Can we please postpone the Matt Ryan Love-Fest?

He has only played 6 games in the NFL..... He is 15th in the league for passing yards, Joint 15th for TD's and 17th for passer rating.... He arrived from Boston College expected to lose every game/sit on the bench this season and help the Atlanta Falcons rebuild. Who is this? Matt Ryan? Oh him! Wow... i thought he was the Tom Brady guy?!

Lets face it, the expectations for Matt Ryan were low. So to be 4-2 going into the bye week is a great situation to be in and nobody is happier about our start than me. But, using a specific choice of language, it is our start, not Ryan's. There are 52 other players on the roster all playing above expectations resulting in that winning record. Michael Turner has played a massive role in where we find ourselves. John Abraham is a possible pro bowler this year and is beating double teams to lead the league in sacks. Roddy White is 2nd in the league in Receiving yards, but more importantly all the receivers are catching the balls Ryan is throwing and making him who he is.

We were here a few years ago with a certain Mr. Vick and i can't stand here while people make the same mistakes. No QB is better than the rest of his team. The only person who comes close...

Matt Ryan is not Tom Brady. The difference? 219 games. 2208 Completions. 25,302 passing yards. 192 passing TD's.

Is it normal to hail a QB and compare them to one of the best ever before he has thrown 100 completions

I think not.

Yes...

However I think what this team needs is for the defense to stand the test of time, get turnovers. Our defense is young and a turnover here or there can result in big wins.

Matt certainly has played out of his skin to this point and I think Philly is where the rookie title will come racing back to his persona. The Bears are great don’t get me wrong but Philly are a better team despite the Bears beating Philly earlier this year (Westbrook and his backup were injured?).

So I don’t think you can compare him with other future hall of famers, however I do believe you can’t completly reject how well he has played and some of the mature things he has done to this point.

Here's the deal:

Ryan is the first competent and promising quarterback that the Falcons have had since…ever. The reason the receivers are catching the ball is because Matt’s getting it there to them. Just look at the dropped passes that killed us a few weeks ago. The balls were thrown perfectly. It was the receivers that flubbed the catches, not the QB. Ryan did his job. White, Jennings, Jenkins are all good catchers but couldn’t catch a badly thrown ball. No good receiver could. Matt is throwing the ball well, on time and target. Mr. Vick would’ve just ran with the ball before ever thinking to throw it. In Ryan, we have the true blue NFL winning QB: pocket passer that will do what he has to in order to get the first down. Matt throws it away when he has to. He runs for the first down when he has to. He throws the ball for the catch when he has to. Yes, his numbers aren’t that great, but even at 15th in the league, that’s saying something. That’s 15 out of how many? 32? 64? Not a bad spot to be in for a first-year QB.

What we (may) have on our hands here is a franchise quarterback to make up for the loss of Brett Favre and the heinous blunder of Mike Vick (who, let’s face it, was a mediocre QB even on his A game). We (hopefully) have our Peyton Manning, our Tom Brady, our Brett Favre in Mr. Ryan.

Yes, it’s early. Entirely too early to call Ryan “the next best QB ever.” But it’s entirely time for the talent-deprived Falcons fans to celebrate a wonderful draft choice by a team that has had more draft busts and free-agency mishandles than winning seasons.

Its about expectations also

There is not one person who thought that before this season started, Ryan would have those kinds of statistics and would have lead the Falcons to a 4-2 record. Nobody. Not Mike Smith, not Arthur Blank, and probably not any member of the Ryan family. He is playing much better than even the most optimistic fan could have hoped for. Of course the “OMG next Brady” stuff is premature, but thats the way the media works. If everything isnt the best of all time or the worst ever, nobody reads your column/listens to your show/whatever. No matter how much hyperbole is attached, all that matters is Ryan is showing ability we were praying he might show in three or four years, not after six games. It is ok to be excited.

Yea I don’t really buy into any sort of Brady comparisons, but I think everyone should be excited about what the guy has shown so far. The throw at the end of the game against Chicago was mega-clutch, and he at least looks like he is a guy who can be here for a long time and help us win. I don’t think comparing him to Brady or Manning makes sense yet, but that still doesn’t mean we can’t be pumped up about what he’s doing.

Something to keep in mind...

The Brady comparisons came from Lawyer Milloy.

If you don’t think it’s appropriate to make the comparison, tell Milloy. FWIW, I’m pretty sure the point he was making that the leadership and mental toolbox were set up much in the same way Tom Brady’s are.

Dear Matt Ryan: I owe you a HUGE apology. I'm sorry. Love, iRonin.

...
