Great Article on Vick

Perhaps the only article I have read during this entire fiasco that seems to take a deep breath and a step back in looking at the situation.  I really couldn't agree more that all the talk of "making an example" of Vick, or any defendant, is completely ridiculous and 100% against the tenants of the American Judicial system.  Definetly worth the read.

[editor's note, by Dave the Falconer] I actually hadn't caught this rare non-TMQ story by Easterbrook, and it's very thought provoking. Give it a read and let Hamburger know what you think about it.

Update [2007-8-20 19:41:50 by Dave the Falconer]: Seems a trifle less thought-provoking now, but I still think the basic point he was making is a generally applicable one. Unfortunately, his timing couldn't have been worse unless he had posted it today.

Michael Vick
I would not touch a fly but I don't think you should be sent to prison for killing dogs, especially if you are a millionaire.  I would put their money to work. When I attended San Jose State University back in the 70s, dogs disappeared because a certain transplanted people enjoyed eating them. Vick could be suspended and ordered to go to every gang infested area in the country to stop the killing.  He could be ordered to set up breakfast programs for school children.  He could be ordered to fund mobile health clinics to go into urban and rural areas to aid the poor.  Screening for HIV, cancer, and the list is ongoing.  It is a shame that nobody is talking about this but instead desire to throw this man in jail because throwing a black man in jail nowadays is like brushing your teeth.  Also, shame on Virginia Tech for not teaching this young man some principles during his four years at their prestigious institution.
