To still make the Wildcard

could the Falcons (8-5) still make the Wildcard if we win our last three games?

Now, as it stands, the Cowboys (8-5) and Carolina (9-3) hold the two Wildcard spots in the NFC with all the other hopeful teams having 7 wins or less.  If Tampa Bay were to win in Carolina and Carolina was to lose to the Giants and Atlanta won the last three games this season, wouldn't we win the tie breaker over Carolina with a 3-3 division record?

Is it in any way wrong to still be hopeful of this Falcons team that has soared above and beyond all reasonable expectations?

7th place in NFC

Falcons can win a wild card spot with help, absolutely!
Nothing wrong with hoping, we’re fans. That’s our job.

We need to beat Dallas by one game

If they go 2-1, we have to go 3-0. If they go 1-2, we have to go 2-1.

My understanding

Is between us and Dallas we are essentially tied, since the tiebreaker #2 is conference record, and we sit at 5-4 now (after NO loss) and they sit at 6-4. We play 3 conference games on the way out and they play 2.

Next tiebreaker is common opponents which I believe is (correct me if I’m wrong), TB, STL, PHI and GB. Our record against those teams is currently 1-2 with TB and STL games still to come and Dallas’ record is 3-1 with a PHI game still to go. This one looks a lot worse so I think conference record is going to be big.

Once again, if we had won yesterday we would have such a serious advantage going forward up one game with a 6-3 to 6-4 lead on the conference tiebreaker. So frustrating. I think this game may come back to haunt us and keep us out. I still have hope but it is going to be really tough to recover from this one.

interesting

yahoo sports playoff scenario generator has us predicted to take 6th place with a 10-6 record (which is really nice to see after a season predicted to end in misery)

Yea they have Dallas losing to NYG and BAL going 1-2 and us going 2-1 losing to Tampa. Even though Dallas is our immediate competition, I am EXTREMELY happy that Washington lost last night to keep them at 7 wins, only helps our chances, and I am also really happy now about that Eagles/Bengals tie that keeps Philly at 7 wins right now.

We need a big helping of luck

Not saying we can’t get it, but just saying it’s not entirely in our hands. Winning out the rest of the season would take care of the Falcons’ end, though.

Dallas has Owens

The falcons will make it to the playoffs because our schedule is not as tough as the cowboys. They have to play the giants who own them. Also, the cancer T.O is going to continue to be a B and will keep his team from the playoffs.

Actually

if we win out our conference record gets better by 3-0. if dallas wins out it only gains 2-0.
I think that evens the conference records if i remember right. what then becomes the tiebreaker?
