Falcons Lose Long Snapper Mike Schneck For The Season
Another day, another injury.
Many of you are probably relieved that these aren't star players going down, and with good reason. Still, Mike Schneck was quietly a very good player in his limited role, and replacement Bryan Pittman will have to do just as well. With a long snapper, invisibility is your best trait. If you do your job well, nobody notices you, and during his time on the time, Schneck was rarely visible. As a free agent after the season, he may not be coming back.
Still....these injuries, man. They trouble me.

Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?
Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.

Hope the new guy does well
Memory plays tricks sometimes, but it seems that bad snaps tend to be pivotal in games. Good luck Mr. Pittman!

man...
I can’t believe we are hearing Moore Fudged up Bull-Schneck. Williams it ever stop? It’s like we are losing a player Peria game and it’s putting us in a Harry situation.
(Did I miss anybody?)

Abundance of ankles
Did we pick up Kathy Bates as a strength coach or something?

Lots of ankles all right
Have the Falcons even played a game on grass this year? Lot of fake turf teams on the schedule. Nice ref to Kathy Bates’ Oscar performance!

It seriously feels like even the divine want us to not get 9 wins.
Holy smokes. There is no other thing to say about this.

Is so, then I blame the Saints fans.

No way
Football Outsiders’ data through Week 6 showed us as one of the healthiest teams up to that point this year. It didn’t take into account players that would miss upcoming games (IR), but there were at least 7 teams listed that knew they had more guys that would be missing time.
The only injured guys that are a big deal are Harry Douglas (#3 WR – I do think we still miss him though), Peria Jerry (a rookie DT – JA98 and others have helped soften this blow), and Brian Williams (a decent, not great, CB – we have plenty of guys able to handle his role).
Once Moore missed all of training camp, there was almost no chance of him getting regular playing time this year (remember DeCoud only played special teams last year, even when there were injuries). Fudge was a back-up/special teams guy – the definition of a replaceable part. We won’t even notice he’s gone. Long Snapper? C’mon. As much as I love Norwood, he was at most going to get 100 carries, and last year was the first time he’s played all 16 games. He is not a huge loss.
If we start hearing names like Ryan, Lofton, Abraham, White, Turner – that’s cause for concern. Otherwise, we’ll be fine!

Optimism?
How dare you!
Seriously, though, I see your point. The problem is that every time we lose one of these guys, it affects our depth.

Exactly
Potentially forcing someone of considerably less skill and talent into 2-deep rotation, which could be disasterous at the wrong time. But to play devil’s advocate, these guys made the league for a reason so when provided an opportunity I’m hoping that they succeed.

Several hours and one speeding ticket later
Still troubled by injuries. I really hope this is the extent of it for this season, because there’s not many more guys we could lose who wouldn’t severely affect the season.
