My very first Falcons game
The moment I had been waiting for, my very first Falcons (and NFL) game. The game was the Falcons and the Giants in New York and I thought that I would love to share my experiences with the rest of you just to show how it feels to see your team in person for the very first time.
I know that our season is coming to an end, but I thought I would reflect on it to try to bring something positive to light. Also maybe in the comments people could post their first Falcons experience, whether it be in front of a TV or at a game.
Tony G ties it. I love it.
I woke up in New York city and turned on the TV to find our Tony G getting interviewed by a local radio/TV personality. At that time Matty Ice was in a slump and Tony was defending his QB saying that he's still confident that he can lead the Falcons by limiting his mistakes. It was exactly how I wanted to start my day. And with a quick glass of OJ and some morning breaky my Dad and I left to see my very first football game.
Now being that I am from Australia and being brought up in a family of Rugby my dad naturally has never really understood my obsession with American Football but the crowd atmosphere may have changed his opinion on the matter.
Anywho, it takes about 30-60 minutes to get from Manhatten to Giants Stadium which is quite along time on trains. But in a way it was all worth it as we arrived a good hour or so before kickoff. Let me just say this the new Giants stadium looks amazing from outside and I hear that it rivals that of the new Cowboys stadium.
Giants stadium, Yay!
So I walk down to my seats which were in the corner endzone where Eric Weems scored a TD. Anyway pregame warmups arrived and first out was Michael Koenen who was booming some punts, then came the DB's, then Matt Ryan who received a wide array of boo's and geers. Unfortunantly I didn't get to see my beloved Michael Turner and I guess that's an excuse to finally go to the Georgia Dome.
Michael Koenen warming up the legs.
Defense (or lack there of) getting pumped for what would be a long day.
Matty Ryan comes on. I cheer a "little."
Aaron Stecker catching it on the run.
Team gets together, but Koenen excluded from bunch.
I must say that it was quite an atmosphere, at the time being two playoff teams fighting to get that elusive win, all the fans energized on Beer, it was great. The opening kickoff had me nervous as Hixon (quite sure) almost bounced it outside to take it the distance.
The first quarter was good as we drove down the field late to get a Snelling TD. But after that the next two quarters had me nervous. Our defense was quite terrible that day giving up 20 yard pass after 20 yard pass, it was quite embarrassing. But that final Quarter had me excited and jumping for joy.
This is probably my favourite image of the bunch as in the background the score is 31-24 with 39 seconds left. And right after this Tony G makes the game tying touchdown grab. Very nervous at this point all I could do was stand and wait.
I was so excited that I didn't even focus the lens...
A fellow Falcon standing nearby said to me we had to go for two right there and then. I agreed. I knew that if and when the Giants got the ball back in OT they would score. Due to the onslaught that had taken place over the previous 4 quarters throught the air. I guess it proved to be true as the Giants won the toss, marched down for the field goal and bang there's the win. But I don't really remember this game for the tragic loss in OT I remember how I saw MY team come back and fight. And in all honusty just seeing them was a privelage in itself. So I remind everyone, despite this being an unsuccessful season (well could be successful if we get that 9-7 record) that going through all the drama and frustration will only make that Superbowl win all the more sweeter, so when we get that win I will remember the day I saw my dirty birds fight no matter the circumstances.

Sweet post, man. It’s a shame we couldn’t pull that one off.
But you’re right, this team continues to fight despite all the crap that’s happened. I love it.
"Ryan, under center. Single receiver set, time on his side. Ryan, gonna throw. First professional pass.....CAUGHT!! Jenkins! 30! 25! 20! 15! 10! 5! He lives in Atlanta!!!" -Wes Durham
Nice!
Despite the result, it was a great game to watch… Weirdly I’ve thought some of our best games this year have been the ones we lost narrowly…
ugh.. didn't mean to post that yet...
I was also going to say: I went to my first game this year, at the Georgia Dome against the Bears – it was awesome; a great stadium with a great friendly atmosphere (even though there were LOADS of Bears fans there). I’d definitely recommend a visit to Atlanta next time you’re in the States for a bit of southern hospitality :-)
Yep
We should have gone for two won the game and gone home.
Life is a garden. Dig it!

Fulton County Stadium for me
I was too young to fully understand why i loved the falcons and i think we lost to the Saint Louis Cardinals. But i do remember watching how Zook, Norris and Humphrey harassed the backfield of the cards. I wanted to play defense when i grew up. Too bad i was such i tiny runt until later in life.
I was fourteen
My first game I watched the Saints vs. the Falcons. To see my childhood hero Steve Bartkowski throw that ball to Alfred Jenkins was too cool. Leeman Bennett was on the side lines, Jeff Van Note was the Center and not on the radio. I can still smell and feel the cool crisp air of Fulton County Stadium and the smell of fresh cut grass still tickels my nose when I close my eyes and recall that day. It is still fresh in my mind. I miss the open aired stadium, but some things change, except my loyalty to my favorite team. I am glad you enjoyed your first game. I hope you get to go to many many more.
