Dre Bly
has also been released by the broncos today. Just a thought but he's always been decent enough to start. Would the falcons be willing to give him a shot? its not like he'd cost a whole lot either. Never know maybe he'll revive his career in Atlanta. I'd say its worth a shot for a low cost/ possible high reward kind of deal. What do you think? What do you think it would take to get him?

I think the problem is
Bly has fallen to the point where he’s not a whole lot better than Von Hutchins, who should be ready to go by the time the season rolls around. Given that we’re trying to develop Chevis Jackson and Brent Grimes, I don’t think Bly’s really got a role with this team.

Objection!
Like a lawyer renewing his objections in a timely manner to preserve the issue on appeal, allow me to renew my position that Atlanta doesn’t need better DBs. They need a better DL. If any DBs are necessary they are at S, not at CB.
Sure, we could get ‘Dre Bly, but if he, or damn near any other CB in the league, is asked to cover an improvising WR for 7+ seconds, he’s going to struggle. The trick is to cut that time down. Babs is decent enough, and Abraham speaks for himself, but JA98 and, um, whoever the other pass rushing DT is (cuz we all know big Grady isn’t gonna get after a QB) can’t help drop the time. And that’s not just an arithmetic increase, because of Anderson consistently getting shut down, all the QB has to do is roll to Anderson’s side. You’ve just bought yourself an extra 2-3 seconds to deliver the ball, and no corner can reasonably be expected to cover a WR forever.
We need more info on potential DEs and DTs once FA starts. I’m personally quite content with resigning Foxworth, picking up a S in the draft (I like Scout.com’s Ellison idea) and calling it a day for that part of the field.
Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish — a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow — to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested...Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll.

2 schools of thought:
1. We have a talented enough CB corps right now.
2. We have a talented CB corps, but while Jackson/Houston continue to develop, it might be beneficial to bring in someone not named Von or Brent.
I understand where those who follow #1 are coming from. I’m excited to see where Jackson/Houston will take our secondary for years to come, and I’m a HUGE fan of D-Fox …
My thinking w/ #2, and stick w/ me here, is that the addition of a pass rushing LB, a rookie S, a FA DE might not be enough to suddenly transform our secondary. But that’s pure speculation, I’ll admit that. At the end of the day, however, I betcha they sign a few FA corners.

S Ellison
You mention USC S Ellison in another post, can you please tell me more? I first heard about him in Scout.com’s mock, and they have him rated as a very cerebral player. That gets big props from me, especially at that position. Someone who has the brainpower to manipulate coverages on the fly is invaluable in my book.

he is
a very smart player and some would say he was the official leader of that vaunted USC defense, but he is huge for a safety and can move pretty good. he’s a little bit raw, but i definitely think he’s an impact player. after watching USC all year every time the defense needed a big play it came from Ellison. I personally think hes a hidden gem.

I vote no
Dont like Bly as a solution. Our young guys are good enough and yeah I like foxworth as well. Maybe as a backup/mentor type but not as a starter. Linebackers and D line are where we need to focus in my opinion. I need to go look and see who is available though. not sure what our draft options are at this point.
Rock on!

The guy seems like a pr*ck
I have seen several interviews with him and he just seemed like such a jerk. I remember him talking about how hard it was on him being “obviously the best player on a horrible team” or something to that effect.
Of course that opinion is purely based on how I view him as a person. On the field, I don’t think we should even be thinking about him. He is going to want a huge contract because he is “Dre Bly”. And I don’t think he would ever in a million years accept any role other than a starter.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.

Thank God
we have a sensible front office that won’t even pursue players like this. Sorry Dre/Big Al, ATL does it classy!
