Sun may set on #56
He's been through it all in his eleven year career; the "Dirty Bird" days, the departure of Taylor Smith, Reeves, and Mora, and a number of forgettable seasons. He has piled up at least nine-hundred tackles, and represented us in Hawaii five times. But there is no hiding it anymore; his days in Atlanta might be numbered.
Living out here in Sacramento, it can be difficult to follow how well the defensive players play on since I have to get most of my info second hand (through Sports Center, Falcoholic, etc). I admit, I was in a state of denial when some say when Brooking was in decline, at least until I saw Tavaris Jackson slip away easily from him, avoiding that easy sack. Then, as we all saw, got the bad end of a Stephen Spatch highlight catch cause well, he was somewhere else.
To add salt to the wound, this came up in Adam Schefter's NFL.com blog link
For many like me, it can be very painful to see their favorite players decline right before their eyes. Sadly, Brooking may not be able to be there when Matty Ice, Turner, Smitty, and everyone else (hopefully someday) hold up the trophy. But what happened in Arizona will not tarnish all what he has done for the team, and the city of Atlanta. I see nobody wearing #56 in the future as he will be in the Ring of Honor, cause he will have my 100+ votes.

Honestly
I don’t see why he didn’t go out with the old guard last year.
"The nice thing about supporting a bedraggled-cum-decent team? Watching all those analysts eat their words."
I get it
They wanted to let him try and play in his natural position. Moreover, the “old guard” went bye-bye ‘cause of attitude issues. He needs to go, but to be fair, his weaknesses were never as apparent as they are now. In other words, he sucks now, but he didn’t suck before now.

He can't keep up.
He never “sucked.” Remember the glory days when he and Kerney ruled the defense? Yeah, where’s PK now? Sucking in Seattle. Brooking’s sucking in Atlanta. The era’s over. Let’s move on.

I said "he didn't suck before now"
But he sucks now … I remember Kerney/Brooking back in the day.

What was that?
The Falcons needed to stop 3rd and long to give Matty Ice a chance to win the game? And low and behold there is a wide open tight end! Why is that you say? Brooking bit on a flabshinazgitting playfake to cover the running back underneith. Sure cover the guy who is going to be tackled well short of the first down! That is the spirit.
Granted we had a great season, and I’m sorry to see it end, but i was of the opinion of that Brooking could still play. That is until I saw him make a mistake that someone who plays Highschool ball would make.
Thank you Brooking for a great career. Please do one of two things (A) retire, or (B) take a backseat role and mentor our young linebackers.
If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother.

Cant we?
Just sign him to a minimum contract or something? Like he’d be a great backup and also a veteran. I just don’t want Brooking to go anywhere else.
Ideally yes
But will he accept that? Dude has to feed his family, and I don’t think he’ll be jobless next fall regardless.

He won't retire. Oh, and he probably won't take a lesser role either.
So be on him being gone. I love him, I respect him, but good luck and goodbye.

I agree, Retire
I just saw him previewing the Arizona/Carolina game. I think he knows his time in the NFL is short and he is priming himself to move on. He could leave on a great note from the team where he has spent many good years.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.
