John Abraham Likely To Suit Up For Falcons
The Falcons pass rush probably won't be missing its only effective pass rusher against the San Diego Chargers, which can only help us in our quest to make Phillip Rivers take root in the turf. Abraham's recent nagging injuries have been worrisome and I'm not sure he'll be 100% this weekend, but we're going to need him if we're to have any chance of survival out there.
Here's the topic for discussion today: can the Falcons get at least three sacks against the Chargers? After this week's game, I've decided that's the minimum number we'll need to rattle a decent quarterback.

If we get the refs from the Denver game....
Then no we won’t get 3 because the refs permanently swallowed their whistles on holding Abraham in that one. Otherwise I think we have a good shot. Call me crazy but I really really think SD is going to underestimate us and expect to blow us out as we are still not getting much props as a contender around the league beyond talking heads saying that snowballs is a good rookie QB. I think we can turn their cockiness into pure incineration of Qualcomm via the touchdown vampire, who will be looking for revenge no doubt.

sacks and chargers
The chances of getting any sacks vs. SD is only about 10%. Their offensive line is very good. Definitely one of the top 5 in the league and Rivers has only been sacked 16 times all year.
When you think of SD think of New Orleans except better. They have a better O line, better receivers, better RB’s and a QB just as good. The reason they don’t win is because the coach is one of the dummer ones in the league. He’s very conservative in his play calling and he tries to get the ball too much to LT. (The fact that they overrated LT is the reason we got “The Burner”). Whereas they should be giving those touches to the real sparkplug (Darren Sproles). But with this being a “must win or you’re out of the running” type game for SD you can expect a very tough game. For Atlanta to win they must control the ball and the clock, make a lot of 1st downs and score TD’s in the red zone. Matt has to outplay Rivers.

Mark my Words
We’ll get to Rivers.

Hmm ...
I have to disagree w/ the “10 percent” figure you threw out. Abe (if he plays) will be going against Marcus McNeil (former first rounder/Auburn Tiger/GA prep player). The dude is huge (6’9 wingspan/340 lbs), but his size works against him. This is because he tends to get upright, which hinders his ability to move laterally. Plus he’s naturally suited to play on the right side of the line. But the Chargers have him playing LT. I personally think Abe can tear him up. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but those are my thoughts.

One more thing ...
“For Atlanta to win they must control the ball and the clock, make a lot of 1st downs and score TD’s in the red zone.”
I am VERY impressed w/ your breakdown of Sunday’s game (insert sarcasm). Sounds like you have it figured out. Ever think of giving coaching a shot?

Welcome to the site
And please keep in mind that Andy Reid still has a job, and he’s been drawing his gameplans up on McDonald’s wrappers for the last three years.

3 sacks? Tall order.
Agree that the hat trick is a low percentage bet against SD’s fine O-line, especially with #55 banged up. If Abraham can get a couple, maybe Chauncey or Jamal can get one. Rivers is a tough kid, too.

We won't need sacks
Mike Turner is going to make those people pay. They wouldn’t show him respect with carries, they disrespected the man by not paying him his money, so now he’s going to make them pay in another way: with a big fat L that drops them to 8 losses and out of the playoff picture.
They shoulda gave that man his money. Now he’s mad and he’s going to show LT who the star is now. He’s got LT beat by 318 yards and 7 TDs this year.

Disrespect? Come on.
San Diego made a business decision not to pay big money to 2 different RBs, and stuck with the proven, known player. 90% of teams in their position would have done the same thing. That’s not disrespect, and Turner acknowledged that when the Falcons signed him. He’s a grown man and knows that’s how things work in the real world; he has said that he harbors no grudges and is happy that Atlanta have him his chance.
That said, I also hope he runs wild and makes SD look like a bunch of freakin’ idiots! Of course, Turner will have no problem getting motivated, but the Chargers are no pushovers. Their 7 losses have only been by a total of 28 points, and they’ve beaten the Jets and Patriots. Their defense is 15th in rushing yards (Falcons 21st) and 17th in rushing yds/play (Falcons 29th). Overconfidence is a hideous bitch of a trap, but I think our Birds will avoid it this week. Go Falcons!

You're Both Right
Tron5000 may be a little off by saying that Burner felt “disrespected.” But … come on, you know Burner grew somewhat anxious, etc. while getting VERY little playing time behind LT. I don’t think he dislikes LT or the Chargers, but sure he wants to prove something. Any player in his position would feel the same way. Bottom line (and the point I think Tron5000 was really trying to make): This game is significant for Burner, maybe more so than any other game so far. He’ll come out w/ fire under his belly, I’m sure of it.

I was illustrating a point
Point is, they let him walk away. Yes, he was behind LT, but he never was given a chance to show what he could do. Now he’s been given that chance, and he’s going to show the Chargers what he’s all about. Any time a player goes up against a former team that let him walk (especially the first such game) he’s going to go out there with something to prove. And prove it I believe he will.

Get the drool bucket ready
for Turner, he’s got to be chomping at the bit. By Sunday he’ll probably be salivating like a wild dog running down a wounded antelope. Cheers!

Turner will do just fine
I expect Matt Ryan to be hounded a bit more than usual by a pretty good Chargers front seven, but with motivation and a middling run defense by his side, Turner oughta get his 100.
