Slow Reaction To The Atlanta Falcons' Loss
Boo.
There's a lot to discuss here, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to put in an 11 hour day at the office, so I'm going to use this as the unofficial follow thread. Hopefully I'll be alive enough to put up a postgame thread tomorrow morning.
Talk amongst yourselves!

I told my girlfriend
after the falcons anhialated the Lions in the opening game that I would cry if the Falcons saw the playoffs this year and I’m not an emotional guy
Regardless of if we make it to the wild card at this point, it’s been a phenomenal season that has reinspired my faith in the Atlanta Falcons and how can you not look forward to Smitty’s sensational “process” to continue to unfold?
Ideally though – I would like to see the Falcons win out the remainder of the season. If Carolina loses to Tampa Bay and then again to the Giants wouldn’t we go to the Wildcard over them?

Sorry to sound negative
but the Falcons deserved to lose that game. You can’t let any team run on you the way the Saints did today, and expect to win. We’re lucky the game was as close as it was.
As long as they learn from the experience, we should turn the page and get ready for Tampa (with a massively pissed-off attitude). Don’t forget where we were a year ago, and be thankful for what we have. I’m still optimistic about our long-term future. Go Falcons!

You don't sound negative ...
They ABSOLUTELY deserved to lose that game. On the one hand, I’m happy they aren’t going to have a losing season, have shown considerable progress in only a year’s time, etc.
But GOSH DARNIT … it’d be so nice to see them make a playoff run!

Yea we deserved to lose, but no one told Matty Ice. Dude was playing his heart out. If only the D could have gotten even one late stop we would be 9-4.
One fortunate thing is the late Dallas loss to Pitt so we remain at least tied for the last wildcard spot. Winning would have put us in such good shape though…augh, oh well. Such an incredibly frustrating loss.

Ryan's pick
was the only blemish on a superb day. If you took away his INT, his passer rating would have been an incredible 112.6 instead of a ‘measly’ 99.9.
All the more reason not to agonize over one game. Keep this kid healthy and this franchise’s day in the Sun is coming, sooner than we think.

but that .1 point on his passer rating
is what could have been what ultimately cost the game
The Falcons are 6-0 (I think) when Matt Ryan has higher than a 100 passer rating
at the same time, that pick might be the key that put the chip on his shoulder that made him perform to the “I gotta make up for this” level that he did

Me too
I would start doin backflips if they make a run.
Sadly for now though until next sunday, Drew and Pierre are going to give me some very horrible nightmares.

I'd chalked NO down as a loss anyway
NO was one of two games I’d predicted the Falcons to lose down the stretch (the other at Minn). I think their run defense was an abberation based on their determination to stop the pass, and in the process they got a little more than they expected. Let’s face it, the NFC East teams play out of their minds at home.
However, I now look for the Falcons to win out the rest of the way (no way they lose at Minn) and finish 11-5, and it’s hard for me to believe that wouldn’t get them into the playoffs.
I’ll tell you what . . . Ryan and the Falcons receivers have really developed a beautiful chemistry. It brings a tear to my eye when I see them moving the ball through the air like they did on Sunday. I have total confidence that they’ve reached the point where, if the running game gets shut down, they can win through the air.

I didn't write it off as a loss
I recognized it as the hardest game we had left this season, but in no way did I write it off as a loss. It is still aggrevating that we lost because the defense failed to perform… how are you going to let two throwing offenses (Denver and NO) catch you off guard with the run game? The defense failed to step up. You can blame Matt Ryan for the gift wrapped turnover in the first quarter, but I think that pick is what put the chip on his shoulder that fueled his performance through the remainder of the game (he’s just that kind of guy) – it didn’t help that special teams didn’t step up when we needed them to most either.
tough loss, but we aren’t out of it yet – Go every team that gets to play the cowboys!
