Career Poll
In the early returns Ryan is expected to have a career that falls somewhere between that of Troy Aikman and Steve Bartkowski. Considering Ryan’s fat rookie contract I hope his career resembles Aikman’s career just a bit more than Bartkowski’s (no disrespect to Bartkowski).

I hope he has a career like that one dude. You know, the starting QB from Boston College last year, Matt Ryan.

Ryan > Bartkowski
Since the Bartkowki comparison is leading the poll let me ask you this question: Would you consider Matt Ryan a worthwhile draft pick if his career was at least as good as Steve Bartkowski? If not, what more would he have to accomplish? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Bartkowski’s 11 year record as a Falcon: 123-W & 121-L, 154-TD & 141-INT, Comp-56.2%, Passer Rating-76, Pro Bowls-2, Playoffs 1-W & 2-L

Bartkowski
The Dallas Cowboy’s picked Bartkowski first (overall) in the 1975 draft. Who did the Falcons pass up to get Bartkowski? A defensive tackle out of the U of Maryland named Randy White (he was picked second by the Cowboys). Bartkowski was rookie of the year in ‘75 and White ended up being moved to middle linebacker and played as a backup for two years. So basically Bartkowski enjoyed more immediate success (even though White ended up being a ridiculously scary all pro defensive linemen for most of the 80s). Let’s hope this scenario plays out with another QB/defensive tackle duo (that shall go unnamed) that teams recently had to decide between.

Bart
I love what Bartkowski did for the lowly Falcons in the 70s & 80s, but this franchise needs Ryan to accomplish even more. If Ryan’s career parallels Bart’s I won’t be mad, but this team and it’s fans need to believe we can become perennial playoff contenders. A winning tradition has never been established and until that happens we will never be satisfied with random moments of success.
