Favorite NFL Draft publications?

Every year, I find myself buying one or two of those NFL Draft annuals (you know, the ones in magazine or newspaper format) to edumacate myself on the talent pool, since I'm not familiar with most college-level players.  There must be a half dozen or more of those publications out there nowadays, and I thought it might be interesting to find out what everyone else reads.

Which annuals do youse guys prefer (and why)?  Personally, I have come to favor the USA Today Sports Weekly annual, for no other reason than its later publication date (and thus presumably more up to date info).

Those things cost what, $7 or $8 a clip now?  Buying up a bunch of them gets expensive after a while.  Perhaps our Falcoholic community opinions may save someone from buying a turkey of a magazine (and there are PLENTY of them out there, believe me).

Thanks, everyone.  Cheers!

"turkey of a magazine"

I like the metaphor … I’ll be happy once the draft is over. That way I research the guys we actually draft.

I have to say I'm heavily Internet invested

I go to pretty much every draft site you can think of.

Internets, eh?

Publications like these underscore why the magazine business is struggling. Why pay for a dated periodical when you can get info constantly updated online from multiple sources? I still buy them mostly out of (30+ year) habit anyway.

My in-laws

Always buy copies of a fantasy football magazine in the summer, before our August draft. The problem is that by then, I can go on Rotoworld and get much more accurate information than something that was put out to print back in mid-April.

There’s something to be said for having a magazine in your hands to look over, but I do it more because it interests me than anything else. I’m a voracious reader, so the last thing you’ll pry out of my cold hands are books.

Doesn't the sporting news do one?

Yep

Affirmative, though they’re not an upper-echelon offering IMO. Someone (NewsCorp?) bought them out several years ago, and they haven’t been the same since.

The number of low quality annuals has grown steadily over the years. I guess when you can charge that much money for one magazine, you create a market that encourages publishers to jump in for some quick bucks once a year.

Hey...

NewsCorp owns my paper, too!

Clarification

Sporting News is actually owned by American City Business Journals. American City is a unit of Advance Publications, the privately held parent company of magazine publisher Conde Nast, Golf Digest, Parade publications and numerous newspapers.

The fate of the Sporting News is sad to this old baseball fan. They were the Publishing Gods of the baseball world once upon a time, now they’re just a face in the crowd.

Ugh

I got your point at Parade.

A lot of the more august publications out there are sickly, and I won’t even get started on those that were less lightly regarded. Despite our best efforts to deny it, there’s a transformation going on in the world of print media and ink-stained giants that isn’t going to end well.

Also predicted the Falcons to win one game last year I believe.

So did Banks and King.

Dr. Z gave us 4 wins. Bless him.
