Big Blue View answers your questions about the Giants

Good Morning Everyone,

Jim here from Big Blue View, and we're ready to take your questions on the Giants heading into this week's game. With the Eagles and Cowboys losing yesterday, the Giants can bring themselves back into the race with a win over your Falcons. Should be a fun game, both teams need this one bad. Weather is not expected to be a factor, which probably benefits the Giants as well as the Falcons, based on Eli's troubles throwing in the wind.

Ok, fire away!

How will your defense prioritize the Falcons’ attack. We’re probably going to be missing Michael Turner.

For the Giants, it all starts up front. If the defensive line isn’t getting pressure, it exposes the linebacking core for what they ultimately are, which is mediocre. The Giants should have Aaron Ross back at corner, which will help tremendously, they like to use him on blitzes as well.

To follow

I was a big fan of Clint Sintim going into the draft. Has he had any kind of impact for you guys yet?

Not as of yet, he’s been limited by a groin (what guy hasn’t?), but he has shown flashes when he has been on the field. With any luck he will be a starter next year.

Can y'all lose on purpose?

OK. Thanks.

Um, we’ve been losing on purpose for 4 weeks, quite frankly I’ve had enough of it

So

how many times are you going to burn Chris Houston on sunday?? 15, 20? You can do it as amny times as Manning wants to throw that way. Also, when you see that weak ass zone coverage, the middle is wide open. the secondary likes to stand still when in zone coverage. Movign is not allowed. Please feel free to pick us apart at will. then there is the run defense… really? do we have one anymore? um nah! We suck big time. Enjoy beating us over the head repeatedly on Sunday.

So I should list you as “Falcon Optimist”? 7 games to go, don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater just yet.

We've had that problem too at times

For some reason, our DC was calling an insane amount of zone blitzes, having our pass rushers cover tight ends, and our weak links be responsible for tons of space.

Once we started phasing it out, we’ve been so much better on defense

On 3rd down, throw it to Smith.

Manningham: Boom, bust, or hard to tell?

I have him on my Fantasy team and he’s been up/down/up/down all season. I think he’s got good improvement potential though.

you probably picked him up early in the season

when he had that one big game. I remember telling a friend, “That’ll be his top statistical game all year.” My best guess is he’ll pick up maybe 2-3 TDs the rest of the way. There is potential for another breakout game, but the Giants play some decent defenses along the way. Frankly there are probably better options out there.
Oh and when you drop him he’ll get all 3 of those TDs in one day and you’ll hate me.

Manningham

he’s explosive, but he seems to lose focus and has a bad case of the dropsies. I like him, but he’s not a reliable #2. Luckily it looks like Smith and rookie Hakeem Nicks are going to be our top 2 receivers for a while, so Manningham can slide into the #3 spot and do a pretty good job

For the sake of discussion...

If you were the Falcons how would you attack the Giants? We won’t use your info in our game plan! Promise…

Blitz all day ...

No offense, but Eli has really struggled where the pressure has been relentless. Basically anything we can do to keep Eli from establishing a rhythm will work.

If that means Smitty needs to run on the field in a Scream mask on and a fake machete, then so be it.

Definitely blitz

Our OL’s been underachieving, and with his foot, Eli hasn’t looked all too great on third down.

As for defense, try throwing it at our safeties. They are our weakest link, and while Rouse doesn’t seem to be as crappy as CC Brown (who’ll you’ll remember got schooled by dree brees back so long ago), its still our weakest link. Also, run at Antonio Pierce. He’s the quarterback of our defense, but he can’t shed a blocker for his life

the Giants

have been shredded by good QBs throwing the mid-to-long range passes over the middle. Zone blitz has left us with Giant expanses of free real estate all over the place. Unless the Giants were reborn during the bye, expect 1 or 2 50+ yard TD passes from Matt Ryan.

You play to win the game!

Questions

1) How has Michael Boley looked lately? I know he was hurt and/or suspended early…

2) Was Aaron Rouse any better against the Chargers than CC Brown was the previous weeks? He couldn’t be any worse, that’s for sure.

3) Somebody needs to tell Justin Tuck he needs to film a new Subway commercial Sunday. He needs to take Osi with him, too. OK, serious question – is Tuck back to 100% now? How is his shoulder injury?

4) Is Brandon Jacobs all the way back from his early season slump?

Answers

1) According to Yahoo Sports, he’s been in for 4 games, but its felt like a lot less than that.
However, when he’s been on the field, he’s been electric. He is by far our most athletic linebacker, and he is crucial for our defense to go back to new york giants, domination defense

2) I didn’t hear his name called, so yeah, I’d take it as a good sign. Part of it is the change in schemes. With CC, for some reason we’d be calling tons of zone blitzes that would leave CC in pass coverage (something he sucks at) while having our corners be in some zone. It really exploited CC, and took away from what he is good at, which is making big hits and run support.
For some idiotic reason, our nickel formation vs the Eagles was with Rouse, Johnson, and Brown, our three worst cover DBs, instead of using another corner.

3) Yeah, the commercial is pretty terrible.
I don’t know about his shoulder. Most Giant players hate giving excuses for their performances, so I t think we won’t really know how bad/good his shoulder is until the end of the season. The bye week can’t hurt though.

4) Definitely. The last 3-4 games he’s been running like the Juggernaut we know and love. The only problem is he hasn’t been getting enough touches. 11 carries against the chargers, and with Bradshaw’s injury, we’d hope they increase his workload. Give him 20 touches, and I’ll guarantee he’ll have a hundred yard game.
