The Grits Blitz was the brainchild of Jerry Glanville, in Leeman Bennett’s first year as head coach. That 1977 team was the one that set the defensive scoring record for a 14-game season, allowing only 129 points all year. Unless the league shortens the season, that record will stand forever!
