jackson is a young, well-built rotation, and I feel strangely confident about our secondary’s abilities when the QB has less than 7 or 8 seconds to hold the ball (like they’ve had all year when Abraham wasn’t in Beast Mode)

Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish — a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow — to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested...Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll.

True that

I 100% agree. Fix the DL first …

I do like our CB rotation, but I’d personally like to see another vet in there.

I disagree completely our line is good enough to get by but our secondary isn’t. Must I remind you how Arizona clinched the game against us. We have big Grady Jackson who you can’t run, Barbinueax (probably spelled that wrong) who is just getting better and he is gradually improving his sacks. Abraham who was awesome (understatement) and Jamal Anderson who yes struggled (another understatemnet) last year but he still was a 1st rd pick a few years ago and still has the potential to do great things.

Um ...

When did I say that our line is “good enough” but “our secondary isn’t”?

I think our DL needs work first and foremost, then LB/S/OT/DE (in that order) … and then our secondary could use an upgrade.

What!? I said I disagree completely. I said our line is good enough.

OK

But the syntax in your posted wasn’t entirely clear. 28th in the league? You think that’s “good enough”?

We'll have to agree to disagree

1. Grady is not improving. Grady is currently, and has been for a while, in decline. He won’t rock the red and black next season, unless that happens to be the color of the Greensville County Fair’s Hot Dog Eating Contest bibs.
2. Anderson is not improving (2 sacks in 2 yrs doesn’t do it for me). He may improve, but only if we shift him inside.

What about the other side of the line?

Nnamdi Asomugha

Is the type of player that would really fit in our club. Look at what he brings to the table. 1st off he is well respected in the community and believes in a team first mentality, second he is arguably the best CB in the NFL. He played with a shaky defense in Oakland, and still now QB consistantly challenged his side of the field. He is a beast! To be honest this is the main free agent i’d like to see the Falcons sign. I love Hainesworth and what he could do, but Asomugha would instantly upgrade our secondary.
Now the reality of the situation is that he will most likely be franchised and we wouldn’t be able to get him. So I bring up the question…

What about Dunta Robinson?
Wasn’t able to play 100% last year while recovering froma knee injury, but still played well. He should be back to full strength next year is an UFA and is a very good corner when healthy.
Just a thought, what do y’all think?

You stay classy, falcoholic.

If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother.

as much as I'd love to see it

I can’t be optomistic about it. Other than the fact that DeAngelo Hall played the worst season of his career in Oakland, I am convinced that the primary reason they got rid of him is so they could make the cap room for franchising Asomugha.

I’d love to be wrong about this theory… but I’m sure he won’t be seeing the free agency any time soon.

Well I agree he is likely to be franchised but it was just a thought. Robinson could be a good quiet acquistiton.
