Daren Stone Busted For DUI
Here comes the bad news train!
I'm a big fan of Daren Stone's on the field talent, and I've found myself questioning why he isn't getting any mention when he has a physical skillset at safety that rivals Brent Grimes. Not only will the news of his arrest for DUI probably remove him from the running for a starting job, it may well get his butt kicked right off the team. Unlike Boley, Stone doesn't have the established history of gobbling up opposing offensive players to fall back on. It may sound unfair to characterize it this way, but Stone is less likely to get a free pass because he's less important to the team.
Obviously, I'm disappointed that Stone was in this position in the first place. This team really, really doesn't need any more off-the-field incidents, and Stone has possibly damaged his career. Just not a good situation for a guy who I really thought had a chance of starting at strong safety during some point in the year.
I'm just glad this wasn't a lot worse, because it could've been.

Personally
At this point I really don’t care. It’s a simple DUI, no one got hurt, and he’ll more than likely get fined. I say leave it at that and put his butt to work in practice a little harder than normal. Really, can we afford to lose any player with what little depth we have overall in the talent department?
I guess I am just so down about Atlanta pro sports teams right now that kicking a player off the team is starting to look more like a hindrance to the progression of the team, rather than helping the tam out. The hawks resign Woodson for another two years, so that one is doomed. The Thrashers are owned by the same idiots, so it’s a goner. And the Braves, well, seriously, could anything else happen to make it any harder on those guys? I’m currently looking to the Falcons for some form of hope that things are at the bottom of the barrell and have no where to go but up.
Which I suppose has pushed me to the point where I no longer care what these guys do, so long as they play and perform come Sunday, and obviously so long as it doesn’t involve physical harm to man or beast.

To expand
Sorry for being so sour, just a lot of depressing news lately for ATL sports.
In all reality, we do have decent depth at that position so I don’t think his loss is something to worry about too much. Maybe his release, if that happens, will help keep the rest in check. Probably not though.

make way for decoud
i liked stone as well, but with this little dui he might have screwed himself over. i know the coaches like decoud and they drafted him for a reason so looks like this gives them another reason to play him over stone, lets hope decouds got some skills.

D Stone
I’ve known Daren for quite some time now.. We go back to high school running track against each other. Great guy, hard working dedicated. I think he may have been caught in a tough spot. But to cut someone I don’t know if that’s helping them deal with there issue. Maybe there is something underlying that he may need help to deal with. Some issues he needs to address. Or it could just be a sign of lack in judgement. Either way there are far more things for this league and society to worry about. Fans expect players to live a perfect life. I would like to turn the microscope on the fans who sneak out of work, lie on taxes, cheat the system daily but those are the ones who call for a players head after they make a mistake.

I'm not calling for his head
But I think that realistically, this team is a lot less tolerant of off-the-field transgressions. I’m hoping Stone puts this behind him and gets a chance to play well (which, in my opinion, he obviously can), but until they cut Jimmy Williams I wasn’t sure if they’d keep him around. Looks a lot more likely, now.
Still, it’s definitely a mistake he’s made, and I hope he’ll own up to that and let this be the one mistake of his career. From what you’re saying, sounds like it (hopefully) will be.
