Pioli to the Chiefs: Time to Panic?
I don't know if everybody has heard, but Scott Pioli is leaving New England to take the GM position with Kansas City. Now, I realize that on the surface, this affects the Falcons in absolutely no way whatsoever. Up until a few minutes ago, my thinking went "Hey, him leaving will hurt the Patriots, which means that everybody else wins!" I was enjoying myself at the expense of the Pats until my dad dropped this one on me-"I hope the Patriots don't throw the bank at Dimitroff." My mood changed instantly. With his success this past season, he must look awfully attractive to the team that we got him from.
So please, talk me off the ledge. He wouldn't really bolt to go back to New England, would he?

Absolutely NOT
His rep would take a huuuuuuuuuuuge hit. He doesn’t want that.

Naw
The Patriots always promote from within. They’re too stubborn and proud to bring in anybody from the outside, and I can’t see that changing anytime soon.
He’s not going back.
Dimitroff still needs his Falcons Super Bowl ring.
And I don’t expect him to leave before he gets it.

I think everyone is forgetting why Pioli isn't in NE anymore....
Belichick. If your going to be a GM in NE you don’t get final say in personnel matters. If the Patriots were going to give anyone that right, they would have offered it to Pioli to keep him. I’m sure that little point would matter greatly in any decision Dimitrioff would make (not that he or the Patriots are even considering it). A previous scouting specialist, now GM, giving up final say over who to draft? Doesn’t make much sense IMHO.
The Falcons are an organization on the way up. The Patriots, while they are not necessarily on the way down or anything like that, have certainly plateaued. Plus prior to the past couple of seasons with the arrival of Moss, Welker, and others, the Pats have been known for being cheap skates, where as Mr.Blank enjoys spending cash somewhat more freely.
Speaking of the Comrade...
I walked into Woodfire Grill tonight. About to be seated, looked to my left and sure enough there was Comrade Dimitrov having diner. We made eye contact for a second. I think he thought I was someone else but then when the huge giddy grin appeared on my face I think he realized that I was a drooling fan and kind of looked away.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.
No
He knew it was you from The Falcoholic. He was like…“Is that, no it can’t be! …Runningback…Should I ask for his advice?…No he’ll get angry I interrupted.”
I have an interview with the Falcons organization next week.
I hope that, should Mr. Blank or Mr. Dimitroff be in on the interview, I don’t go all giddy-fan on them.

BAH!
Enough w/ the vague references, are you going to hold a football-related position w/ the Falcons?

Nein. Nyet. Non.
Not football related, more of a “oil for the gears of the machine” type job.

I once rode an elevator w/ Rich McCay
My cousin was dating a Falcons cheerleader for a while and we got to park in the player’s lot. Aside from all the Bentleys, etc., I was “lucky” enough to find myself on an elevator w/ McCay.
At the time (this was in ’05), I thought to myself, “I should really tell him to be careful about that Ron Mexico fellow.” Damn you [my name] … damn you.
