Does Peppers want to be a Falcon?
So he has a 4 team list of teams he would like to be traded to. 1) Cowboys 2) An AFC team 3) 2 other unnamed teams in the NFC South Let's see, there are only three other teams in the south. Saints, Bucs & Falcons. If I'm Peppers I might be thinking about who the hottest team was in the division other than the Panthers. Coaching staff stabilty? Not in TB. Young crop of rising stars on the offense? Not in TB or NO. A pass rushing monster on the other end? Again, not in TB or NO.
So who does that leave? Let's see.... hmm.... I wonder.... OH YEAH! THE FALCONS!

He just got franchised ...
So nix that idea. Gross was signed too. Oh, and Oakland signed Osamugha (sp?) …

We would trade for him, not make him an offer
He won’t be a Panther next year. The tagged him so that if anyone offers him a contract and he agrees they get two #1’s. They would remove the tag if they got a decent trade offer I think.

Not worth it
In my opinion, the probability that Peppers is good enough to make up for the loss of two first round picks over the life of his contract is pretty darn low. Not that I don’t think Peppers is a good player, of course. It’s just that I don’t think he’s that good.

Just a thought
Dave, imagine you wake up tomorrow as the Good Comrade, Thomas Dimitroff, and I magically become the GM of the panthers, I am 99.9% certain that if I called you and said the following, your answer would unequivocally be YES!
Me: Hey Thomas, its me, the douche that runs the panthers.
You: Oh..hey…how can i help you?
Me: I’ll trade you Julius Peppers for Jamaal Anderson and DeAngelo Hall (I KNOW HE ISN’T ON THE TEAM, IM JUST USING HIM AS AN EXAMPLE OF A 1ST ROUND PICK)
You: Let me think about it for a second…YES.
My point is, when you can get a sure-fire-barn-burner at a position of need that will be able to produce IMMEDIATELY, sometimes its worth giving up the potential of first round draft picks. ESPECIALLY, when you are likely to be drafting later on in the round and have a GM who is capable of still filling positions of need with picks in the 2nd and 3rd round….

Here's the thing
Those guys were drafted under Rich McKay. I trust Comrade Dimitroff to handle those two first round picks far more than I trust McKay to pull the trigger.
There’s also some question of attitude on a down-by-down basis. The dude’s incredibly talented, but unless I’m 100% sure he’s going to play with intensity, it’s a real gamble to throw two first rounds picks and a huge chunk of cap space at him.
That’s all I’m sayin’.

I don’t think we would necessarily have to give up 2 first round draft picks to get him, seeing as we would get him via trade. But I’d probably rather not have him, just because his attitude could rub off on the good, young guys we have.

you do have to give up two 1st round picks
that is the minimal trade for a franchised player… or is it just 1 is mandatory… not sure. I do know a 1st round pick is mandatory in the deal though

Franchise Tag
Here’s how it works.
1.) Team places the tag on a player.
2.) Player may seek to be signed by another team.
3.) That team may tender and offer, the tagging team has an option to match.
4.) If the tagging team doesn’t match, and the player signs the new contract, the tagging team is due two first round picks.
HOWEVER, this situation can play out too.
1.) Team places a tag on player.
2.) Team seeks to trade tagged player.
3.) Team can receive whatever compensation they need in order to complete the trade.
4.) Tagged player must sign the contract offered by the trading team.

I see ... but still
he has ‘tude issues. Not in the "I’m a dick to my teammates" sort of way. More like the “I like football … but I’d rather be playing X-Box kind of way.”

Come to think of it..
Those the exact reasons that I discounted signing Dre Bly in another thread. Def. something to keep in mind. Good call FrankyWren.

I'd trade him to you for a #1 and a #3
This whole “don’t trade in the division” is overblown in my view.

I think it's a great idea.
If I had a chance to unload an aging consistently inconsistent 29 year old DE that had a 2.5 sack season not that long ago, AND saddle my division rival with a giant contract AND cripple their ability to build a team, I would do it in a heartbeat.
I hope Peppers doesn’t want to come here. In fact, I really hope he wants to be a Panther, and he ends up with all your cap space and no first round picks.
