Got Questions for the Arizona Cardinals?

Playoffs?!? You wanna talk about Playoffs?!?

First, congratulations to the Atlanta Falcons and all of their fans. I'm sure that no one had the Falcons and Cardinals matched up the playoffs back in training camp, but here we are.

So with that being said, here I am, RedBirds to the SB from Revenge of the Birds, to answer all of your questions concerning the Arizona Cardinals. I'm not football expert but I'll give it to you straight so fire away. Wondering about Warner's ability to turn the ball over? Wondering if Fitz and Boldin really are the best thing since sliced bread? You can learn all that and more, right here.

I'm sure some other ROTBers will migrate over and join in some convo so let's all get the playoff juices flowing.

Guess I'll start it off

First of all, congrats on the season. Us fans of long suffering teams gotta stick together.

The thing that is most on my mind is Boldin. Obviously, he is one of the best in the league. The combination of he and Fitzgerald is tough for any team to handle, but they could really wreak havoc on the Falcons secondary. However, I see that he didn’t practice at all last week. Was he just being held out as a precaution, or is his injury severe enough that he could be hindered come Saturday? Also, are there any other injuries on y’alls end that are of particular concern?

injury situation and Q

Boldin’s status the past couple of weeks has been a big issue and Q answered questions today with this nice little quote:

“Uh, I mean, if anybody thinks I’m going to miss this game, they’re not too bright,” he said. “If my arm was broke, I’d be out there. I ain’t missing this one.”

Needless to say, he’ll play. The reports last week said that he could have played if the game actually meant anything and that they were just being “smart” by sitting him out during practice. As far as the rest of the injury report, Travis Laboy has sat out the past couple of games and his status should be much like Boldin’s. As far as we know today, there aren’t any other big names that are in jeopardy of missing the game but we’ll know more after practice tomorrow.

I heard Leinart has had chronic gingivitis

… hence his “hindered” development. Any thoughts on how that may limit his ability to contribute during the postseason and beyond?

Leinart’s contributions in the postseason will be limited to holding a clipboard and wearing a ball cap backwards, so I don’t think the gingivitis should affect him. As for the future, when he’s the starter I’d imagine a mouthpiece would cover up any problems with his grill.

Warner has the tendency to put the ball on the turf...

so how has the OL blocked for him so far? Abe is a beast and should have plenty of rest before this one. Got problems with speed rushers?

Would like to say i know our two fanbases are just happy to still be playing.

Also one more… The last couple of weeks it looks as if ya’ll are just happy getting to the playoffs, and no real fire or anything. That concern you?

KW does lay the ball on the turf with the best of them and he’s done his share this year as well. Most of his problems come from speed rushers off the edge. He can normally beat the blitz b/c he’s seen just about everything a defense can throw at him. With Abraham being so good, I’d hope that they give Mike Gandy some help. You’d think that that’s a given but they left him all alone with Jared Allen a couple of weeks ago.

You probably hit the nail on the head with that final statement. They’ve played pretty lackluster and looked like a team that was very content with winning the division. I doubt they come out with that same lackadaisical attitude with so much on the line though. This team knows what’s at stake and I’ll think they’ll give the Falcons they’re best shot.

Biggest PERCEIVED weakness

In your eyes … watch should we be worried about?

I’m guessing that your talking about the Cardinals biggest perceived weakness and if so, I’d say their inability to have a balanced offense. They’ve been killed by a poor running game all year and when opposing defenses can focus solely on the pass, they have struggled. With that being said, the Cardinals passing game is still the biggest ‘worry’ for the Falcons. There is simply no answer for Fitz and Q.

Falcon's defense tends to do well

when they have “one” main attack route to focus on from an opposing offense – so with our primary focus being the pass, we should do well…. The defense performed well against New Orleans when our primary focus was their pass, we did well against Denvers pass but not their run because that was what we were prepared for… we put a hurt on the Vikings running game because that was our primary focus, they only really got big yards when they let Jackson get loose.

Best of luck to you guys in Arizona… I just hope our luck is better

LB in coverage

The teams that have been successful have been the teams with a D-line that can get to Warner without assistance and free up the linebackers to cause trouble in the back field. If your D-line can do that then you may be able to slow down our pass game.

I think it will be a very close game

Falcons are 4-1 on the road against all teams outside division. Cardinals are 3-2 at home against teams outside division. Similar opponents goes ATL 3-2 and ARZ 2-3.

You guys should head over there

I feel this week will be filled with lots of spirited debate/discussion on Saturday’s game. I won’t be able to talk the ish tomorrow, though. Downtown all day for the GT game and preceding festivities.

Whoops

I followed a link in the original post and thought that was the place for discussion. So I’ve been posting on the Cardinals’ board. Oh well.

Fantasy Football Question

Who starts at QB next season — Warner or Leinart?

And does the answer depend on how well the Cardinals do in the playoffs? Does a trip to the NFC Championship for Arizona mean Leinart is doomed to the bench?

by Skeller on Dec 30, 2008 8:36 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's truly up in the air.

You will know come draft day. Warner’s contract is up so he will either be our starter, retired, or starting for another team.

by badmatty53 on Dec 31, 2008 2:52 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yep

If Warner does resign, it’s very possible that the starter could be in question until the final preseason game just like this season.
