Doug Datish Victim Of Shallownomics
Remember Doug Datish? He was the slightly undersized lineman who looked like a promising reserve for Bobby Petrino's Falcons last year before he went and broke himself in half. Or something. I don't remember.
Now that the team wants a bunch of big ol' linemen, the recovering Datish is on his way out. With the huge Butterworth and the comparatively tiny Datish out the door, the Falcons cut a couple guys who probably could've provided depth on the offensive line. Given that it isn't exactly a strong part of the team, I'm a little puzzled by the decisions this team has been making.
Who is emerging to fill their spots?

Where's the beef?
Dude, the beef is already on the roster. The problem is that we don’t know if it’s hamburger or filet mignon. But we’ve got some big guys:
Sam Baker 6’5" 312 lbs.
D’Anthony Batiste 6’4" 313 lbs.
Justin Blalock 6’4" 333 lbs.
Tyson Clabo 6’6" 332 lbs.
Harvey Dahl 6’5" 308 lbs.
Kynan Forney 6’3" 302 lbs.
Renardo Foster 6’7" 340 lbs.
Todd McClure 6’1" 301 lbs.
Pat McCoy 6’5" 333 lbs.
Quinn Ojinnaka 6’5" 305 lbs.
Terrance Pennington 6’7" 315 lbs.
Alex Stepanovich 6’4" 296 lbs.
Todd Weiner 6’4" 300 lbs.
Weiner is the only guy that’s not young, but he’s the only guy who’s started more than a handful of games too.
So I have no idea if they’ll be able to find 7 keepers from this bunch, but there’s plenty of “big uglies” from which to choose.

Glad you posted that list
There’s some obvious value on that line, but many of these guys would be organizational depth on any other team (and probably still will be on ours.) Stepanovich, Pennington, and Batiste will likely be the first to go, while guys like McCoy and Foster (who are, as you noted, titanic) have a better shot of sticking around.
I just think Datish-little as he may be-and Butterworth would’ve been interesting projects to keep around.

Datish I could take or leave
He was going to be depth, so I don’t think we’ll regret getting rid of him. Butterworth on the other hand. If Foster is the Titanic, Butterworth is a continent. We should have kept him. If anything, we could have threatened the other rookies (say that he’ll sit on them).

You need size in today's game
But it’s for naught if you don’t have good technique and footwork. It’s hard to believe that a competent staff would toss him aside so quickly, without reason. Butterworth must have some kind of major flaw in his game (at least in the Falcons’ eyes).

O-Line
We have the beef. Now we need the coaching, which I am confident we have. The key will be whether or not Blank will let the coaches coach. If that is the case we WILL surprise a lot of people this season. But I am sadden that Butterworth was released. If he keeps his head up, he will be a real good lineman in this league; so will Datish(OSU).
O-Line Starters:
LT: Baker
LG: Blalock
C: McClure
RG: Clabo
RT: Weiner
O-Line Reserves:
Foster (He could end up starting)
Dahl
McCoy
Forney
