Atlanta Falcons vs. St. Louis Rams Open Thread
St. Louis Rams at Atlanta Falcons, Dec 28, 2008 1:00 PM EST
Massive computer issues here, so consider this the least formal open thread of all time.
With a win here and a lot of luck elsewhere, the Falcons could be looking at one of the highest seeds in the NFC Playoffs. Chew on that for a few, and root, root, root for the Dome team!
Go to it!

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

Rams lead 7-3
their RB Jackson did all the work on that drive. Maybe that will be a wake up call for the D; they didn’t play well at all there.
I hope so
They seem to be giving way too much cushion.

Good luck on these two games today, hope they go well :)

Thanks!
I’m a hardcore baseball fan, i’ve always only just watched football, and this year since the falcons are good I’m kinda intrested.

Has been completely useless for weeks now. Fine with me if that continues today.
Yes
and a few more yards for Roddy. Also, no punt return yards.. I really want us to break those records.

Steven Jackson
I knew he’d give us fits, but the Falcons look lax and disinterested out there. Maybe they’re not that interested in the division after all.
I think this time
It really is hard to get a young team like this to keep their eyes on this game. With the playoffs coming up, it’s gotta be hard to get excited for the Rams.
Woot!!
There’s the shot down the field i wanted. Go Jenkins!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; if everyone performs like this after getting a new contract, it’s time to ink Michael Boley right now.

YESSSSS!
Michael Turner stuffs it in, 10-7 Falcons. This is the most glorious day in the history of…aw, forget it.
Could be
if carolina wasn’t winning in New Orleans
You KNOW the Falcons are watching the scoreboard...
It’ll be interesting to see how they respond, now that they’re basically playing for pride.
That should be enough
This team needs to keep its momentum going and give Matt Ryan some more confidence. I’m a little skittish about the way they’ve been playing the last three or four weeks, despite some truly impressive wins.
agreed
also, the falcons have yet to win 3 games in a row this season. i know that is on their milestone list.

Playoff ramifications...
If Carolina and the Falcons both win, we’re the #5 seed and play Arizona.
If the Falcons lose and the Cowboys win, we’re the #6 seed and play the NFC North winner (MIN or CHI).
(According to the AJC)
Norword!!

Norwood returns the KO to the 7
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him get caught from behind. 92 yard return!!!
He's still a little slowed up from that injury
Of course, for Norwood, that’s like taking the Millenium Falcon out of hyperspace.
Too dorky?

17-14 Falcons
Norwood gets 6 from the Wildcat formation, nice that he got to score the points after that return. Way to answer the Rams TD, men!
At the half
We’re knee deep in a close game with the St. Louis Rams. The Rams, incidentally, want coach Jim Haslett back next year despite the fact that he reeks of mediocrity. Way to get better!

My favorite scene in that movie, bar none
Is when he keeps running toward the castle, they cut to the guards looking bored, he starts from the same place and runs again. I nearly bust a gut every time I see it.

When the game shows on TV in oregon i run from back room of the house to the PC in the Front room. This is a long thin Trailer. I feel like i do a marathn of hurddles

No Christmas generosity for the Rams
We SHOULD crush these guys. A big win would be affirming of what we can accomplish.
Fudge should have gotten the fumble call
The replay sure made that call look bad. Now the first down on the fake punt makes the call look hugely crappy.

I was listening to the game on the drive back
Seems like Jackson has been ripping up the defense today. At least the running game’s not too much of a concern if we play the Cards next week.
http://hobnailboot.blogspot.com/
It says something for our franchise
That after a quick look at the numbers, I do believe Matt Ryan is having a Top 15 season. Maybe better.

definitely needs to put some more points on the board though.

Memories, ahhh
They just showed the Super Bowl team doing the Dirty Bird after beating Minnesota with Dan Reeves struggling to keep up. Everyone forgets he had open heart surgery during the season that year and came back.
http://hobnailboot.blogspot.com/
Reeves' angioplasty
was kind of a galvanizing force at the end of that year. Didn’t he come back just in time for the first playoff game that year against San Francisco?
I believe so
I think I saw the ESPN Classic version of the NFC Championship and he came back right before the playoffs started. I think it had only been two or three weeks since his surgery, which is ridiculous b/c normally you can’t do anything until after six weeks.
http://hobnailboot.blogspot.com/
Reeves
Loved that guy, stand-up dude always. The game may have passed him by (as it did Shula and Landry) but he’s a true icon of the game.
Agreed
I know we’ve got a good situation now, but I still firmly believe the downturn of this franchise was directly correlated with the firing of Dan Reeves after 2003. Of all the great things that Arthur Blank has done for the city and this franchise, that’s the one that still bugs me. I thought it was a little shortsighted.
http://hobnailboot.blogspot.com/
finally got a decent internet feed of the game

Punt Return yard record
Falcons can only allow 3 yards in punt returns to break the record.
Fair catch on Koenen’s punt, keep it up…
Rams are driving
At our 35, that’s got to be close to FG range. Hate the way we’re letting them stay in the game.

Carolina/NO Update
6:27 left in 4th Q, NO ball, 3&29 at Carolina 29.

Quality stop
Our defense is the WWII Russian Army of NFL teams. They let us get driven to the brink before they push back.
It sort of breaks down and becomes insensitive at that point
I realized afterward that I probably could’ve chosen a less historically ghastly metaphor. My bad.
Hah
That wasn’t really my intent. Just putting it in the perspective of the massive loss before ultimate victory.
