Atlanta's Red Zone Defense
Football Outsiders' Doug Farrar has an article called Cover-3 where he investigates players or units that were interesting from the previous week of action. This time he details Atlanta's Red Zone DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average), and describes Chicago's final drive, and the Falcons game-ending stop.
Also included this week is analysis of Saints LT Jermon Bushrod, and the matchup of Jared Allen vs. Michael Oher.

Uneasy with success
I hope the Falcons can keep this amazing Red Zone stuff up, but I’m a little dubious. They’re 26th in yards per rush (4.7) and 12th in yards per pass (6.5). My cynical, evil twin tells me that this generosity in yardage could easily catch up with them.

Agreed
The “Bend, but don’t Break” defense can only bend so far…

I'm feeling skittish
I think to some degree our awesome red zone performance and overall record have obscured the fact that we cannot possibly go a whole season doing this unreasonably well in scoring defense if we continue to give up these kind of yards. I agree with tom.

Less open field, less mistakes...
The young DBs play better having everything in front of them, and not having to worry about the deep pass…
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.
