Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles Open Thread

The door hinges on this one like a season. Wait, I got that wrong.

For those of you who want nothing more than to see the Falcons get to nine wins this season, this is an important game. For those of you who have your hearts set on a playoff berth, this is critical. Either way, a win against the Eagles would go a long way toward achieving the goal you hold most dear.

It'll be an uphill challenge, as we've noted repeatedly this week. Teams missing their top quarterback and running back, potentially their second best receiver and a couple o' offensive linemen don't regularly win games in this league. Let's hope the Falcons buck that trend.

Onward and upward, then!

Who? Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m. EST

Where? Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia

Weather? It's snowing up here in New Hampshire as I type this, but somehow I don't think you'll get much weather at all at the stadium. Call me crazy.

Injuries? Matt Ryan is out and Michael Turner is questionable, despite the fact that he's virtually a lock not to play. Sam Baker and Harvey Dahl are both questionable, but Dahl didn't practice Friday and who knows with Baker. Roddy White, Curtis Lofton and Brian Finneran are all expected to play, but Michael Jenkins is questionable in the truest sense of the word. If he doesn't play, the Falcons have once again brought Troy Bergeron back onto the active roster.

The Iggles are missing WR DeSean Jackson, RB Brian Westbrook, WR Kevin Curtis, and LB Akeem Jordan, and have a host of probables and questionables. Those are some serious weapons, as well, so their offense doesn't figure to be quite as potent as usual.

Odds? Philly over Atlanta 5.5, O/U 43.5

Foe? Go visit our friends over at Bleeding Green Nation for all things Eagles.

GO FALCONS! Let's pluck these Eagles!

Dahl

and Baker are also out crap

by Erihury on Dec 6, 2009 11:54 AM EST up reply actions

This game will be a huge challenge without Mr Jenks, Ryan, Burner, and probably Dahl out.

Norwood White Lofton, Baker, and Coleman are not 100 % either.

We also have a new kicker and snapper who have only had a few days to practice together.

But I think Atlanta will rise to the challenge and win a close game 24 to 23.

I expect big games from :

Gonzo
Lofton
Abe
Beerman
Norwood
White
Red Bird
DeCoud
Nickolas
Ovie
Zelenka
Freddie Falcon

I don't know about Freddie ...

His routes haven’t been very sharp lately, and I’ve heard that his off-the-field antics are becoming problematic.

Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?

Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.

Freddie's lame

We USED to have a real, trained Falcon fly around the old Atlanta Stadium before Falcons games! Not sure why they stopped that practice. There’s probably an interesting or tragic story there.

The injury bug is dribbling Falcons...

…with all six hands. I don’t foresee a beneficial outcome, but I’ll be here for every play.

Missing our key offensive players coupled with the Eagles’ offensive system’s ability to take advantage of the Falcons’ defensive weaknesses means we could lose this game by over 100 points.

The “experts” predicted we’d have a big falling off this year. This is why I hate the “experts”. There’s absolutely no reason they should have been right, but they were. I hate how life works like that. Same with Texas last night. They had no business winning that game but a bunch of stupidity showed up and gave Texas the game. I hate that.

New Football commandment.

If ye runneth a play, and it does not succeed, you may runneth the same play a second time. However, if the play ye runneth doth not work a second time, thou shalt not runneth the same play a third time.

We severely broke that commandment by running the same play a fourth time, and look what happened. we got zero points.

I will say

I felt we would lose this game, but this is the 4-12 Falcons here, not the 11-5 Falcons.

Literally speaking, just about every player on the ’07 team is playing right now.

Just about every person on the ‘08 team is injured. That’s creepy, if not completely depressing.

Vick TD

Eagles fan here…Falcons fans, you’ve got several key players out so it is understandable the offense is going to have problems. As for the Vick TD, yeah I think he was stuck in there because it is the Falcons but the Eagles have been bad on short yardage for a few years now particularly on the goal line so it wasn’t a total shock they ran Vick in that situation.

I think Dave should Rickroll us.

Theme of the season, no doubt.

"Ryan, under center. Single receiver set, time on his side. Ryan, gonna throw. First professional pass.....CAUGHT!! Jenkins! 30! 25! 20! 15! 10! 5! He lives in Atlanta!!!"

A reception by Marty Booker?

You mean there’s someone else on our offense besides Roddy White? Oh snap! We might win now.

Oh the irony

Michael Vick has sucked all season but guess who is Yahoo sports top performer for the Eagles? Non other than MV7 with

2-2 48 yds passing and 1 td

and 4 Rush, 17 yds, 1 TD

Its like the old times at the Georgia Dome with Vick

since he wasn't really a part of that

it would be like shaking any other player’s hand, to him imo.

I hope the people that were dogging

Matt Ryan realize how much he means to our offense. The kid is the soul of the offense and this would not have happened with him playing.

And the I’ll say it again, the “falcons” fans that were cheering that lying dog killer are a disgrace and not real fans. We just left the game and I feel like I did back in 07. I just pray that Matt can make it back for the last 3 games to save our season.

by Erihury on Dec 6, 2009 4:17 PM EST reply actions

Its official

The Falcons suck again… so much for back to back winning seasons. I blame this on whoever it was at the beginning of the season who said that we would have a lot more injuries this year since we didnt really have many last year. At the time I told them that was hogwash (to put it nicely) but as it turns out they were right.

maybe I am just very ticked off right now, but this really sux.

Life is a garden. Dig it!
