Vote In The Fan's Choice Hall Of Fame Poll!

Okay, so technically these results are not going to get anyone elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Nonetheless, how awesome would it be if we pushed a couple of former Atlanta Falcons up to the top of the list?

I'm talking about the Van Heusen Pro Football Hall of Fame Fan's Choice (quite a mouthful, but we're not done yet) sponsored by JCPenny (okay, now we're done), which features a few Falcons among its choices. The winners will be announced on the NFL Network shortly before the actual Hall of Fame results are announced, but this is a real opportunity to highlight some guys who may otherwise not even register on voters' lists.

The guy I'm specifically highlighting here is OT Mike Kenn, who started every game of his 17 year career with the Atlanta Falcons. He made five consecutive Pro Bowls in the early-to-mid 1980's and played parts of three decades in Atlanta, where he was easily one of the best linemen in our history and frankly, one of the better tackles ever to play in the NFL. The guy has never really gotten the due he deserves, like a handful of other Falcons, and I think that it would be a good thing for him to be recognized in some way. Guys like Chris Doleman, Clay Matthews and a certain ol' coach named Dan Reeves could stand to get some dap, as well.

So if you've got the time and inclination, pop over to the link above and consider voting for a Falcon or two. Especially Kenn.

Claude Humphrey, baby.

Already a senior candidate, he’s bound to eventually make it in. Regardless, it needs to happen NOW. Let’s get a fan push in there for him!

Humphrey's right up there with Kenn, in my book

Claude, with Nobis, were cornerstones of our D for a long time. Kenn was awesome, and for all those years; he almost never got beaten or penalized.

And wouldn’t they look snappy getting inducted in Van Heusen shirts from JCPenney!

Yeah

Claude deserves it for sure. Even if he did majorly diss Atlanta after going to Philly.

I don't understand

How in the world they picked who was available to vote… Yes, Dermontti Dawson probably deserves a vote, but why is he on the list, but not Mick Tingelhoff? Why is Cornelius Bennett in there, but Chris Hanburger is not, even though Hanburger seems easily more qualified? Why no Claude Humphrey?

Well, I think Offensive Linemen are severely under-represented in the HOF, so I decided to vote for 3-4 of them before I even looked at other positions. Guys like Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith are shoo-ins, so I tried to skip the obvious ones, too. If there was a spot that was close, I went with the guy from a team that seemed under-represented. I went off stats/Pro Bowls/All-Pro selections (with help from P-F-R’s Career AV), because I wasn’t around for (or don’t remember) most of these guys careers – maybe some guys that can remember the ‘70s and early ’80s can tell me if I’m way off. Here’s my seven, and why:
1) OL – Mike Kenn (LT – ATL). Probably the most qualified O-Lineman on the list, plus he’s a Falcon. Easy.
2) OL – Dermontti Dawson (Center – PIT). It’s not like the HOF needs another Steeler, but 7 Pro Bowls and 6 First Team All-Pro’s is hard to argue.
3) OL – Steve Wisniewski (Guard – LA/OAK Raiders). I wanted at least one Tackle, Center, and Guard. He’s the most qualified Guard, with 8 PB’s and 2 1-AP’s.
4) OL – Lomas Brown (LT – DET, plus others). 7 PB and 1 1-AP. One of the last guys I decided to vote for. Virtually tied in my mind with a few I didn’t vote for, so I gave the nod to another O-Lineman.
5) DL – John Randle (DT/DE – MIN, plus SEA). Six straight years of First Team All-Pro (7 PB’s total). He seems like a no-brainer.
6) LB – Rickey Jackson (LB – Saints, plus 49ers). Six Pro Bowls (somehow never was a 1-AP). The Saints – like the Falcons – don’t have anybody in the HOF that spent the majority of their career with their team.
7) QB – Ken Anderson (QB – CIN). He is far and away the best QB not in the HOF, and probably better than several that are already in. He always comes out near the top of the list when stats guys convert numbers to “modern” passing stats, to compare all-time greats. Of course, he’s got the fewest votes of all the QB’s so far. Ridiculous.

Here’s the guys that just missed the cut for me:
1) Coach – Dan Reeves
2) DL – Chris Doleman
3) DL – Cortez Kennedy
4) DB – Aeneas Williams
5) LB – Hardy Nickerson

Yes, I just wasted way too much time thinking about this – but it was fun. So there.

TY for posting.

Interesting site that I did not know about.

I had to vote Sabol – for all those NFL films contributions )

You're right

Ed Sabol absolutely deserves to be in the HOF. I didn’t notice him in there before. I’m going to have to drop somebody from my seven and add him in, if I vote again.
