Noooooooo

How bad can this injury be? You can chop my toe off and I’ll be ready to play QB a week from now!

(Okay, maybe I exaggerate)

At least Redman gets a full week of practice with the starters

Sunday should be interesting. I’m not sure this hurts our chances that much, it’s our D that’s been killing us.

The only silver lining here

Is that Philly is missing several of their main offensive weapons due to injury as well, which could make things a tad easier on our defense. I guess the Vick-Ryan showdown will have to wait for another year though.

by Mountvillainy on Nov 30, 2009 4:08 PM EST up reply actions

Wow ...

Funny how they pretend that Burner would play two weeks ago and then turn around and rule out Ryan on a Monday. Where am I?

Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?

Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.

The MRI Ryan Underwent Must Have Shown More Damage than expected

Jay Glazer mentioned that they felt it was ligament related. We might be without Ryan for a couple of weeks.

i know redman has at least 1 win in him as a starter

redmans playing as good as ryan right now and is passing much better. we have to expect that they will blitz him because he will take a sack before ryan will. so we have to get protection and get the ball out. we should OPEN UP NORWOOD ON IN THE FLATS. put weems in at slot and get him the ball. they will be expecting the run. d will hurt us more then redman

by DEMBIRDZCUZ! on Nov 30, 2009 3:55 PM EST reply actions

Redman will be fine....

I agree with a lot of what DEMBIRDCUZ! said about Redman. I truly think he played as good of a game as Ryan has thus far (obviously, the difference is in potential for the future). We’ve got some great weapons on offense, and even a decent QB should be able to take advantage of them. I’m still guardedly optimistic about this game…

With you on that one Dave

My mood took a nasty hit thanks to this news

Me too.

It kinda makes me wonder about how they handled Turner, too.

Horrible horrible news.

I knew this was going to happen, just knew it. Can this franchise ever catch a break? I always though curses were bs, but after 2005 and now this year. I believe.

If Ryan is done for the year we are screwed. Redman performed admirably yesterday, and he doesn’t make dumb mistakes, but I don’t feel he is capable of carrying this team on his back against decent teams. Matt is capable of doing that, and we really needed him down this stretch. The Eagles game is still a tossup since they are banged up as well, but if Matt isn’t back for the Saints game we have zero chance of winning that game.

I just hope he isn’t done for the year. All I want for christmas is 9-7. What did this franchise do to deserve this much bad luck? That’s what I want to know.

After last year I wanted to write this season off.

I kinda wish I had, because it makes Sunday afternoons less perilous to my my immortal soul. I barely got upset at all during the Bobby Petrino debacle.

Here’s pulling for Matty Ice. The Redman will play fine for us in his absence/

Turf toe

I copied this from a toe web site Don’t Play Sports With Turf Toe:
Athletes diagnosed with turf toe should avoid their sport at least three weeks to allow the joint capsule to heal. Without doing so, the injury can progress, and can lead to an even longer recuperation. It is not uncommon for athletes to try to come back too soon, or to try to play through the injury. Unfortunately, this usually leads to a more chronic injury, and ultimately a longer recovery.

So basically...

8-8 is our destiny this year.

Excuse me while I go drown my sorrows.

I’m looking at this schedule and seeing 7-9 at best.

I don't know if he's alone thinking that

At this point, I’m lowering my expectations so that what follows will hopefully be a huge, happy surprise.

Great idea.

That way, I won’t continuously have heart attacks while the Heart Attack Birds flounder around for 59:40 and then take the lead. I’ll just expect nothing and when we when I’ll be more happy and not be heart-dead.

I say that alot.

Twice during last week’s game I would have changed the channel, but it would have meant getting the pieces and gluing the remote back together. So I suck around. $%^#ing complicated flatscreen TV!

I'm sure he's not alone in thinking that...

but I think it’s a bit pessimistic. I really think we can win at least two of the last three. We’ve had ups and downs this season, for sure. We just need to have a couple more ups!

by TomQ on Nov 30, 2009 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

Useful information

I’d rather we had him for the long-term….

Kind of sucks because I thought he might have a chance to progress further

I was looking forward to this homestand as a chance for Ryan to keep progressing and end the season with a bang. Unfortunately with him out his progression is stalled until he’s healthy.

Maybe we get him back for a couple more games, who knows.

Smitty also said the team would only carry 2 QBs Sunday

So JPW is our man if Redman gets nicked up? I like the kid, but say it ain’t so.

by tom slick on Nov 30, 2009 4:30 PM EST reply actions

Well maybe the o-line

will actually block some folks this week. That is wishful thinking, especially against the blitz happy Philly D, but hopefully the coaching staff will make the corrections needed to not give up 6 sacks again. I know Redman doesn’t have the release that Ryan has but 6 sacks is insane against that Tampa D.

I will literally start crying if we have to rely on JPW to carry us down the stretch. The kid has potential but he’s no Matt Ryan.

We're going to be hearing the words

“Trent” and “Cole” a lot on Sunday, unless there are big changes (park Justin Peelle outside of LT?). If something called “Stylez G. White” can get credit for 2.5 sacks, and the Bucs get 6 total, we’re in for a long day against the Eagles…

Maybe, but don't forget

They changed schemes this week. That means all the tape the Falcons had (from this year) practiced for was practically null and void. They basically threw an entirely new defense at us and we weren’t prepared for it, and rightfully so.

I don’t know. Trying to find justice in it, I suppose.

The Buc's D

played a great game – they were on fire. Credit is due, IMO.

Obviously, with their record, everyone assumes they a totally inept. Cliche, but any team can come out and have a good game on “any given Sunday.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2009 Atlanta Falcons secondary!

"Ryan, under center. Single receiver set, time on his side. Ryan, gonna throw. First professional pass.....CAUGHT!! Jenkins! 30! 25! 20! 15! 10! 5! He lives in Atlanta!!!"

So far so good for the Free Man.

He missed a couple of easy throws during that game, but made a couple of nice ones too. Our D did stink it up though…

I like to think of him as Gordon Freeman from Half-Life

And if I could do a decent Photoshop, I’d put him in the HEV suit.

We're on the same page...

Although if you could do a decent Photoshop, you should have him being eaten by an ant-lion.

by TomQ on Dec 2, 2009 9:11 AM EST up reply actions

I'm not disagreeing

But I think the change in scheme had a lot to do with it, now that I look back.

It would be like…..studying for a German test for a week and then walking into the exam room to find a Portuguese test. A very minute amount of it MIGHT make sense, but most of it’s going to be over your head.

It wasn't THAT different from what they were doing before

Yeah, they brought back a few plays of the old Tampa-2 look, but mostly it looked like press-man coverage with a single high safety, plenty of corner blitzes, etc. That’s pretty much what they were doing the week before when the Saints torched them (and I watched every sencond of that game, since I was stuck in LA with the in-laws for Thanksgiving week). Whether we want to admit it or not, there is a fundamental problem with our passing offense right now (I don’t have the answer to what that is, though).
