Falcons Finally Cut Jimmy Williams
I don't have a lot to say that hasn't been said already. Jimmy Williams went from promising cornerback to promising safety to promising player for another team. This coaching staff hasn't been shy about getting rid of guys who don't buy into the philosophy, and Williams clearly did not. I wish him well with another franchise, but he's going to need a major attitude adjustment first.
Might've been nice if they could've gotten something back for him, but I suppose the price of a new football keeps going up.
This changes the dynamics of the safety corps, obviously. Daren Stone is less likely to get canned for the drunk driving allegations after this, and Erik Coleman is pretty much a lock to keep his starting job at free safety. More than likely, Thomas DeCoud will get a real chance to back him up there.
Thoughts on the unkind cut?

Eh
Not a bad move. I always got the sense that he was borderline phoning it in. The couple times I went to see practice he seemed a bit sloth-ish to me. Not that he didn’t want to be there, but certainly a level of indifference.
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face.

He had it coming
By most accounts, he didn’t seem to care about his job. A smart team won’t let that kind of attitude linger, so Fat Boy has only himself to blame. He made the decision for the Falcons.
I, for one, do not particularly wish him well. Though he was obviously a poor pick (thanks McKay & Mora), his attitude sucked out loud. Let him try to earn the kind of money he was making with another team, now. Fat chance!
Daren Stone should send him a thank-you card. God, I hope we don’t draft any more Hokies for a while!

Does this finally end the Va. Tech pipeline?
I can only hope. So far, those players have been nothing but trouble for the Falcons. I can only hope the front office uses this experience as a learning tool, and avoids Frank Beamer’s program like the plague after this. Hell, as a Dawg fan, I’d even be happy if Comrade D went with more picks from our local Tech instead (provided they are within reason. As much of a fan of Georgia that I am, I’m amazingly perplexed by the team’s picks from Georgia recently). I don’t know if I could put up with another loud mouthed under-performing player from the Hokies.

Smart decision. Doesn’t fit in with what the Falcons are trying to do in the future.

i dont know why they drafted em. i never had him rated that high as a corner myself. that year they drafted williams in the second round also moving up ten spots to get in. and then get grimes as an undrafted free agent. where are they now. williams cut and grimes about to be one of the best youve ever seen. i hate to say it, not really though, I TOLD EM SO.
