Atlanta Falcons Bye Week Comes At A Bad Time

01falcon_medium

via blog.mlive.com

That falcon is also considering just what to do with his bye week.

With the Falcons at 4-2, brimming with confidence and gumption and other long words, this is not the time for the Falcons to have basically nothing to do for a week. I don't buy into momentum as much as many fans do, but the Falcons are undeniably on a roll right now. It seems a shame that they've got so much twiddling of thumbs ahead of them.

So I turn to you, dear readers. What should the Falcons do during the bye week? Heck, what are you going to do? For my part, I have no choice but to cover  local and national elections until little pieces of my soul degrade into darkness.

Well...

I was thinking maybe the boys could fire up some doobies, roll on out to the herpes clinic, and then head up to Virginia for some of the finest pitbull fights in America.

Oh, wait, what? We don’t do that anymore? Jesus, what is this team coming too…

Dear Matt Ryan: I owe you a HUGE apology. I'm sorry. Love, iRonin.

I’m gonna run errands – catch up on sleep – and pray for an injury to Lito Sheppard (something that will keep him out one week)

Leto Sheppard?

What about Asante Samual? Shoot I hope they have a freak pinocle injury that keeps them both out for that week.

If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother.

Sleep

That’s what I will be doing more than likely. Even if it weren’t a bye week I rarely get to watch a game because of outdated and communist NFL/TV deals preventing me from watching games in the Jaguars home town.

As for the Falcons, I think they should practice and get better. Oooh, they should make stupid videos of Turner crushing over practice dummies and Abraham throwing huge tractor tires through walls or something. Nah, someone might get hurt doing that.

Or, you could do what most team sites do, fill the space with background stories on team cheerleaders….

With all the excitement of last week I almost feel like I need a bye week to recover from the late game heroics, although then it will get to Sunday and I will be missing being able to watch the squad. I guess one could maybe spend the bye week starting to build a shrine to Matty Ice.

It's called the red zone.

And the Birds need to figure out how to score in it.

They need to get touchdowns and stop settling for Elam kicks. The Chicago game would have never been so close if we weren’t relying on Elam. They also need to work on discipline. If it weren’t for that stupid penalty that negated a TD, we would’ve had that game in the bag despite the FG.

Call me a gloomy gus but until I see better red zone efficiency, I’m not going to get all glittery and golden eyed. I love my Falcons and I’ve weathered a lot these past fifteen years. I just want to see them dominate, something they’ve barely done in their forty some odd years. We’re on the right track. Let’s sew up the loose ends and take this franchise to the next level!

I agree

I don’t think you’re being a Gloomy Geoffrey, either. I’m just psyched that the team is 4-2 and will take the wins no matter how we get them; for the team to truly become great, though, they’ll have to start scoring more TDs. Maybe they can put up a couple against the Bye Week.

Keep perspective

I didn’t know that Sunday was only the third time since the 1970 merger that a team won, after losing the lead in the last 15 seconds. That may not be the definition of luck, but it’s close.

Hell, even if we had lost I would still be 98% as optimistic about the Falcons’ future as I am now. They’ve been playing their hearts out and improving every week, and that’s all I think anyone has a right to expect. Still, after the horror of last year, the team and the fans deserved a ‘game for the ages’ like that. Hooray!

Be happy, but let’s spend the bye week NOT buying in to the worshipful local newspaper clippings and getting overconfident. Coaches, keep up the fine work. Go Falcons!

Funny

how good teams get lucky and crappy teams don’t, isn’t it?

Bye Week

I think the team should rest and watch the Eagles game films. Even though I am a Philly fan, I really want the Falcons to win this game, they deserve it, but they have to go out and get it. The boys should get treatment for any injury and come out and play ball, no more scary games like Sunday, my heart can’t take it.

Jinx

I know an attempted jinx when I see one, we will not be fooled by this.

bye week

Hey Guys, great comments about our birds. Yeah I’m worried about our red zone woes too..but keep in mind, THESE WERE THE BEARS WE WERE PLAYING. They have one of the best defenses in the league! Just getting into the read zone a couple of times would have been it for most other teams. Same with the Panthers and Tampa Bay. That being said, We definitely need to find a way to score A TOUCHDOWN SOME OF THE TIME, or it definitely will come back to haunt us…Just like sunday. But hey we won!! Now i will have withdrawal for a week, but I think it is a perfect time to work on some things..

Atlanta Falcons Bye Week Comes At A Bad Time

It seems to me that some of the off time could be spent with the defensive secondary coach getting in some extra coaching for his guys. I also agree that if there are relatively minor injuries, get those fixed up and have everyone back ready to go full speed.
