Southern hospitality...
Hello all,
This Saturday, I'll be hopping on a plane and crossing the Pond to visit your part of the world - a road-trip with some friends around Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama, culminating in watching the Bears game at the Georgia Dome on Sunday 18th. I am, of course, ridiculously excited about this.
I've been in touch with tloz and he has been extremely generous with his time and given me lots of good advice. But as he is busy getting married this week, I thought maybe some of you guys could help me out with a little last-minute local knowledge...
So:
- The 49ers game on Sunday 11th: we're likely to be somewhere between Chattanooga and Knoxville, TN. Does anyone know of a good bar in the area that might be showing the mighty Falcons?
- We have the following activities planned: Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchberg; Dollywood; country music in Nashville; blues in Memphis; Gibson guitar factory; Graceland. Any other must-sees? We'll be coming back from Memphis via Birmingham...
- We get back to Atlanta on Saturday 17th. Where should we hang out that night?
- Sunday 18th - GAME DAY! I'm hoping to meet up with tloz at some point and have a day of Atlanta-based fun. Are any of you guys in town and/or going to the game? Or do you have any suggestions for cool stuff to do?

I'll be in NY for the Giants game.
After I have finished my final High School exams. Going to be intense!

I'm old and married
and live in the burbs now but back in the day it wasn’t a saturday night in Atlanta without live music and my favorites were Smiths Old Bar on Piedmont and Monroe and the Star Bar in L5P. In 1995 you’d have had a great time in either place.

He's from across the pond
It might as well still be 1995 over there.

Surely you mean "1895"
If you’ll excuse me, I just need to go and give the chimney sweep a good thrashing.

Thanks, zooker
I might give them a look. If they’re still good, I’ll let you know.

To check for the 49ers game on TV
you may want to consult the TV coverage map about 2-3 days before the game, it can be very useful on the road. Say ‘hi’ to Elvis, have fun!

Cheers, Tom
I will definitely check that out next week. And of course, I will pass on your regards to The King.

Hey dude, sneaking onto the computer for just a moment.
Email me this Thursday and we’ll plan out our pre-game stuff. Can’t be too expensive (read: do the aquarium, world of coke, etc BEFORE we meet). I’ll give you my cell number and we’ll get things arranged.
You have opinions. We all do. Some of yours may have to do with the Falcons. Sign up today and share them.

This
I was going to say that the best idea would be to hit up all the spots that are close to the Dome, like the Aquarium and World of Coke. You can always hit up a Taco Mac for the sports bar stuff or go to the CNN Center and get all premium beers for the same price.
If you want a place with one of the largest selections of alcohol, beer or spirits, and imo one of the best burgers in town, then check out The Vortex.
The Varsity is also an iconic Atlanta drive-in, but it’s not as close to the Dome. If you dig old-school R&B, then you could always go to Gladys Knights Chicken and Waffles and maybe get her autograph. Underground Atlanta has a ton of shopping stores, bars, and places to eat, and is a good place to check out the night life in the A.
Also, I would highly suggest checking out Stone Mountain if you had the time. Maybe it’s just the kid in me, but I still love that place and the Laser Show is still the best.
Anyway, those are just some ideas. If you are planning to meet up with TLOZ or someone else, I’m sure they can direct to any of those places as well as many others.

Yay for beer!
Looks like the brewery tours don’t run on Sundays though, unfortunately. But I will keep an eye out for Sweetwater in the (many) bars we visit though.

if your in chattanooga
just go to downtown chatt right off of I-24 like martin luther dr or market st they have taco mac, buffalo wild wings, etc.(right near the tenn aquarium) i would go to Big River if you go to downtown or if you want head toward hamilton place mall (go I-24 toward Ga then I-75 north) and find Ross(its not in hamilton place but a outlet mall near it) department store and go to Fox and Hound, its a sports bar with great beer specials and lots of tvs. I live in North Ga about 20 minutes from Tenn line which is basically Chattanooga so if you have any other questions let me know, I’ll be in the Orange Lot tailgating around 11 or so until the game, tloz knows me and i’ll be wearing the Falcoholics tshirt so come on by.

Dowtown ATL
in Atlanta if you cant go to the game there is a Taco Mac at CNN center and then there is Stats on Marietta street. Or, you can go to buckhead and go to the ESPNZone.
