What I Learned: ATL vs NO
So I had to watch this game in the "Pocket Place Bar" between bowling rolls at a state tourney in Birmingham today. I bowled admirably, posting a 689 series and (possibly) earning a shot at the $1500 first place prize. Around the fourth quarter mark, a multitude of Tennessee fans raided the bar and turned the channel to TEN @ CHI. I had no power to stop them. Thankfully, the game was being recorded at home...
What I learned today:
- The Falcons should no longer be considered by the Main Stream Media (MSM) an "iffy" team. Atlanta has shown that they can play sixty minutes of football and come away with a win. Oh boy do I wish we had had a challenge in the Eagles game. We'd probably be 7-2 instead of 6-3. Oh well.
- The NFC East is not the strongest division. Three 6 win teams are battling it out for the NFC South lead. That says something about us.
- Foxworth was a good idea.
- Jackson was a very good idea. How about that pick-six?
- The Falcons can win in this division. I feel the upcoming Carolina game is going to be a different story than the previous one. The maturation the team has seen over the past three games is phenomenal and should make the rematch a much better game.
- The Falcons are a team. There are three major standouts, but week after week we are seeing different team members stepping up. Today, it was Jackson and Foxworth showing up on the radar alongside the ever-present Abe, Ryan, and White.
Wow, what a win guys. I'm pumped. Now let's de-hoof those Broncos!

and Norwood
and when he was hot-dog high stepping & they were griping I was thinking for the love of all that is holy, he played for the ATLANTA FALCONS last year. Let him high -step!! At least there is something to hot dog about!!

I thought it was funny
as long as he scored. You KNOW he’s catching all sorts of good-natured crap from his teammates this week!
Aside from the hot-dogging, that play was freakin’ electric, perhaps the best of the game. The coaches have done a great job getting Norwood the ball on the go, in open space, where he has few peers.

4 Picks
Delhomme gave up 4 interceptions, so that bodes well for us.

Depth
To your point about this being a TEAM, what impresses me is the depth they are demonstrating team-wide. Much has been made about the way they’re keeping Abraham fresh, but the coaches really seem to be doing a good job across the board. I feel like this team is staying pretty fresh for the whole game.

Welcome to the site!
I agree that there’s very few players who aren’t getting involved on a week-to-week basis. I still think David Irons could be a decent corner in this league, but why mess with success at this moment.

Once again, awesome
I almost get teary eyed with what the team is bringing to the table right now. Ryan is money. White is money. Jenkins is also somehow becoming semi-money just because Ryan is a badass. He only really made one bad throw that should have been picked but it wasn’t. Turner churned up the yards but maybe didn’t quite break loose, but when you have that run/pass mix right now Matty Ice can just pick teams apart.
I almost hate to raise any concerns after yet another great win, but the defense troubles me a little bit in that second half/fourth quarter. Granted, the picks were awesome, but imagine the situation in the game if we had not been able to get all those interceptions. Our late game defense was giving NO everything they wanted on those late drives and almost seemed like a completely different defense from the one in the first half. If there’s one thing I would like to see is a stronger late game effort, as even though we were up two scores, one TD plus an onside kick gives them a shot. It seemed like the defensive intensity went down a bit late there.
Abraham was awesome once again though, and for the first 3 quarters the defense was lights out, and great CB play on those INTs. If we could only get that challenge against the Eagles and give Matty a shot at the game winning drive there, we could certainly be 7-2.
I certainly think the Carolina game will be a different story than last time. One thing I didn’t understand was all the national media was referring to the Falcons sucking in divisional games, but in reality the two divisional games were within the first 4 weeks of the season and were Matty’s first two road games ever in the NFL. I think we get Carolina back in the Dome and we will smack them down. The Bucs too.

For real . . .
Yesterday was my 2nd game at the dome this season (and I’m taking my 10-year old son to see the Broncos this weekend), and I’ll say that I’ve gotten teary-eyed more than once at these new birds.
I read somewhere that the current coaching staff contains 188 years of NFL experience — it shows! I’m amazed not only at the display of young talent but also at the young LEADERSHIP.
They are a team of players who understand their roles on the TEAM, and they are playing to those roles incredibly well. Major props to the coaches for simplifying each players games to their individual roles and strengths.
I’ve been a Falcons fan my whole life, and there is just no better feeling in the fall than to feel good about the birds!
