Atlanta Falcons @ San Francisco 49ers Open Thread

It's time to get back in the saddle, this time against a tough defensive team that would like very much to prove it's a contender. Sound familiar?

It's been a crazy week around The Falcoholic, so I apologize for the lack of a couple of familiar features. The important thing is that we're here today to (hopefully) witness a good game where the Falcons keep pace with the New Orleans Saints. In order to keep up in a competitive NFC playoff race (and yes, I know it's early), we better start piling those wins up early. Let's hope for 3-1.

See you guys in the game thread. May the Falcons kick butt!

Who? Atlanta Falcons and San Fransisco 49ers, 4:05 p.m.

Where? Candlestick Park ,San Fransisco, California

Weather? Sunny with a chance of Niners fans flooding the field with their tears.

Fun Fact? For the really young Falcons fans on this site, the Niners were once a hated division rival who made our lives miserable for quite a long time. What makes this fact fun, of course, is if we destroy them on Sunday and return the favor.

Injuries? Hat tip to the Official Site for their report. Jason Elam and Jerious Norwood are probable and virtual locks to play, while special teamer Antoine Harris is out. Hopefully we won't miss him too much for one game. The biggest names on the Niners end are Frank Gore (who's out) and LB Marques Harris (who is questionable).

Odds? San Fransisco over Atlanta 2.5, O/U 40.5

Foe? The talented Fooch and his merry band of trash talkers will be discussing the game over at Niners Nation. Be good sports if you head that way.

GO FALCONS! Let's give these Niners fool's gold!

No Saints game = hangin' out with the Falcons

Today I had a tough decision of which crappy fantasy qb to play. I’m carrying Matty Ice (who is good in real life football but not in fantasy) and Sanchez the Sanchize. Sanchez laid an egg for me last week—thankfully because I wanted him to lose. But today I’m saying Hola to mi amigo Sanchez once again. Should I just drop Matty Ice?

About the game today: I have no idea! The 49ers are insane! Up and down. Who knows what to expect. But I do think the Falcons can stop the 49ers offense….and the Falcons’s offense is good enough to put up some points. I expect it to be a low scoring field goal fest with the Falcons steadily pulling away.

Forty Niners have one great defense and will test Atlanta.

But they will miss Gore and Crabtree I think.

Keys for Atlanta :
Slow down Coffee
Target Gonzo
Keep running Burner
Involve Norwood
Force turnovers

I predict a hard fought 21 to 17 win by the Falcons

Damnit!

The one time I cheer for the ATL (due to my beloved Saints being on bye week and Falconer being awesome) the stupid cable network doesn’t even give me the game. Unreal.

Ugh

stupid early game coverage. Giants/Raiders?. NFL really needs to talk to the networks about which games they decide to show.

What about Redskins/Panthers, or Bengals/Ravens? Even the Cowboys against the Chiefs would be more fun than this.

I need a better tv package.

by Bronn on Oct 11, 2009 1:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

haha

whats funnier is that raider fans in oakland get the game blocked out unless the raiders sell all there tickets…..haha al davis is killing his franchise fast.

Yeah these early games are terrible.

I’m getting Giants-Raiders in New York, Raiders are atrociously bad. At least I get the Falcons on TV for the first time all year.

Good luck guys, I hope we have a good game and no one gets hurt. War wolf shouldnt plan on too many turn overs by the 9ers (we rarely turn it over).

The O is reverting to those bizarre playcalls again. Lucky Norwood didn’t get hurt, looking at the replay.

by tom slick on Oct 11, 2009 4:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Not bizarre, just conservative

They knew they weren’t likely to get the 25 yrds there, so they try to sneak in a few safe yards and kick it away.

by Cracker! on Oct 11, 2009 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The thing is

We have the ability to take a strike and get 25 yards. If you go that far and you whiff, you can still punt it, minus the yard or so you picked up on the ground. We have to start going for those.

Singletarty's Pants

Remember that one time last year he dropped his pants in the locker room to show the team how they were getting their butts kicked? He could very well drop his pants then go #2 right there in the locker room this week.

I had the oppertunity to scoop a fumble in one of my games earlier this week,

but after seeing two defenders running at the ball from the other team, I decided to dive on it.
The coach made a joke about me popping the ball while watching film…

If Ryan comes out, who plays QB?

Does someone have to be hurt for Wilson to play, or does it have to be Redman?

Has to be Redman

JPW’s inactive, so he can’t come in unless there’s an injury.
