Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints Open Thread: Second Half

I wrote this before the game got very far along, but this is your second-half open thread. If we're winning, cheer some more! If we're losing, the second half will be better! If both teams have been abducted by aliens, Falcons win by default! I think.

Go to it!

Score with FGs: 20 to 28.

Score now 14-28. And Saints will likely be 35-14 before we get the ball back. I’m going to bed if Saints score again. Got work in the morning.

Cmon

Elam’s had some clutch kicks the last two years. That said, he blows tonight.

We gotta keep in mind that we still have some winnable games coming up (tho Carolina’s suddenly looking better, damn it) and better teams than us have been spanked by the Saints.

We still should be showing better on offense though. Need more Turner.

by FlyYouFalcons on Nov 2, 2009 10:26 PM EST reply actions

You have got

to be kidding. Elam is not the problem. Point out that Jenkins dropped a first and goal catch, that led to a missed field goal and NO scored on the the next series.

Elams pros definitely outweigh his cons.

He’s been in the league for a LONG time and he’s won more games for teams than he’s lost. Don’t forget, he won the game last year against Chicago that eventually led to ATL getting into the playoffs.

I mean, is it a deliberate move by the network? Are they thinking that it’ll improve their rankings, or is just that Ron and company are a bunch of followers?

A couple things

Dave, your Snelling over Turner meme is officially dead, please don’t start another one.

To all those who jumped on that bandwagon, please refrain from posting for at least two weeks after a each game, that way you won’t look as silly as this last time.

To our defensive back coach, I don’t know if it’s your coaching or a what, but fix it. I’m tired of watching our D-backs simply throwing a hand up instead of turning their heads around and jumping for the ball.

To all the Saints fans and the media machine, the Saints ain’t all that. Please stop kissing their @$$es.

Not pissed

Just frustrated is all. I was actually laughing when I typed it, especially about Dave’s meme. I just thought it was funny that Dave mentioned it and all of a sudden about 100 posts went up clamoring for Snelling over Turner, many by people who had never posted before. Sorry, it was really just an attempt at a running joke.

The rest though was a little more true to how I felt at the time I wrote it. Arm tackling, not getting your head turned around to face the ball, not even attempting to jump with the WR, etc. I’m just getting tired of seeing the same problems in the secondary each week, and even more so in a very winnable game like this one.

As for the Saints remark, well let’s just say I was tired of listening to ESPN verbally felate the Saints during the entire game. My wife even commented that she wondered if they even knew there was another team playing last night.

End of the day we can blame the refs, but it comes down to missed field goals and some poor execution. We could’ve had this and we didn’t. That hurts.

I’m going to go puke myself to sleep.

Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?

Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.

Good night to you all, gentlemen

I take great comfort in the fact that we took ’em to the final play of the game. Better than I dared hope.

Played hard

But this loss sucks. They toyed with us tonight. Haha. Off to a nice roll early. Turned them over twice, one going for a TD. Dang…so close. So close.

And Matt Ryan cost me my Fantasy matchup this week.

NEXT WEEK 5-3!!!!! Redskins really suck

I believe Matty Ice will have a huge day!!> And finally a breakout game for Michael “the Burner” Turner

by !AtlFalcons-fan! on Nov 3, 2009 12:19 AM EST reply actions

BUT WHY DID WE PASS IT ON 2ND AND GOAL.???

We should have ran turner again then passed IF we needed too!! damn we had them, if not for the pick 6 at the end of the half, which was clearly illegal contact or pass interference on roddy white!!! I guarantee we kick their butts IN atlanta!!!!

There is nothing to be ashamed of with this game

We showed a heck of a lot in the second half. TONS of teams would have folded after going down by two touchdowns into the second half. We didn’t. We came out and played tough, right down to the very end.

I love this team. They may not have won tonight, but they do not give up, and they play with heart. I am damn proud of this team, regardless of the outcome.

I am proud of them too..

There were a few bad calls in this game, but overall I think Atlanta played a good game, if we would’ve just held onto the ball and not turned it over, we would have beaten them. This team showed me a lot tonight,, they do belong with the top teams in the nfc. I GUARANTEE WE BEAT THEM IN OUR HOUSE!! The saints played their butts off tonight also. We’ll be 5-3 after next week!!!

LETS GO FALCONS!!

Player of the Game ; Coy Wire & Michael Turner

Turner sure made me eat my words last week, but I stand by them because I’m a results guy. I don’t even think we eve ran the ball when turner wasn’t on the field.

Another let down game by Ryan. 3 Picks…horrible pocket presence for most of the night…..ugh this one leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

As much as I hate on grimes and will still hate on grimes he had a nice play for the pick and also on the third and short stop.

It sure became apparent when in doubt Ryan glues in on Tony and doesn’t look anywhere else.

Defense played pretty good tonite. Its a shame with ALL the weapons we have they still couldn’t deliver.

Elam…….I was hoping we’d let Koenen kick em again I’m sure he still practices…

Elam – 6

Ryan’s 2/3 INT’s resulted in 14 points.

Sophmore slump award going to Ryan for this one.

One last question for Dave, if he's listening...

Is this (one of) the largest Falcoholic game threads ever (in terms of number of comments?)
I’m slightly medicated at the moment, but I can’t recall a game even close to this since I signed up pre-2008.

by tom slick on Nov 3, 2009 12:35 AM EST reply actions

This is the biggest one we've ever had

Considering we had two comment threads that totaled about 1,500. We’re growing up!
