Ask Canal Street Chronicles!

Good morning Falcon fans!!

It is almost time for the Saints and Falcons to kick it off for the second time this year. This time its on our turf and the outcome is going to be drastically different.

Actually, I can't promise that. But I can promise that I am here to answer any questions you guys might have about the Saints and the Falcons upcoming match-up with them. I am sure a few of my readers from Da Chronic will be over to help me answer your queries and maybe a little good natured trash talk.

So fire away!

Will home Dome advantage

factor in during the game? Do you feel the fans have the volume to disrupt Ryan’s reads/changes before the snap?

Also, how are the (assumed) losses of Will Smith, Deuce, and Charles Grant going to affect the game offensively and defensively for the Saints?

Not very much, apparently. GO LAWYERS!

Shockey

What is your opinion on Jeremy Shockey so far? It’s hard for me to see the media keep tagging him and many others as a “Giants won without him” afterthought.

Suspensions

Since the Saints are all but out of the playoffs for this year – is it just assumed that the suspended Saints will take the punishment and sit out the remaining games?

Bush

Any word on if he is back to full strength? How cautious have the Saints been in using him since his return from injury?

more on suspensions

I am more interested in how the local fans feel about the suspensions. I have a hard time understanding how papaya is something that can cause a bigger suspension than someone caught red handed on a cocaine possession. Doesn’t seem fair to me and i am not a Saints fan.

How's it feel to be the bottom of the bunch?

I don’t mean to rub it in … ‘cause you already know you’re last in the NFC south. But seriously, how frustrating is this for NO fans? 6-6 ain’t bad in the NFL and you wouldn’t be in last place in some divisions. It’s gotta be getting to you. Especially since most commentators have written off your playoff chances. Thoughts?

State of the rivalry

Our two teams have been in the same division since 1970, but I don’t get the sense of rivalry that I used to in years past. Do you get that feeling on your side, or is it just me?

I did a little research and found that our two teams have had simultaneous winning seasons, only TWICE in franchise history (2002 and 1991)! It seems intuitive to me, that it would be hard to sustain a healthy level of hate between such frequently mediocre teams. Cheers!

I second this question.

But you know, tom, I think we Saints and Falcons fans can pull together in our utter distaste for all things Buccaneers. Personally, I’d rather see the Saints winning than the Bucs and Panthers.

1978 season, Falcons beat the Saints in both games on the last play of the game;

Nov 12: 1 hail mary 57 yard pass

Nov 26: A disputed interference penalty in the endzone on the next to last play (even Commissioner Rozelle admitted it was a bullshit call) gave the Falcons first and goal for a game ending TD pass.

These 2 wins for the Falcons put them in the playoffs, and kept the Saints and Archie Manning out of them in his best season with the franchise.

Us old guys don’t forget. But I still seem to dislike the Bucs and Panthers more than you Falcons.

What’s that?.. uh…PLAYoffs? Don’t talk about…Playoffs? You kiddin’ me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a GAME.

Big Ben right

That long TD will always be one of my favorite Falcons memories. Tipped up in the air and then caught and run in for the score as I recall. The rivalry was a lot more palpable back then.

There’s a lot of hate around for the Bucs here, Panthers not so much. Good luck to youse guys after this weekend.

Myself

I have never felt the kind of rivalry against the Saints that i have felt against the Bucs.

Apparently

Homeboy doesn’t want to answer our questions. Where’s he at Dave?

The po' boy

probably has to WORK for a living, imagine that! He was quite good about posting replies last game, I’m sure he’ll get back to us.

I'm sure he'll show soon

If not, I’m going to make fun of the Saints.

Like I do already.

Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
