Brett Favre

I had dream last night that Brett Favre unretired to play for the Falcons.  I woke up thinking it was crazy, but then tought about it a little more.

From what I hear, he is itching to come back to play and in fact has already contacted the Packers about this.  Apparently they are in no hurry to welcome him back though.  There has been chatter about him playing for the Panthers but they have already said "not interested".  Why the Panthers?  Location, location, location!

What other teams are not so far away from Favre's Mississippi home?  Hmm.......

Remember this was just a crazy dream I had last night and thought it would for interesting convo.  How about it?  How would everyone feel about Favre "coming home" to the team that drafted him to play for a year while Matty Ice learns from the best?

Intriguing thought

Assuming the un-retirement stories are true, a lot of fans would LOVE to see Favre come full circle back to Atlanta. The media would love it. Blank would love the PR value.

The obstacles are worth considering, though. Is the aging Favre willing to (likely) get beaten up behind a poor OL? Will he do it at a big discount? I doubt the Falcons would or could pay him the $11M he made last year.

My biggest concern is with Favre’s attitude. Remember all the public agonizing he did, for years, before he retired? Now, he changes his mind with no apparent concern for the team that kindly accommodated his vacillating all those years. I don’t think first-rounder Aaron Rodgers has been sitting on the Packers’ bench for 3 years, by design!

Is Favre going to treat his next employer with the same level of consideration? If history repeats itself, he may be quite a distraction. Tarzan say… “Brett care about one man. Brett.”

honestly

if we get favre, he will make everyone better. starting with the receivers and seeing as roddy whtie is already good, who knows what could happen. robinson has a lot of promise as well. matt ryan would become greater as well, because favres the best there ever was. and who knows it might make the line play better knowing they are protecting a legend. i say do it, theres greater chance for success than disaster if you sign him.

I don't want him

As I see it, this isn’t a championship caliber team. We would, ideally, like to get Matt Ryan a few reps late in the season if things aren’t going well. How do you think he’s going to like the idea of sitting for our future quarterback? I’m guessing there’ll be some media sniping and histrionics.

Not saying that he wouldn’t be an upgrade for this team, because of course he would. A lot depends on whether he’s ready to leave his prom dress on the bench and play football with his mouth closed, especially if he’s getting knocked to the ground a lot behind a patchwork offensive line.

For the money, I think I’d probably pass.

Agreed

Not that having Favre would be a bad thing, I just think that this team doesn’t need him. Sure, we would be better, but not enough to warrant that kind of circus. I think it’s best if all involved move on and let the Legend be exactly that.

Favre would want to play for a contender

That us? Hmm…I might think so, but he’d probably disagree.

Maybe not

I’m not so sure that he would care at this point, if the rumors end up beign true and he really does want back in. GB has pretty much shut the door on that part of their franchise and have completely geared up for the Rodgers experience what with all of the PR events they have been parading him through. And every other true ‘contender’ has an estalished star at the QB position; Romo, Manning, Brady, Manning Lite, etc. I would think that he is in touch with reality enough to know that if he has a shot at playing again it will definitely be with a team in dire need of QB stability and talent. Sounds much more realistic now.

Although he does still owe GB two more years. But who says they couldn’t work out some nice trade involving future picks and unborn sons?

I went to school in Wisco

Believe me, Favre wasn’t hesitant about voicing his displeasure when GB wasn’t doing well. Maybe he would play for the Falcons. I just don’t think he’s that desperate.

Interesting Development

I heard that the Bears and the Vikings are showing interest in his services. The one that is most intriguing is the Vikes. A team that I feel is a decent QB away from making a serious run deep into the playoffs. The have the most explosive 2 RB combo in Peterson/Taylor they have a pretty devastating defense that by the way added the leagues leading sacker in Jared Allen and they made a HUGE upgrade at WR by adding Bernard Berrian. The only weak spot is Tarvaris Jackson at QB.

Call me crazy, but if by some miracle Favre lands with the Vikes I say that they immediately become a serious contender in the NFC and could become one of those trendy Super Bowl sleeper picks.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.

Brett Favre

Hello all you optimists…. Trust me when I say that this will NEVER happen. The rumor mill had it that Favre was always in Glanville’s and Jones’ doghouse because he was out partying every night and was always hung over, hence him sticking around for only one season.

Of course, he’s a lot older and more mature, but he is not going to come out of retirement and play behind a suspect OL for a team in the BEGINNING of the biggest rebuilding program the NFL has ever seen. Let’s face it folks, we are about like an expansion team right now and there isn’t anything one draft and a new coaching staff can dod about it. The good news is that we play in the weakest division in football and we should be able to get a few wins inside of it, plus we will have a shot at some out of division games, but do not be alarmed by us possibly going 3-13 or 4-12, it could easily happen, but as long as we field a competitive team, unlike last year, we can call it a success.

Obviously

He isn’t coming to town, which is why I prefaced it with the fact that it was an actual dream I had the night before.

I have to agree with your summation that we are not unlike an expansion team an trust me, my expectations on how many W’s we put up are pretty low. I can say this though, underdogs are always fun to watch. Even if we are the worst team in the league that just means that every team we face has WAY more to lose than just a game.

You know what they say about when an animal gets cornered…......
